Girls and Torn: Don't Make My Mistakes!

So I just started playing Torn. And I feel obligated to share some quickly realized tips to all the new girl players out there and a few of the boys as well.

I started playing Torn a week ago! A real-life friend told me to post an ad in the newspaper. I knew nothing about the game... Whoah! 400 messages later I learned a few valuable lessons! Most of you introverts do not understand how to talk to a woman! Below I will show evidence of what has happened to me and the best ways to deescalate, avoid, and create a reputation as a person of character! While I may be new to Torn, I am not new to dealing with creepers!

So before I even posted my first ad in the newspaper, I got two completely unsolicited messages from random guys saying:

XXXX: Dirty babe, you see these shackles baby I'm a slave, ill let you whip me if I misbehave..."

AND

XXXX: hwy wanna marry?
XXXX: I can give u a lot of money and benefits if needed

That was less than 10 minutes after I created my account... I redacted the names in all of my examples because I do not want to make enemies...

Yet I persisted... So in my innocence, I uploaded a few pictures and posted an ad in the newspaper that said something along the lines of...

"Hi! A friend told me about this game, and gave me the money to post an ad here. I'm new and don't really know what's going on. So yeah."

OMFG... guys... the onslaught of crazy messages I received could have rivaled a 50 Shades of Grey novel.... Here are some of the worst ones...

XXXX: "Fck you are hot, I wana lick you all over, and over and again...
THB: I am a person, not an object. Stop being a fcken creeper. Goodbye. *Blocked*

AND

XXXX: "I would eat the farts right out of your arse"
THB: Creep, I am not an object. I am a real person... who you just majorly creeped out.
XXXX: Im sorry, I was just trying to be funny.
THB: Fcking Hilarious! Im dying over here *Blocked*

Those were just two examples of maybe 30... Then I got about 200 of these which I understand but still find creepy.

XXXX: hi..
XXXX: will u marry me..?
XXXX: why u no respond?
XXXX: fck you then, see you in 2 weeks.

AND

XXXX: Hey!
TBH: thats for horses cows and pigs you know...
XXXX: hahaha, that a pretty good one
XXXX: haven't heard that before
XXXX: wanna get married
XXXX: in the game ofc
THB: no...
XXXX: why not?
XXXX: I could help you out
XXXX: aren't you looking for someone to help you out?
XXXX: You suck, you should marry me
XXXX: Come on! I need you.
XXXX: What evs, you ugly as fck anyways. *Blocked*

AND

XXXX: Wana know what the difference between me and my couch?
THB: What?
XXXX: My couch pulls out. =D
THB: I am pulling out of this conversation... bye creep *Blocked*

Soooooo. With that being said... I guess I should start my guide...

Boys Guide:

Dear guys,

When you treat a woman like she is an object, and not a person, she will 99.999999% hate you immediately. That .0000001% of girls are nonexistent or fracking unicorns... Be nice, say hi. Don't ask for her personal information. If she wants to share, she will. If she asked to be left alone,LEAVE HER ALONE. Be funny, be original, be a damn gentleman. We all know what your after, but if you go about it the right way, you might just get lucky. Here are some examples of totally amazing ways to start a conversation.

XXXX: How many trees have you hugged today?
THB: OMG! So many!

AND

XXXX: I like your smile. Do you smile a lot?
XXXX:  do. I am a very happy person.

AND

XXXX: Hi, I saw your ad, how are you getting along?
TBH: Somany creeps =(. I wish I never posted that ad. Didn't know it was going to belike this.
XXXX: What can I do to help?

AND

And the best one!
XXXX: If you like tree's you're the one for me!
THB: I dol ike tree's but I don't know if im the one for you.
XXXX: A girl who likes tree's should always be happy.
THB: I think so too!
XXXX: Would a girl who likes trees like to marry me and make me happy?
THB: This girl does likes trees but is focusing on me, not getting married.
XXXX: No fear from me to the girl who likes trees. Can we stop rhyming now? It's getting difficult to keep this up...
THB: I bet you say that to all the girls ^.^
XXXX: Omg you got me!


Totally nice and original. Made me smile. These are the type of people I would like to be friends with.

Okay back to the guy's guide:

Gifts:

Showering a girl with gifts does not make her yours. If you are giving with a motive other than helping, and expect to get something in return.. you are kidding yourself. While some girls definitely ask for gifts, that still doesn't mean you should disrespect them. If you decide to give them gifts, make sure the expectations are communicated POLITELY before hand and not expected after. GIRLS ARE NOT PROPERTY!

Advice:

Omg... I got some of the worst possible advice when I started this game. If you do not know what you are talking about, stop trying to offer advice.It's confusing for new players. Link us a guide with details or ask us if we have any questions. If we do, and you don't know the answer 100%... find a guide and link it.. In fact.. just always link a guide... I had no idea whereto look when I started so this was super helpful. If your advice is "get married to me and ill help" shove off... KTHXBYE!

The Girls Guide:
If you are new and reading this, just remember to not engage. I made the mistake of engaging with a few really mean and creepy guys and all I got was threats and abuse. Luckily, I am resilient and found a few nice people right off the bat or I would of quit this game immediately. My advice to the ladies are what I like to call THE 4 Be's.

Be Educated:

Read the guides, educate yourself on the game, then decide your path for yourself! If you rely on others to give you all the information you need, you will not be very good at this game. READ!!!

Be Picky:

Girls! Be picky! Chatting on here can be a horrible experience. Be patient, wait for someone that catches your fancy before engaging.If you post an ad, you will get tons of messages. Wade through the thirsty creeps and find someone who is knowledgeable, polite, and expecting nothing back in return. I found a bunch like this and it has improved my gaming experience dramatically.Do not just join a faction because of a quick sales pitch. Use that education from Be Educated and choose what feels right for you.

Be Bold:

Getting married before level 15 isn't really necessary. The merits boost you a small bit, but until you need to fly somewhere, just focus on leveling. Do not let someone else dictate your gaming experience unless you trust them or want to. Being bold ties directly back into Be Educated.

Be Private:

Do not under any circumstance give out your personal information. All people need to find you IRL is your first name and the city you live in. Be vague and tell people you don't give out your personal information. Some of these creeps are GRADE A scum bags. Trust needs to be built up over time. Once again! Be Educated.

That's all for now. I will likely update this guide as I myself become more Educated in the ways of Torn. Hope this guide had some good content for all you players out there. Both boys and girls!

DISCLAIMER: Girls! Don't take this guide to mean that you can walk all over the men in this game. If you are as bad as they are, then you are no better! Treat people like you want to be treated and take an interest. If your just in it for the merit.. say that up front. Don't lead people on for your own gain. Be honest, polite, and have your guard up, but don't be rude unless you feel attacked or disrespected. It's a two way street.

Id like to be able to bring a Xanax with me on my plane. Or any item really. I can pick up 29 items at my destination, but i can bring one pill for the flights?

I would like someone way to unlock this ability by use of the suitcase. Once unlocked or earned, it allows for up to 4 items to be brought with. Most people will just bring one item. If that item isn't taken on the plane, then it should detract from the number of items that can be purchased at your destination. It should not be able to be taken while visiting another nation.

This ability would streamline peoples training regimes without them having to keep spreadsheets and google calendars to maximize efficiency. This upgrade would not detract from the game but would appeal to the more casual players.

If an OD happens while in the air, the plane turns around and heads back to TC, and your hospital time starts when you land. Maybe you lose all your items you bought because the pilot stole them while you were unconscious or some other penalty. Maybe increase ODs to 6 or 10% for plane drugs.

Make it fun but fair.

So after consideration, I believe this strategy might be effective. It would require maxed merits in investment and a full share of bank stock to be effective however. As a new player, I am not going to do those till Education, and others are maxed tho. 

I also do not like the idea of hovering close to losing happiness. A month by month approach would probably be effective.

Max upkeep for a 30 day period = 10,575,000.. You could invest 50 mil, after the month, pay the upkeep, use the profits and leftovers + the upkeep, and let it build that way. Would probably work better if you had 250mil to invest... or more. Its all just a numbers game I guess.
