If you are a new player (below 200 days old) you can join the Fresh Fishers Fisher’s Magic Pond Club. It’s a secret association founded by the Fisher King himself, long ago when fishing was still a thing and trouts smelled good.
As the temporary key-keeper of Fisher King’s Magic Private Islands, I will hand out 3 magic trouts/PI keys every week each week till the Fisher King himself will celebrate his birthday, otherwise known as Christmas.
The 3 magic trouts will be available for you to fish on the announced day and time (check the list below) by my Magic Pond bazaar (hint: you’ll need a... $50,000 “bait” to make sure only magic trouts will bite! As an apprentice fisher, you will then learn that magic fish bite only magic bait).
The lucky fresh fishers that have managed to fish the magic trouts will be sent a free ($1) PI lease offer to freely fish (and fly) for the entire lease duration. Please bear in mind that you’ll still have to pay the upkeep, or else you’ll end up on Duke’s fish grill or worse.
FAIR WARNING: this offer is available for new players only, or players that have been in game for less than 200 days. If you’re over 200 days/old and bought one of the trouts available, you would have only bought yourself a very expensive fish: no PI offer nor refund! ;p
tl; dr: Catcha “magic” trout for $50,000 from my bazaar to receive one of the 3x full-happy PI lease offers for free ($1). New players (under 200 days/old) only! Date and time list below.
Note: originally posted under Forum Main > Properties. Moved here, under Fun & Games, as suggested by Bt999.
The mini-game in itself was not as popular as I imagined it would so, instead of opening another final "fishing party", I'd rather thank and reward privately everyone that participated.
Fresh new trouts will be available every weekend Monday till Christmas 2020! :)
The $50,000 cost per trout is meant to make sure the buyer is not accidentally looking to buy an... ordinary trout, but they are actually interested in the PI lease connected with it. It is also meant to check the player has learnt to earn enough to afford the upkeep payment.
PI lease offers will be sent only to those that managed to purchase one of the three trouts available. Once the buyer's eligibility has been assessed, I'll send them the offer and post their name in the list below.

Due to a glitch in the properties rental system, all properties rented in these last days will became available 3 days later! For this reason, the personal islands that should have been available today, 21st November, will become available only on Monday, 23rd November. Therefore, even if this alters the overall rental planning, I'll have to move the date of our mini-game on Mondays from now on. MONDAY, November 23rd, 18:00 / 6PM (14-day PI lease)

And the final event of this mini-game
The mini-game in itself was not that popular as I imagined it would so, instead of opening another final "fishing party", I'd rather thank and reward privately everyone that participated.
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)](Screenshot courtesy of faction co-leader - my internet connection at home was down most of the day. Thanks bkoz!)[/background]
I have done that, years ago when it first started. The only change I noticed was in the percentage of "active players currently flagged for unusual or suspicious activity" I was also part of: from 1.5%, a few years ago, to 0.43% this time. During "Elimination", that percentage increased to about 0.57%, but then it decreased again.
However, with my limited knowledge, I thought that scripts act like some plug-ins that the system would tolerate better if "signed", and not mark as "suspicious" if unsigned, but it seems that it's not possible, or at least not when the game is accessed via a web browser, as opposed to a stand alone app, that would probably have an interface dedicated to third-party apps, much like Visual Studio Code has for extensions...
But wait!... Torn actually used to offer a stand alone app, but now only on Android phones, because Apple Store considered it just an "embedded web" app, if I well remember. Even so, as a stand alone app, they could implement their own... "Tampermonkey" addon and in that way they could have an immediate control over the scripts being loaded. Would that be a possibility? With all the AI required by the hunter bot system, a Torn proprietary addon for players' scripts could make detecting "suspicious" behaviour a trivial process!
Probably nobody needs a 1 meter long log with my "captcha" hurdle from the last 14 days, and beyond, but I assure you that it has become such an annoyance that it leads me to consider quitting the game, or maybe... this is exactly the intent behind the captcha "harassment" behaviour!...
To the best of my knowledge, the only "third party" tools I use are TornTools (a well known extension available from a long time on all major browsers) and Tampermonkey, also a known extension largely used for... customised scripts. While TornTools works as an already "packed up" extension, leaving only its settings to be "altered", but in a controlled way, maybe it's the last one that could be suspected for allowing "unwanted" behaviour.
I have limited computing knowledge background, but I would think that, while applications, and possibly extensions, can be "signed" in a way that can guarantee that their code has not been tampered with once approved and signed by its author, customised scripts are more exposed to modifications that, quite possibly, have not been approved by the authors / community / staff.
Question: is it possible to sign a script (meant to run in Tampermonkey or other similar extension), in a way that Torn bot hunter can recognize?
I am sick of having to deal with the captcha maniac because of it not being able to recognize approved extensions and/or scripts from “suspicious” ones! Therefore, I would like to know how doable this “signed scripts” option is, in order to suggest that Torn should be able to:
recognise approved/signed scripts and flag players ONLY when unapproved/unsigned scripts are detected, or otherwise
ban “in-browser” scripts entirely and allow only third-party apps that use the official API
The reason behind this suggestion is that I don’t find it fair, as a player that uses only community approved extensions and scripts, to have to endure captcha harassment because: “currently flagged for unusual or suspicious activity”! If the devs are unable to recognise community approved scripts from malicious ones, then where’s the point in having a dedicated “Tools & Userscripts” forum section?
TL,DR:
Provide a (hash) “signature” for your scripts that should protect players from being flagged for “suspicious” activity. Otherwise, if devs (bot hunter) cannot tell legit scripts from “alien”/malicious ones, suspend in browser scripts altogether and limit script authors to use the official API only.
But open to other options, for the right... reasons! ;)
Also, I'm interested in daily trains - willing to trade part of the daily wage for some extra train (state your price for trains, in this case, please!).
Finally, I should be available starting from next Monday, November 3rd.
In any case, there's literally nothing to do about it. Complaining will get you nowhere, and only time and manual play can get you out of the situation you're in.
Allow me to disagree. As players/users of this game/system we are co-responsible for our "user experience" here: the game - and I would add, the bot-hunter itself - is only as good as our feedback! (And the ability of the development team to respond and solve our reported issues.)
Whatever the state of this game is in now, it is also a result of the interaction between users and developers. The main ideas and drive behind everything we experience with this game belong, yes, to its founder, Chedburn, however, it was/is thanks to his willingness to evaluate and, eventually, accept feedback from his player base that the game evolved to this point. There is nothing in this game that cannot be reversed/changed/replaced should there be a good enough proof to support it.
(2) Dev team
Do everyone a favour and add a 6th point to your list: "none of the above".
While the development team may have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of their software, that same fact is also a limit and a bias. Give some room to whatever you may have left out of the "equation" and don't just trash/ignore your users' feedback on the assumption that they "don't know how your software works" or, worse, that they are evil-minded and out to get some kind of unfair advantage or profit (also check point 3) from your software/game. If they have encountered some issue, make a genuine effort to understand their point before simply discarding their objection. From my (limited) developer experience, I could notice that "resisting" a user's objection did not solve the problem - it only prolonged the frustration of both parties.
(3) The balance
After all, it's... "just a game".
The "reCAPTCHA trials" are quite annoying, time consuming and out of proportion considered the nature of this software. It feels like having to deal with a bank, or even a cryptocurrency generator platform where you could potentially make real big money, should you figure a way to "trick" the software. Most other games also have some kind of cheat protection, but they don't interrupt your game every 30 minutes for days on end. Should this protection become so invasive as to take away all the fun of the game, why would your users still stick around instead of moving on and look for other games to entertain with?
PS
Point 2: "extremely highly patterned usage"... You mean, something like the jail busting thing? Well, that one is indeed a bot-like activity. Everyone willing to pass for a bot should start there: hitting "Refresh" tens, hundreds, thousands of times turns you into a mindless bot, with the difference that using a bot doesn't destroy your keyboard, but how could one prove that?
When every keyboard/mouse activity can be reproduced by a bot (even the human errors/delays, eventually), how could one still prove their human nature using nothing else than a keyboard and a mouse?
... You canceled your monthly PayPal subscription.
Does that still look like a bot activity to you?...
Well, I hope you were just trying to be funny, as I also did with my quote, otherwise it would be sad to see such a reaction when a paying customer is reporting an issue.
A money sink would be paying for nothing in return, but as long as you get something (of value) in return then it's not a money sink anymore.
In your example, the money spent on the initial xanax lead to a revive, and that's a service that would currently cost $1,000,000 instead (you can still have a free revive, but that doesn't mean a revive is free).
EDIT:
Downvoted over the definition of money sink! o.O
As an ESL (English as a Second Language) player, I double check terms I don't quite understand or I have any doubts about. Before posting, I googled "money sink meaning". Here's the result:
Glossary Entry: Money Sink
A money sink is something that constantly takes money but gives little to nothing in return. If you're spending money on a money sink, you're throwing money down the drain.
Now, it could be argued that "sinking" money into something could be either understood as spending or wasting. In my post I interpreted "money sink" as wasting money and the definition I found seemed to support that. If you see it differently that still doesn't mean the quoted interpretation is wrong. Those that downvoted the post because of that reason could have... sunk their downvotes in something more worthy of that!
I'm looking for a spot in a Gents Strip Club - at least 7* (for the +10% Dexterity gym gains perk), for at least a month or slightly more if necessary.
No payment needed - I'd be happy to just have the chance to make a better use of a Dex training book.
Available from next Monday, November 4th.
Working stats: MAN/INT about 300k each; END about 260k; +10 EE.
We, at Dur-Tea Cops, have understood that, to serve this city properly, we have to beat the criminals to their own game, while still enjoying the... dur tea flavors that Torn has to offer.
That’s why we focus on Crimes and... Mishuns, because
-let’s be honest, for once-
We all know that Uncle Duke is the feed that hands us all!
Faction Perks:
Travel capacity IX (Increases maximum traveling capacity by 9)
Newbies friendly: players are paid $30,000 per respect point they bring, during their first 27 days, or anyway till we reach 62,000 faction respect points (hits that are part of a chain are paid x2!). This is mostly useful for new players that would go for recommended leveling targets while they level up, anyway.
Things you should do: (for your own sake, even if not interested in joining)
New players: complete the Introductory mission and learn how to search the Wiki and the Forums to find answers to basic questions:
You would be surprised to find that most of your questions have already been answered!
While you may be an easy target for, probably, 90% of Torn active population, you may still make yourself "invulnerable" to any kind of attack by hospitalizing yourself. Also, you will be able to fill your own blood bags and that is the best "med pack" you can can use when needed.
Unlock the Stock Ticker so you can "store" your cash and have it back whenever you want - the faction bank should be used only in rare situations and for a short time:
Camping the faction vault to give out $10-50k every few minutes is no fun. Also, not being able to get your cash when you need it is no fun either, so the best would be to find your own ways to store the cash. There is, indeed, the chance that the stock you’ve been invested your cash in will devaluate in time, not to mention the 1% tax when selling your shares, but those are all good reasons to get smart and make it work for you!
Focus on missions and don't attack active players, unless you're after bounties:
We don’t really care whom you’re going to get real close up and personal with – we just don’t want people to come and chew off our respect trezh-uh!
Things you are expected to do: (if you are interested in joining and... staying in this faction)
Log in when your OC is due, so that you can be included in the next round. Also, don't let your team wait for you if you plan to fly;
Work on increasing your NNB so that you can take part in more challenging and more rewarding OCs:
Blackmailing is nothing to mail home about, but if you don’t do your own daily crimes in a consistent manner, that’s all you’ll be able to do – tsk, tsk! Not cool!
Having to ask for and keep track of the NNB of each member is also a pain for those that must plan OC. YATA has many useful sections that may help you in many of your Torn activities – start making the most out of it!
Last, but not least, stay ACTIVE! All of the above imply some kind of constant activity. Logging in once a day may be OK for a company, but not for a faction. Also, ask questions; answer questions, if possible, and keep in touch with your faction fellows and leadership. We don't need members just to fill in the spots, but people that share and chase our same goals! __
If you managed to read it all till this point, you might be our kind of... dur teacop – add “mishun ready” to your application to seal the deal!
I was surprised I couldn't see any new (merit) icon on the side bar that the faction mates mentioned, so I checked the mobile version and there it was.
I went back to desktop version and resized window till the layout turned into one column, then the new icon appeared. Stretched back to full (two-column layout: one side bar/column & main central column) view and it was gone again. Turned off dark mode, still nothing.
I checked "wide" screen version on mobile by tilting the device, but it was still one column layout. I tried to enable the "Desktop site" mode (both Chrome mobile and Kiwi mobile browser, but got the endless browser check, so I couldn't confirm if it is indeed just a layout issue.
04:32:40 - 21/05/23 You joined an official race on Parkland with your Honda NSX
Current TCT: 7:39, about 3 hours later and my racing counter still looping between [EDIT: timer] fifty-something seconds and one minute fifty-something seconds to Start.
Also, can't leave race because "This race already started."
I am trying to figure out how and where I could level up my reviving skill (currently inexistent, i.e. 2) and get some merits meanwhile.
The first thing I'd need to mention: I'm an SLL player and, while "stacking" is no longer an option for me, I still hope I can make myself useful with my natural e when needed.
Other than that, I'd like to get into a faction that also has the 50% Bust chance perk, since that's also a goal I'm actively trying to reach.
Finally, I would like to state my intentions clear from the start: I'm looking to get the reviving merits first and foremost, so I'm willing to complete my first 1000 for free in return. If, while doing so, I get to appreciate this kind of activity, I would gladly stay for longer and go "pro"!
Let me know if there's anything else you would like to know.
Have a great day!
PS I have tried to send a personal message to -Yeti [96], but after a few Error 403, I decided I'd rather post my request here.
Mission completed, after a couple more tries when the 5th target (last out of five) all of a sudden gets a lucky crit and defeats me with one shot! Unlucky me!
However, the issue remains - the race conditions when - like in my case, the mission failed even if the order of events seemed in my favour. Reminds me of the times when - previous to the "landing grace" time, I noticed more than once that I would get attacked and mugged even before getting the landing event! Go figure! o.O
Also, I noticed the mission was reset: it shows 0/5 when I'm sure it was 1/5 right after leaving hospital.
If my attack didn't count afterwards, then is should have counted for the 5 kill streak especially since my finishing hit was recorded at 11:41:39, before being defeated. Then, if my finishing hit didn't count for my mission, why the attacker's finishing hit would have counted instead/taken precedence? Especially since the attacker's event was logged two seconds after my own completion event.
Personally, I will not repeat this mission! To how I read the last attack's log (the attack that should have counted as 5/5 for the mission), I did my part, even if for a split of a second before someone else attacked me. The precedence of my attack being completed over that attacker's (mugger) is also supported by the order in which the events were recorded on my log file: my attack being successful first, then the event of being attacked/mugged.
I was on my 5th target for a 5-kill streak Mission and pressing "Ok" (or whatever the last button reads) when the page froze and said something like "combat log doesn't exist". Then, cannot attack because in Hospital, when I actually got to defeat the target before the attacker completed their attack.
The mission counter says 1/5... It should have been 5/5 considering the log order, or if not, how would I get 1/5 while in hospital?
Here are the relevant log lines:
11:41:41 - 08/03/22 You used 25 energy attacking [name of target] and defeated them (chain #5) [view]
11:41:43 - 08/03/22 [name of attacker] mugged you for $736 sending you to hospital for 0h 33m [view]
