Preface
As the Director of Torn's possibly longest-running-under-a-single-director 10* Adult Novelties company, I recently wrote an explanation for someone on their forum post who was complaining about their Director cutting their AN Salary, in which I fully detailed the Ins-and-Outs of running an Adult Novelty Shop. A VERY experienced player said even they learned something from my post, so, figured I'd post it as a Guide for all the Existing and Aspiring Company Directors. You can find that post here if you want to see it for whatever reason, you can click this link, or just read my first message / reply under this post (A couple points in that post are no longer accurate. Primarily, employees used to get a temporary EE boost after being Trained that diminished over several days. It's no longer a thing.). Original Post about Running an AN
______________________________________________________________________________________
(12-Feb-2026: After discussing with other Directors from higher end companies, as well as some questioning in DM's, I'm now testing one possibly-no-longer-active system, as well as investigating two of the hidden mechanics. The guide will be updated if / as results change. For the moment, that's primarily if Training an Employee still gives them a temporary EE boost, and how the soft-lock for company stars works, whether it's age-based, or Total Company Lifetime Earnings. And if it's the latter, then whether it's tiered for each company type, or if it appears to be a flat amount regardless of company type. So, things are being updated as we learn more to put together the most comprehensive general company guide!)
(19-Feb-2026: After 8 days of testing, I can confirm the previous system of a temporary EE boost for an employee from being Trained is no longer a thing, sadly. I'll update the guide fully when I have the time to spare, but I am so BS busy with work right now, it's not even funny. It will get fixed though.)
(31-March-2026: Since there has been some confusion, I'll take a look at rewriting a section. But TLDR: The hidden "soft cap" that is either based on Company Age AND / OR Lifetime Company Earnings, is NOT the same as your Weekly Star Up requirements / factors, which multiple things go into. I'll expand upon that when I have the proper time to spare.)
(16-Jul-2026: The guide fixes mentioned above haven't been abandoned. I'm just mentally stretched thin at the moment. So one addition that's missing: I'll list *exactly* which Education courses improve your company performance. I did make a few minor edits / additions today though, most notably changing "Company Income and Productivity" point #1 from "Company Age" to "Company Age AND / OR Company Lifetime Earnings, and updating the description to match. I also updated "Employee Effectiveness / Working Stats" point #4 to remove out-of-date information to avoid confusion, even though I already had a disclaimer on it.)
Amagous' Guide to Running a Successful Company
(And The Ins-and-Outs of specifically Adult Novelties)
A lot more goes into running a successful company than most players realize who've never run one, and even many Directors who quickly become overwhelmed by or don't pay attention to the finer details. So as the Director of Torn's possibly longest-under-a-single-Director 10 Star AN, I figured I'd put a guide together to help others learn from both my mistakes and triumphs when it comes to running a Company, with a specific highlight on the deeper aspects of Adult Novelties Companies as well.
Also, the text box loves to turn two * at any length away into a massive line of Italic text, so for my own sanity, I'll just be typing "Star" instead of using an Asterisk.
General Overview of how Companies Work
Something most players don't realize is that just like the rest of Torn, running a Company is a PvP activity. It's not a simple "Reach X productivity, get another Star" affair. Your company's Weekly Production is compared against every other company's Weekly Production on Sunday at 1800 TCT, and you need to be at X% of the most productive company's Weekly Production to either lose, maintain, or gain a star.
There's only a certain percentage of companies that can be at any star level at any given time (I don't know the exact percentages for each. You don't need to either for all intent and purposes. I'm sure some of our beloved Math Nerds could figure it out if they want to go look at all the Companies in Job Listings and compile the data there).
This is why so many 10 Star Companies are secretive about their Stock Prices and Advertising Budget. So don't take it personally if you ask us and we tell you "Lol No", it's not to be rude, it's because it's a PvP activity and those of us at 10 Stars have put in a LOT of work figuring out those numbers to get there. Giving you those numbers is the equivalent of us stripping and pillowing in a serious Ranked War.
Beyond that, the general concept of running a Company's simple. Hire Employees, buy daily product / "Stock" (In most companies. Some company types such as a Detective Agency and Private Security Firm don't allow you to manually order Stock, the game does it itself.), set your Prices and let the game sell them. But there are a LOT of hidden details and finer points that actually go into that process.
Things You Need To Get Started as a Director
(And why they matter)
Many aspiring Directors think the only thing you need to get started as a Director is to start a Company, and while that's technically true, you are doing yourself a massive disservice if that's all you do (Speaking from experience). There are several factors you need to consider and SHOULD do before you get started.
- Purchase both Stock Blocks. This is the BIGGEST mistake most new Directors make, they consider the TC Media Productions and Tell Group Plc. Stock Blocks to be optional. As I mentioned above, running a Company is a PvP Affair. If you could go into a Ranked War with a basic Enfield, or an Enfield with Perks, you'd choose to go to war with the Enfield with Perks, right? Well those two Stock Blocks are your Ranked War Weapon Perks. If you don't have both of them, you're intentionally shooting yourself in the foot and going in at a massive disadvantage.
So if you can't afford both of those Stock Blocks, do NOT start a Company. Seriously, don't do it. You're just f**king yourself and any Employees you get since you'll struggle to gain Stars, reducing the amount of Trains you can offer your Employees and the amount of Salary / Job Points both you and them receive. You also screw yourself over since how many Working Stats you gain per day as a Director is directly tied to the Company Stars. At 1 Star, you receive 5 of all 3 Working Stats per day. 2 Stars, 10 of each. 3 Stars, 20. 4 Stars, 35. 5 Stars and higher, 50 of each.
- Buy an older Company instead of starting a new one if possible. A hidden mechanic I've observed over the years with Company management is that the longer a Company exists, the easier it is to reach certain Star levels. I still don't know the exact timing, but I've noticed this independently of players Working Stats and other Company changes. It appears to ease per Star level over time. My best-guess is that this was implemented to help prevent groups of players from starting brand new Companies, buying all the upgrades, and forcibly raising them to 10 Stars in 10 weeks with their massively-overqualified Working Stats, then turning around and selling them for significant profit.
With that in mind: It can be difficult to find someone willing to sell a low level Company, but even if you buy a deadbeat zero-upgrades zero-Stars zero-Employees company that's months or years old, it will give you a significant quickstart on your journey to 10 Stars. Find one of those Companies with an active Director (Since many companies exist with long-since-Quit directors) and offer them more than a brand new Company costs, informing them of such in your offer. 10% extra should be sufficient. EX: Offer them $110,000,000 for a Company that costs $100,000,000 to start a new one. Again, this is well-worth the extra investment in the long run.
Company Lifetime Earnings (The total amount the company has ever earned) also appears to play into this soft-cap on how quickly your company can Star Up. So even a small amount of Company Lifetime Earnings from an older company helps.
- Have all of the company-related Education first. This is another mistake I made firsthand when I started as a Director. After the fourth time in several months, I just grew impatient and frustrated with my Adult Novelties Company Directors going inactive, or selling out to other Directors who'd come in demanding disgustingly exploitive taxes. Was my decision understandable? Yes. Was it Wise? Absolutely not. As explained in point #1: Do you wanna go to War with basic gear, or Ranked War Gear Perks? Those Education Courses are part of your Ranked War Gear. They make a massive difference.
- Have enough cash to purchase all Company Upgrades. Once again, this is part of your Ranked War Gear. Go up to the search bar, change it from User to Wiki, and search "Company". Click on what's currently Point #12: "Companies", and it'll take you down to the list of Company types. Click on whichever one you're planning to own, then scroll down to Upgrades. Assume that the Company you're buying has zero Upgrades (Unless you're buying a 10 Star Company, then you can pretty much guarantee they have all the Upgrades already).
Add up the total cost for you to purchase all Max Level Upgrades for the Company you're going to buy, and then make sure you'll have that much cash available to purchase them all as soon as you start / purchase the Company. EX: For an Adult Novelties, that amount is $6,431,250; $3,675,000 for maximum Company Size / Employee slots; $918,750 for max level Staff Room Upgrades; And $1,837,500 for the maximum Stock inventory Warehouse.
"bUt WhAt If I dOn'T tHiNk I'lL nEeD a CeRtAiN uPgRaDe?" - Did I stutter? I didn't spend the time writing this guide to steer you wrong. You need EVERY upgrade at maximum level if you're going for 10 Stars. Trust the process.
With all of that said, there's also obviously the option to buy an already 9 or 10 Star Company, but I absolutely promise you that if you're just starting out as a brand new Director, unless you are under the active, intense mentorship of someone already running that same Company type, you're going to end up losing Stars to mistakes as you learn. So start with a low / no Star company if this is your first time being a Director. Again, there's a lot more than meets the eye to running a Company, and you need to get used to the rhythms to be effective, otherwise you're just going to be throwing perfectly good money into the wind.
Company Operating Costs
As a Company Director, there are 3 daily operating costs you need to pay attention to. There are exceptions to this, such as how 10 Star Adult Novelties don't pay a Salary due to the fact that the Directors are losing a s**t ton of Money on the Company and how lucrative their Job Points are compared to any other Company type in the same Working Stat requirement range, or how Detective Agencies and Private Security Firms don't have to purchase Stock, but for most Companies, you'll have to deal with all 3.
- Advertising Budget. This cost is universal, and arguably the most secretive part of the PvP aspect of Company management. Only Directors can see their Company's daily Advertising Budget, and with good reason. It also takes the longest to Optimize. (We'll touch on that farther down). Your Advertising Budget will have a HUGE impact on your Company's sales, which directly translates into Daily Production and your fight to achieve-and-maintain 10 Stars.
- Company Stock. These are the products your Company sells to undefined NPCs, simulating the population of Torn City coming in and buying your goods or hiring your services. Every day, you need to manually purchase and refill your Company Stock. At the sales required to have 10 Stars and with the maximum Warehouse Upgrade, most Companies can hold several days worth of Stock, so it shouldn't be the end of the world if you forget 1 day, but you need to do your absolute best to refill them daily. It keeps this simple and effective.
- Employee Salaries. Most Companies have to pay their Employees a Salary to be competitive with other Companies, especially since most Companies are highly profitable for the Director while offering less-than-valuable Job Point redeems in terms of sheer cash value. So, you'll most likely have to deal with Salaries as well. You can look at other companies hiring threads in the "Company Recruitment" forum section and see what they're offering to get an idea of what salaries your company type should offer. Look at multiple threads to get an average, don't just look at one single thread and go "Okay, I'll just copy them". Theirs could be super-high, or super-low, you never know. So, always work with averages / common numbers.
Company Income and Productivity
So how does the Company itself make money? You just let it sell Stock, right? Technically yes, HOWEVER, there's a lot more that goes into / affects that process than most Directors realize, some of which I touched on above. Here are the factors that actually affect your Company's daily sales (Which will expand into an entire tree of factors and explanations. Seriously, there's a LOT involved in this seemingly simple process.
- Company Age AND / OR Company Lifetime Earnings. This has been a debated topic as to whether it's Company Age or Company Lifetime Earnings (The total income it has ever earned) since it hasn't been confirmed by Staff either way. I personally think both factor in from what I've seen, although admittedly most players think it is purely Company Lifetime Earnings. So, it's up to you to decide your personal opinion.
As mentioned above, I believe the age of your company has a hidden but very-noticeable impact on your Company's performance up to a certain point from what I've seen (Since I've seen even low / no-production companies rapidly rank up once they were properly staffed. AKA, they were created purely as a safe place for someone to store their cash with no staff, and then after 5 or 6 months, they hired people and ran it as an actual company, and it rapidly launched up to 10 Stars, which counters the theory that it's only based on Company Lifetime Earnings). My educated guesstimate is that this debuff-under / bonus-up-to caps out at about 6 Months, but it could potentially be as long as 1 Year from what I've seen.
As for the Company Lifetime Earnings, that's not something I've observed with any reputable / notable attention. So I'd be pulling uneducated guesses out of my ass, so I won't feed you potential misinformation. I simply don't know.
- Stock Price. The actual cost of your Stock that you set is the main factor in your daily sales. If you set it too high or too low, your actual Net Profit (And by direct effect, your Daily Production) will be lower than Duke's sense of honour. (Borderline non-existent. But hey, he does send us out to beat up those guys who scammed a charity once in a while, so just like your Daily Production, it'll still TECHNICALLY exist.). So you have to try to the sweet spot / Optimized price for each stock item. I'll touch on that in more detail farther down.
- The Director's Education Courses and Stock Blocks. Like I said farther up, these are the equivalent of your Ranked War Gear versus basic no-perks gear. Ensure you have all of your Company-related Education Courses and both Stock Blocks, they make a MASSIVE difference to your Company's Daily Production.
- Employee Effectiveness / Working Stats. This seems like a no-brainer, however, even this system is far more than a simple "X% = Y Results." I'll touch on what I mean by that in more detail farther down. But in Caveman Speak for the illiterate half of Torn's userbase: "More number = better".
- Company Job Synergy. This is another hidden system of Company management. Adult Novelties for-sure, and seemingly all other Companies, have synergy between different position. Let me explain this with an actual example rather than fumbling with words.
For Adult Novelties specifically, the optimal Synergy is 3 Sexperts, 6 Sales Assistants, and 1 Store Manager. You'd think that you'd want 1 Store Manager and 9 Sexperts for maximum production since Sexpert's earn far more than Sales Assistants, however you'd be wrong (Again, ask me how I know.) 1 Sexpert requires 2 Sales Assistants for maximum productivity (You can see each Employee's actual production / sales if you have a Receptionist. This was part of the "Years of Experience" / testing to figure out.
In my earlier days before I fully understood this, I remember I swapped 1 Sales Assistant to be a Sexpert since he wanted a position that gave him Intelligence. He had similar % stats for both positions compared to the positions Recommended Stats so I swapped him, and our Daily Production IMMEDIATELY dropped from 2.2M to 1.9M. I swapped him back, and it immediately recovered. After some further testing and layouts, I figured out that Synergy for AN's. From what I've seen, other Companies also have this same Synergy system. If you want to fast-track figuring out what your Company type's optimal Job Synergy layout is, just go to the Job Listings page, open up that Company Type, and click on the top 20 Companies to see what their employee layout is like; Odds are, they're working with the optimal Job Synergy layout, so just copy them.
- Empty Job Slots. This seems like a no-brainer, HOWEVER, there is one point to note here that most people don't realize. In an AN, you have 10 Employees. If I lose one Employee (It's happened twice because the pricks left without notice) which is 10% of our work force, my Daily Production doesn't decrease 10%... It's dropped 25%. It went from 2.4M down to just over 1.8M, and from just over 2.3M to just under 1.8M, and they were by-far not even close to my best Employees. Simply having an unfilled job will disproportionately tank your Company's productivity, so at all costs, don't ever have an unfilled Job Position at 1800 TCT.
Employee Effectiveness / Working Stats
Several factors play into your Employee's Effectiveness (We'll call it EE from here on), several of which are either widely unknown or even completely misunderstood. So we'll touch on this in-detail. However just to note: The amount of actual increased productivity Employees produce when their stats are above the Recommended Stats for the position gives diminishing returns. AKA: An Employee having double the Recommended Stats of their Job Position is not going to equal double productivity. As a general rule of thumb, you ideally want Employees who have at least 2x the Recommended Working Stats for their position. Let's get to the actual Factors though.
- Working Stats. Obviously the largest factor: An Employee's Working Stats compared to the Recommended Stats for the Position in the Company's "Company Positions" tab (Which you can also find by going to the Wiki, "Company", Point #12 "Companies", and then clicking on the Company Type you want to see the Recommended Stats for each Position for). As said above (For you f**king skimmers who are only going bulletpoint to bulletpoint), an Employee's Working Stats above the Recommended Stats provides diminishing returns. AKA: An Employee having double the Recommended Stats of their Job Position is not going to equal double productivity.
Someone ran the math on it but I couldn't find their post, so I'll just give you an actual example. At the moment, I have an employee whose Primary Stat is 2.4x the Recommended Stats, and his Secondary is 3.4x, and his Working Stats effectiveness is +107. I have another Employee (A dear personal friend who's borderline quit) whose Primary Stat is 22.2x and his Secondary is 23.6x, and his Working Stats effectiveness is +137; Only 30 higher than the first Employee. So yea, like I said, diminishing returns. So for all intent and purposes, hiring someone with double the Recommended Stats for the position is golden.
- "Settled In". This is a bonus to their EE that increased by 1 for every 24 hours they're with the company, up to a maximum of +10 after 10 days. There's nothing special anyone needs to do with this one.
- Personal Merits in EE. This is one that a lot of Director's micro-manage / knit-pick about, and it's going to p**s a lot of them off to hear this but: If you're relying on EE Merits to keep your Company at 10 Stars, it's because you're f**king up as a Director. Until you get to the endgame hyper-competitive Companies like a Television Station or an Oil Rig, EE Merits make such a small difference that it shouldn't matter. If you need them to keep 10 Stars, then I can almost guarantee you that your Stock prices and Advertising Budget are just incredibly poorly optimized. I literally, genuinely tell any Job Applicants / Potential Employees when they mention it that their EE Merits are a waste of time and will better serve them in other Merits.
BUT. From the technical point of view: Employees can assign Merits to EE, gaining 1 EE per level up to a maximum of +10. (But seriously, if you're demanding Employees have EE merits and you're not a TV Station, Oil Rig, or Mining Corporation... "Git gud". It's literally a skill issue on your part that they need EE to compensate for your lack of Stock price / Advertising Budget Optimization.)
- "Director Education" / Training. (EDIT 19-Feb-2026: This one has been tested and changed. I need to properly rewrite it, but TLDR; There's an Education Course that gives employees a passive +12 EE Bonus. There used to be a system where freshly Training an employee gave them an EE boost, but after 8 days of testing, I can confirm it's no longer a thing. So I've deleted the old information of the temporary EE boost that was in this point, and just need to properly rewrite it with that Education Course / Passive EE bonus.)
- Drug Addiction Debuff. This one's pretty straight forward. As Employee's gain Drug Addiction, they'll start getting a debuff to their EE. This is another one where I'm going to p**s off a lot of existing Directors by being brutally honest with you: If you are constantly knit-picking your Employee's Drug Addiction at super-low levels or requiring them to rehab daily... Once again, that is entirely a skill issue on your part because you need to Optimize your Stock prices and Advertising Budget. For most companies with Employees with double the Recommended Stats, the full +10 Settled In bonus, and if you're freely and equally distributing your trains, you shouldn't have an issue with Drug Addiction debuffs unless you have 3+ people rocking a -10 or higher debuff at the same time. Typically, you should be able to just watch your Company's Daily Production, as well as take a quick peak at your EE every couple of days, and as long as you're at what you figure out is a "safe" level of Productivity and no one's under 115 EE, you shouldn't have to micro-manage.
But if you see your Daily Production is falling under it's normal amount (For my AN, that's anything under 2.3M a day. Usually we average 2.3 - 2.5M a day, with plenty of room for Inactivity and Drug Debuffs), then take a look at your EE for each Employee. If you see multiple people with a -10 or higher drug debuff, then just send a Company Newsletter asking people to Rehab ASAP. Most people are more-than happy to. Or if it's one person rocking -20 or worse, then send them a personal mail. Again, MAIL. It's easy to miss Chat messages, so save yourself the potential issue of "I sent you a message!" - "I didn't see it."
- Inactivity Debuff. This is by-far the most misunderstood EE factor. The Inactivity Debuff has a not-proportional impact on your Daily Production. It damages your Daily Productivity significantly more than the EE debuff suggests it will (You'll easily notice this when you deal with it).
Speaking from regular experience with 2 of my employees being borderline-inactive, so we regularly deal with Inactivity Debuffs: Your Employee can have an Inactivity Debuff that works out to roughly 20% of their EE, meanwhile your entire Company's Daily Production will drop about 5% at that point. When the Inactivity Debuff is about 35% of their stats, your Daily Production will drop about 10%.
Right now, my company is averaging about 2.5M a day with regular but not excessive Drug Addictions. However, I can tell when one of those 2 players hasn't been on in 3 days+: Our Daily Production will be around 2.28 to 2.32M. That's roughly a 7% debuff to the entire Company's production for what is seemingly just a -30 EE debuff. So yea, Inactivity, something you absolutely need to keep a hawk eye on. Drug Addiction debuffs are a minor issue, but Inactivity can sink your entire company if you're not careful. So even if it's your best friend IRL, if they haven't been on in 7 days, IMMEDIATELY kick them and find even a Day 1 zero-Stat newb to take their place, you'll still be massively better off.
Stock price and Advertising Budget Optimization
IT SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING, BUT THIS NEXT PORTION ASSUMES YOU HAVE ALL EDUCATION COURSES AND BOTH STOCK-BLOCKS
So I've mentioned Stock price and Advertising Budget Optimization several times and emphasized the importance of it; What exactly does that mean, and how exactly do you achieve it? Every Stock item has an Optimized price / exact Price where you will get the highest Profit out of it. That Profit is the total amount of the Item sold x Sold Cost, so it's finding the highest price where you can still get decent sales before it starts to nose-dive. As far as I've been able to tell through extensive testing, Stock price is not a PvP aspect / your prices aren't compared to other Companies, it's a static hidden value that you need to test to find, which is why it's such a closely guarded secret what Company's Stock prices are.
However, your Advertising Budget is almost entirely PvP, so that price can change constantly. I'll cover how to find both Optimizations down below.
One thing to keep in mind before that though is that your daily sales will always vary from day-to-day based on 3 things:
- EE. Obviously as different employees gain or lose Addiction Debuffs, this is going to slightly alter your Daily Production.
- RNG. All other things being equal, there still appears to be a small amount of RNG to your sales. As best as I can tell, my educated guesstimate is that this RNG is up to 2%. So small, but noticeable if you really pay attention.
- The constant changes in other Companies performance, because again, there is that PvP aspect. As they perform better or worse, it ripples throughout the Company hierarchy and will affect your own Company's performance.
But after that, it all comes down to Optimization.
Stock Price Optimization
This is easily the most tedious / pain in the a** part of running a company, because you have to be so meticulous with it. Before you can even remotely start to optimize your Stock prices, you need to have all of your Job Positions filled, and make sure everyone has the +10 Settled In EE bonus / that everyone has been working for the company for at least 10 days so that you have a stable baseline to work with. Otherwise you're going to get false data as Sales will slowly increase as they gain their EE bonus. Once you have that though, you can start working on Optimizing your prices. Here's the process and what you need to keep in mind when doing this:
- First off, figure out what the average "cut off" for 10 Stars is in your Company type. Go to the Job Listings page (Found at the top of your Company page if you're already a Director), open your Company type, and then go to roughly page 5, whichever page it is where it starts showing 9 Star Companies. Then cross-reference how many 9 Star Companies have more income than the lowest 10 Star Companies. You don't need to crack out a calculator for this one, you can eyeball it such as "Okay, so about 20 companies are going to swap." The bottom 10 Star Company ABOVE that cut off is basically your "cut off" point, the amount of Weekly Production you need to hit and maintain 10 Stars.
- Focus on optimizing your Stock prices first. This is a LOT of trial and error, and requires you to do them one item at a time, one week at a time. Anything less than charting it across a full week is going to be unreliable data. This is the part that takes the longest, but without it, trying to optimize your Advertising Budget is going to be pointless. I recommend setting all your Stock prices at 15% above RRSP before proceeding with the next part.
- You can start with large adjustments (Working in percentages, not just dollars.), such as increasing a Stocks price by 10%, then comparing the amount of Net Profit for it across the week versus the previous week when you had a different price. Ultimately, you're looking for the highest amount of Net Profit. This one, you do need to crack out a calculator for. Every day, record your Stock Sold x Price Sold, - your Stock Sold x Restock Cost. (So if you sold 10,000 Condoms for $10 each, that's $100,000. But if they cost you $6 each, that's $60,000. So $100,000 - $60,000 gives you your Net Profit of $40,000. That's the number you're trying to maximize.)
Then after a week, assuming you haven't had any major company changes during that time, change the price. If you're just starting from the 15% above RRSP point, I'd recommend increasing your price by 5% for your first adjustment. The easiest sign to notice that you're getting close is if you hit a price point where the AMOUNT of sales nose-dives / crashes. Your Optimized stock price will likely be give-or-take about 3 to 5% BEFORE that cliff drops.
Also, what I found was that trying to do multiple products at a time had wildly varying results / changing one product can affect others prices. (So the back-and-forth between optimizing products is the LONGEST part). That's why I'm emphasizing that when you get down to fine-tuning your prices, do them ONE AT A TIME.
- Once you have your Stock prices as optimized as you can get (Or as far as your patience can endure), then you're on the proper playing field to optimize your advertising budget.
Advertising Budget Optimization
Your goal for an "Optimized Advertising Budget" is where ever your company is producing roughly 10 to 15% more Weekly Production than the 10 Star cut off. This gives you a healthy buffer against changes in the 10 Star cut off as other Companies change, without bloating your costs since with your Advertising Budget you get vastly diminishing returns.
For example, I could double my current Advertising Budget, and I'd see about a 10 to 15% increase in Daily Production. That's why making sure your Stock prices are Optimized first is so important; Otherwise you could be burning hundreds of thousands (or even millions) a day pointlessly.
You want to handle this similarly to how you optimize your Stock prices (Again, do NOT do this at the same time that you're optimizing a Stocks price, or again, you'll get unreliable data), although you can more-so eyeball this. The biggest thing again is taking the data one week at a time, and aiming for that 10 to 15% Weekly Production above the 10 Star cut off, so that you're not going to lose 10 Stars if there's a sporadic increase in other companies performance (It happens from time to time, this isn't a hypothetical) while also not burning excessive amounts of money on tiny extra gains.
Unlike Stock price Optimizing, you can focus on dollars with this one rather than percentages. AKA "I'm gonna try adding $400,000 / day to my advertising budget this week". Start with large changes, then just feel it out as you make smaller changes to hone in on that 10 - 15% sweet spot. Stock price Optimization is hard logical math, where as Advertising Budget Optimization is much more feelings-based / fluid.
A PvP Tip I really shouldn't tell you, but c'est la vie, I'm a nice guy
Always add $1 to your advertising budget. Like instead of mine being $X,XXX,000 for my AN, it's $X,XXX,001. I don't know if this actually makes a difference or not depending on how they coded the math for comparing Advertising Budgets, but theoretically, it puts your Advertising Budget "Above" someone else who did the flat 000, and every advantage matters. So at-worst, it changes nothing. At-best, it gives you an extra advantage.
If you read ALL of that, then congratulations, you are now more-competent than over 90% of Torn's existing Directors. Again, I know a lot of that is incredibly tedious, but just like everything else in Torn, they put a lot of thought and detail into it, and "lucky" for us, they even hid some of those details like I covered.
Final Words
Again, I can not stress this enough: Do NOT start / buy a Company if you don't have ALL of the relevant Education Courses AND both Stock Blocks. It doesn't matter how kind or benevolent of a Company Director you intend to be, you're ultimately doing a disservice to both yourself and your Employees if you don't have those to give yourself the best competitive edge.
If you found this guide that took me several years of experience, and 4 hours to write and edit helpful, I would certainly appreciate being added as a Friend, although obviously that's not mandatory!
