my wife is a traditional wife. a stay at home mom who does 90% of the cooking/cleaning. She desires to fulfill the role that we believe God gave women in the Holy Bible.
Not subservient in the sense that she obeys every command without question. It's more like, if a decision has to be made, we will talk about it together. She will give her input and I will give mine. But ultimately the decision is up to me.
Of course I understand the atmosphere around the whole submissive wife debate, but it's always only looked at from one angle. Understandably so, there was a time when Christian men would abuse the piece of scripture that instructs women to obey their husband's. This led to abuse, neglect and gave the men a sense of superiority. This is however, the incorrect way to interpret this passage from the Bible.
The text that is most commonly used is "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord." Colossians 3:18. Ungodly men will end the text there but that would be taking it out of context because the very next verse says "Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter against them." This shows the two foldness of marriage. Else where it says "Men, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her." The responsibility of being the leader in the home is not so much a privilege as it is a heavy responsibility that comes with heavy expectations. And men who abused this responsibility will be punished for it. One way my pastor explained it to me is that as I'm excersing my authority in the household, God is watching over my shoulder to see how I excersice that authority and I will be judged on whether or not I was selfless in my leadership.
