[250 R+] Chain Alarms for Chain Watching · · 375 likes

Can we get chain alarms as an official feature to make chain watching easier for everyone?

It would be nice if it was on the side bar under the chain timer so it persists on every page. I know scripts exist, but this shouldn't need scripts.

Edit: A chain alarm will make a sound if the chain timer gets below some settable threshold.

I don't understand why this is down rated so much. I don't understand how this is a scam. The OP seems to be upfront and honest with the terms and conditions; a scam is a dishonest scheme. I mean, taxing employees AND selling trains is a little much, but if you don't like the conditions, just don't apply. I think we've all dealt with companies who aren't as honest as this. Ones where the directors realize their company doesn't make enough money to justify running it after they're fully staffed. They then later to decide to sell trains or tax people, or just sell the company to the system with no warning. At least here the director is arming their potential employees with what they need to know, the decision to join is on them.

I know this is on the 9th page and no one is going read, but thought I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Minority Rule - $50mil Prize - Phase: End · · 13 likes

Welcome to Minority Rule!

Current Question:

About Minority Rule:
Minority Rule is a game featured in a manga called "Liar Game." My brother, The_Reputed, hosted a Minority Rule game a good while back ago. After convincing me to read Liar Game I've decided to host one. This one will be more closely related to the original manga version than his. The only rule I can think of that I've changed is that there is NO BUY IN. I have a little extra money and nothing to spend it on, so I'm giving it away to the winner(s).

Details:
Here is how the game works. At the beginning of each round, a player will be selected at random to ask a "Yes-or-No" question. After the question is posted, each player will PM the host your answer. Answers in this discussion will not count. At the end of the round, the votes will be tallied up. The players who voted for the most popular option will be eliminated. Rounds will continue until there are less than (and not equal to) 3 players left. This is because if there are only 2 players left, there it will either stalemate or both players will be eliminated. If you PM two different votes to the host on any single question, you will instantly be eliminated. Likewise, you will be eliminated if you do not submit an answer during any round.
This will require at least 20 people playing -So get your friends to play.- and the game will start on New Years Day. Either post here or PM me that you with to participate and you will be added to the Current Players list. There is no buy in and up to a $50mil prize, so why not?

Rules:
1) You MUST PM your answer to the host for each question.
2) If all players vote the same, all players will be eliminated.
3) Each round will be 24-hours after the question is posted.
4) If each option gets the same amount of votes, no one is eliminated.
5) If you vote more than once or do not vote, you will be eliminated.
6) If you are selected to ask a question, and don't post one within 24-hours, someone else will be selected to ask the question.
7) Those who vote with the majority will be eliminated.
8) Votes posted in the forum do not count for anything ( This means if you post in the forum "No," and PM the host "Yes," the your answer will be tallied as "Yes." You DO NOT get disqualified for ANYTHING in the discussion ).
9) You must ask a question that can be answered definitely with a "Yes," or "No."
10) Those who are selected to ask the question still have to PM the host their answer.

Prize(s):
Players Left - Their Reward
2 - $25mil each
1 - $50mil
0 - $0

Example:
Round 1: 20 Players. Player 17 selected to ask a question.
At the beginning of the first round: Player 17 asks the question: "Are you a woman?"
13 Players answer "Yes," and 7 answer "No."
At the end of the round: The 13 players who answered "Yes" will be eliminated.
Round 2: 7 Players. Player 1 is selected to ask a question.
At the beginning of the second round: Player 1 asks "Is your favorite color Blue?
2 Players answer "Yes," and 5 answer "No."
The two players that answered "Yes" each will receive $25 mil.

Hints:
You do not have to answer the question truthfully. The goal is to answer with the most unpopular answer. Communication, Colluding, and Lying are all encouraged.

For those who are unfamiliar to these games, I have listed players with hyperlinks to their profiles for your convenience. The game doesn't start until New Years Day so all of you have plenty of time to make "friends" for this game. It smells like some players have already started colluding. I would suggest trying to form an alliance with some if not all the players that have opted out of winnings, you wont have to split the cash with anyone that way. Be careful though, they are experienced players from what I've heard. Know that they may always be looking for an opportunity to stab you in the back.

I have a suggestion at 250 R+s for a suggestion regarding adding chain alarms as an official feature in Torn.

Definition

A chain alarm will notify the user if the chain timer gets below a settable threshold (120 seconds). Although this is the kind of thing that is easily scriptable, it would benefit new players in the understanding of chaining and chain watching. Also, it will benefit every player by not having to trust third party plugins/scripts. Chaining is a fundamental part of Torn and being able to time hits is an essential part of that. This is a quality of life change that will benefit virtually every faction member in the game.

https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=4&t=16434735&b=0&a=0&start=0

Implementation recommendations

Here are the details envisioned for this feature, but I leave the exact design to the discretion of the development team.
- Add the interface below the chain indicator on the side bar (making it available on every page)

- In the interface, have a toggle switch to turn the feature on or off (default is off)

- In the interface, have a text-box or other method for entering a time when the alarm goes off (120 seconds before chain breaks)

- When the time is reached and the alarm is active:

  1. A sound is played (which can be turned off via 'General' or 'Attack' user settings)

  2. The title of page flashes a message (e.g. "Make a hit" or "Chain at {time}") - something similar to "Your turn" in poker

  3. The chain time indication turns red (overriding the current default setting)

I understand there is a lot of work that goes into making a feature like this. I hope you can understand the widespread value this will bring to players (especially new players) and deem it worthy of the development time.

Thank you for the consideration.

[Guests Welcome] Most money RW Payouts $$$ GnM · · 13 likes

Come guest with Goodnight Moon as we enlist for three back-to-back Ranked Wars starting Tuesday, June 28th.

If you're looking to war, get paid, and leave feel welcome to do so! Or stay as long as you like.

What we're looking for:
Players who can perform in a ranked war. (Arrive at the rw stacked)
We want players with less than 7b total battle stats.
Working in an energy-producing company is a bonus.

How you get paid:
The short answer is "the better you perform, the higher your pay rate is."

The longer math-focused answer:
Your total hits = war hits + 0.8*war assists + 0.5*non-war hits.
Everyone's total hits get normalized so the top performer = 1 and no hits = 0.
This normalized value is non-linearly scaled to adjust for effort (favors the top performers). See this graph:
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ocrpj7afjh
The scaled normalized value is your weight of the payout total you will receive.
The payout pool is 87.5% of the value of the caches earned (12.5% is used to cover war costs).
(67.5% of the payout pool goes to hit-based performance as above and 32.5% goes to respect-based performance which is scaled similarly)
Our top performer made $685m last war, and our top chainer (with no war hits) made $205m.

When to join:
Make sure you apply before enlistment (12:00 pm TCT) on Tuesday, June 28th.
Feel free to join now!

Items durability ·

This is just a complaint dressed up as a suggestion. Your "suggestion" would do better if you wrote something like,

Item durability: when an item loses all durability, the stats of the item {armor, coverage, damage, accuracy, and stealth} are all reduced by 15%. Items lose 10% durability per attack (can be reduced to 5% with merits). Players can repair items at Big Al's for a fee of 50% of the item value for non-ranked war items and $2m flat fee for ranked war items. The fee is high to motivate users to buy more weapons to get items with a quality rating worth repairing. This system will add an economic sink which will help combat inflation.

Here are some thoughts to consider which may help you improve your suggestion:

  • Not all items are permanent. How does money lose value because of the items that are permanent?
  • How does money gain value from the items that are consumable?
  • Why shouldn't a game that revolves around money have permanent items?
  • How does selling losses mean the game is broken?
  • How is the amount you can make per day selling losses relevant to item durability?
  • Money buys consumables, equipment, companies, factions, bounties, etc... In which circumstances does money not matter?
  • How does the durability system your suggestion work and how does that improve gameplay?

The only piece of my combat equipment your networth can buy is my temporary item (which is single use).

Yes, but I almost exclusively play on desktop. Also, Torn PDA is not an official part of Torn and requires the trust of a third party.

Jack "Skull" Kosminski
Mission Themes: Attacking (Leave) / Using spooky equipment

Rewards: Halloween basket Treats

Description: Jack "Skull" Kosminski (inspired by Jack The Ripper and Jack Skellington) loves the macabre. He wants to see you scare your foes before leaving them for dead and doesn't mind dropping a few treats in your halloween basket for your efforts.

Justification: Halloween treats are a currency that can be used at anytime throughout the year, but as of now can only be obtained during Halloweek. This mission giver will allow players to build up a small collection of treats outside of Halloween to keep their baskets in use all year long.

Big Al
Mission Themes: Use Specific Weapons / Finishing hits / Group Attacks

Rewards: Special Ammo / Bunker Bucks

Description: You know him. You love him! Big Al wants you to test out specific guns and see spectecular fights. He won't offer you a discount at his shop to buy the guns he wants you to use, but he'll reward you with special ammo or one of his Bunker Bucks for entertaining him.

Justification: Having players accumulate bucker bucks will drive motivation for more players to buy access to the bunker. It will also allow players who are not in a faction that does ranked wars to earn the ability to produce caches.

Milton Sherrill
Mission Themes: Parcel Sending / Mail Sending / Attacking Several People

Rewards: Parcels (with random items; potentially with SEDs or Horse's Heads) / New wrapping papers

Description: Milton (inspired by Patrick Sherrill) wants to handle the post. Most of the time he just likes when people send each other packages and nice mail. But other times, he'll be set off by seemingly nothing and just want you to kill a dozen people. Do his bidding and he'll give you some of the unclaimed packages or wrapping paper hiding in the back of the post office.

Justification: We need new wrapping paper and introducing it through the mission system is a nice way of making it more fun. More choice in expressing ourselves with gift giving isn't necessarily what Torn is about, but based on the numerous suggestion relating to the topic, it would bring joy to a lot players.

  5. Where's the Valentine's Day Wrapping Paper? by BraveKath
  6. More stuff for weddings by gatherer818
  7. Wedding wrapping paper by MacQuinn

Mr. Wong
Mission Themes: Gambling / Mugging / Hospitalizations

Rewards: Casino Tokens

Description: Mr. Wong is the casino boss and you'll know him if you've ever tried to a job there. The relationship is simple. You want more casino tokens and he wants some debts collected. He may also ask you to try some of the games at his casino to ensure they can't be cheated.

Justification: Let the gamblers gamble a little more.

Amanda Ravenscroft
https://www.torn.com/profiles.php?XID=7

Mission Themes: Hospitalization / Bounties / Junk Item Gathering

Rewards: Reduce education time

Description: The mysterious professor Amanda Ravenscroft (Torn XID 7) has been laying low the last several years. She has a plan that she's been acting out from the shadows, but now she needs your help. Assist her with incapacitating select individuals or collecting strange items and she'll tutor you in whichever course you're currently enlisted in.

Justification:  Amanda is a pre-existing Torn NPC intended to be a mission giver. This opportunity gives her a purpose that fits the theme of being a professor.

Brad Norton
Mission Themes: Anything

Rewards: Reduce bank investment time / Job points / special items / new items (Does not give mission credits)

Description: Brad Norton is a politician through and through, and the last mission giver to unlock. He owns and runs the exclusive gym, Fight Club. His needs are wide to achieve his aspirations and he recruits people to aid his goals. He may ask you to defeat someone, commit a crime, revive someone, break someone out of jail, or anything else. It's never obvious why he needs these things done nor does it need to be. If you make yourself known then he will recruit you to do some difficult missions. If you succeed, he will reward you handsomely. Earning his trust will take a long time. But if you build up a good rapport with him, he might just invite you to his gym.

Justification: There are a lot of mission givers here and the players who work through the ranks and get to the end of the mission system deserve to be rewarded. The missions are challenging, but completion will rewards that only could be granted by a powerful character like Brad Norton. Leaving the mission types and rewards open gives the developers the flexibility of experimenting with features using this NPC. He doesn't give mission credits because he believes they can be traced back to him. He likes to maintain plausible deniability.

I made new Mission Givers · · 9 likes

We have 6 locked mission givers. Considering how long they've been locked, I assume the original idea is scrapped and I present a method for filling in the void.

The general idea:

Thematic mission givers who give special rewards

What are the "special rewards"?

Duke tends to give money. The other mission givers will have rewards of items and other currencies such as: Bunker bucks, Halloween basket treats, casino tokens, reduce education time, reduce bank time, job points, etc.. It is assumed that all mission givers will give mission credits (with one exception).

That's the idea and what you will be rating if you decide to vote on this thread.

Examples

To make this more concrete, I provide 6 examples in the post below. The 6 examples are provided in a separate post because they are not the focus of this suggestion. I am not saying these mission givers should fill the slots exactly as they appear. They are simply an example of what could be done with the mission system when moving in this direction.
