The tears in P&L over the next 24 hours are going to be exquisite. I can’t wait to see the meltdowns from H4D35, ElHeffe, Jailtrump, Capgros, and Bhappychap.

If you made the pale comment in a scornful, haughty, judgmental, and accusatory way though, it might rub people the wrong way when they got the sense that you were trying to establish your own superiority by talking down. They might predictably respond by noting some hypocrisy etc. Additionally, pale isn’t a behavior, so it’s not exactly apples to apples, but I think we are saying similar things. Frequently life isn’t about the letter you send, but the envelope you send it in. 

I got rid of almost all my cookbooks. There are so many great recipe sites on the internet now, that it just doesn’t make sense to clog up a shelf. When you use the internet recipes you get to see people’s comments, tweaks that they made, and you can search for variants of the recipe specific to a particular ingredient or idea. If I try a particular recipe and really like it, I’ll throw it in my kitchen binder. 

The only non-family books I kept are The Bread Bible (Beranbaum) and The King Arthur Bakers Companion. They both have a lot of good theory crafting and troubleshooting knowledge in them. I don’t often use them for the recipes. 

I photograph (cell phone, not professional) most of what I do in the kitchen too, often at each major stage. It lets me flip back and remind myself what worked well and what didn’t. Most of it is in the “works well” category, because I research my recipes pretty thoroughly. Frosting cakes is always in the “looks like crap” category. 

Excellent on the inside, amateur hour at best on the outside. 

If you’re looking for salads people appreciate, this is a great time of year for caprese salad, which is trivial to make. Hawaiian bbq pasta salad is outstanding. This is also a good time for beet salad with feta cheese.

It’s funny you mention that. Yesterday I harvested tomatoes etc from the garden and made a batch of pasta sauce for the freezer. It was the third batch in a week. This batch was ~3.75L. 

Today I used the leftover bit that didn’t fit in freezer bags to make a bit of baked manicotti happen. Just got done eating it.

I think if a lot of people looked honestly at their post history (myself included) they would find that they rarely engage in thoughtful discourse or actual debate. For the most part everyone uses it as a broadcast medium. Frankly, I don’t even see that many different viewpoints. The Europeans are largely here to excoriate everything about the Americans. The Muslims are here to decry Israel’s existence and to engage in sneaky Islamic superiority campaigns. The (non-Muslim) Americans.. I don’t even know how to generalize what we’re up to. We might just be here to bicker. 🤣 The Asians wisely opt out. Lastly there are the “better to burn out than fade away” absolute troublemakers like KellyO, magical_toaster, mickey_cronin, etc. They don’t generally last too long.  I don’t think anyone has ever convinced another P&L poster about anything.

Ellipses btw are not a sentence type. They are a punctuation type utilizing three periods. Both of your alleged “ellipses” are no more than malformed sentences. If you wanted “cause” to be used in his informal form, it wouldn’t be in a separate sentence. 

You’re right. I did use colonial mentality, which is still the mindset of believing the colonizer to be superior to the colonized. That mentality could exist for either party. In your case, it is believing your nation to be superior to those you colonize and try to subjugate.

Amusingly you are having a conversation in English, and trying to justify your obvious misspelling claiming it is “the German way” even though it isn’t a German conversation. When that didn’t work, you wanted to try to dodge into French word etymology claiming that your comfort defines proper spelling.  You can be certain of whatever you want, but that is you being ignorant of facts and once again attempting to narcissistically presenting your opinion as fact. You will be happy to know that “Which is again very funny” is not a standalone sentence. It doesn’t even contain a noun or a subject. 

You’ll probably want to go back and look at the whole colonizer/colonized discussion. You’ll find that I said neither in that concept. The thing that you tried to go after was “colonial mindset” which specifies neither colonizer or colonized, but instead specifies only the idea that the colonizer is superior to the colonized.

I’m aware of lederhosen wearing. Because you are not very culturally aware (but think you are), you probably don’t know that the US is a very culturally diverse place, with an almost entirely immigrant based population. One of those populations is German, which includes a good bit of my ancestry. I even have relatives in Germany, including my Lufthansa pilot uncle Dieter who brought a little pair of lederhosen when I was born. 

Perhaps you would be wise to take a break, consider your many deficiencies, whether your narcissism allows you to see them or not, and see if you can stop trying to be the next leader of German nationalism.

One of us has worked in the gaming industry, knows how gaming commissions work, and has a good idea about when bets become binding. I think I know which of us it is. 

As far as taking the L, I’d have no issue with canceling the bets prior to the event and the win/loss outcome. I could even be on board with intervening at the time of payout. Doing it retroactively a day later after people have done things with the funds is a shady and ignorant choice.
