I started playing Torn when I saw an ad in a social media platform and tried the game. I immediately was addicted. I thought I was doing well, playing alone, doing George missions, going to the Dump, and trying out other crimes, until I created a thread in the forum looking for a community.
I became friends with experienced players and they taught me how to really play the game. It was then that the game became more enjoyable, interacting and communicating, doing things together with other players.
I want to share the things I've learned and will continue to update as I learn new things.
I am no expert, but I know these will help the newbies, the clueless, and old players alike. Torn is a game of strategy. Most of the tips for newbies are basic. When you master these, how you play the game is up to you.
You will find some who have other ideas or strategies in the comments. Some may present strategies contrary to mine. I encourage you to read them so you'll have other ideas. There is no right or wrong here. It only depends on your goals and objectives.
The
main point of each tip is
highlighted so you can scan the post and easily spot the tip that concerns you.

* NEWBIES, since it's your first time to play, it pays to learn how to
navigate Torn City by completing
George Missions on your first few days.
* Be
friendly. Send messages, ask questions, help others. It helps make Torn more enjoyable when you
interact with other players.
* If you're using an Android device, download
Torn PDA.
* NEWBIES,
don't waste your energy in the Dumps. What you will get there, more often than not, are not worth the energy that is better spent in the Gym.
*
Focus on Gym Training early in the game to increase your
Battle Stats so you can have better targets for attacks.
*
Set all Train values to zero (Strength, Defense, Speed, Dexterity) in the Gym so you don't accidentally train even if you hit the Train button.
* NEWBIES, don't be tempted to buy a house immediately.
Just rent. You're purpose for housing is to get more
happiness. The more happiness you have, the more benefits you get from the Gym. Rent a Mansion or Castle early in the game. See next tip
* NEWBIES, there are many ways to have lots of money early in the game so you can afford a house that gives
high happiness.* NEWBIES,
get a job ASAP. Applying for a job in companies pays better than the ones in Job Listings. Ask for referrals from faction mates.
* NEWBIES, you can buy
Plushies from Bits n' Bobs
daily and sell them in the Item Market or trade with another player. You can do this daily. It is another
source of daily income. Or you can trade with me. Chat me up for inquiry.

* NEWBIES, if you need money, steal chocolates when doing 4-Nerve crimes. It will be a good source of daily income.
Big Box of Chocolate Bars sell at a good price. You can steal up to more than 50 of them in a day. However, you have the risk of getting jailed, which negatively affects Crime Experience. Stealing jackets is the safest.

selling the things you stole in the Item Market or
trading with other players.
* NEWBIES, you can also earn by
SELLING LOSSES
* You will need a
Driver's License for some crimes like Arson and Auto Theft. You can get a license by enrolling in
General Studies up to level 2. Driving License is different from Racing License
