A rare spot has opened up in my 10* Detective Agency. 

You will need at least 30k MAN and 50k INT. EE merits are helpful, especially if you are close to the required stats. This is not an employment requirement but you'll have an easier time of things if your battle stats are over 1b. 

At 10*, you'll be able to generate a list of people with outstanding arrest warrants. Depending on the list + stat distribution, this often works out to an average of 20-30m/list. You could also spend your points on flight delays, friend/enemy reveals, or selling wanted lists to other people in DAs. 

The position is available now, so priority will go to someone who can join very close to immediately. Mails are preferred to DM. 

Several years ago, Ampheromine created a list of players and factions based on language. It has been a little while since it was updated, and with her retirement from Torn, it would continue to languish. While I never had the opportunity to meet Amph, I'm sure this is not something she'd want. So! I have recreated it here, from her original list, so that new (or established!) players can more easily find people that speak their native language. 

I have tidied up the last list Amph posted, removing inactive players/factions. If anyone would like to be added or removed, please feel free to reply here, or send me a mail, and I'll update accordingly.

G’day Torn!

Pull out the toast and crack open a fresh jar of Vegemite, because we’ve done it! Happy Vegemites has officially crossed the 5,000,000 respect milestone. 

What started as a handful of drongos looking for a new home has grown from a 3m shell into a 5m powerhouse. Through chain grinds, sometimes messy ranked wars, and enough energy cans to kill a kangaroo, we’ve proven that thick skin and black yeast extract can take you (almost) all the way to the top. Or at least to somewhere kinda over there.

A massive cheers to every single member who helped get us here. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or joined right in time for the final push, this achievement belongs to the whole crew.

To our allies and friendly rivals: thanks for the fun wars (and sometimes unfun wars...) and for keeping us on our toes. To our enemies: we’re still here, we still taste like salty yeast extract, and we’re not going anywhere. And before I land on even more Halloween lists: extra thanks to our Executive branch for all the support, despite the overwhelming lack of stand ups.

This year for Halloween, we set a challenge for each of our shells to achieve their longest chains yet:

Valour - 10k

Endurance - 25k 

Prosperity - 50k

Strength - 100k 

I am thoroughly delighted that everyone rose to the challenge, and we definitely had a lot of fun in the process.

Valour is where our newest and smallest members reside, and they had the challenge to complete a 10k chain. For many members this was their first significant chain (or first ever chain in many cases), and not only did they blitz through the 10k, they then took their efforts to the next level by completing a 25k chain without breaking a sweat.

Endurance has already shown their chaining abilities, having completed several 10k chains previously while setting new PBs each time. This year they went even bigger, completing their 25k chain without a hitch, while shaving 16 hours off their previous 10k record, and as I write this they are less than 1k away from completing another 10k.

Prosperity had their sights on completing a 50k chain, and to get it done comparatively faster than Strength. To make it more interesting I decided that if they met that goal and beat Strength, then they could pick a new name for some of the leadership team on Discord. They took the lead early on and never let it go, gaining 239k respect - and now I’m mildly terrified about what my Discord name will be for the next week.

And finally Strength had the challenge to go all the way - complete the first 100k chain for NPO. After 6 days, 18 hours and 49 minutes of non-stop attacks, the final hit was landed a few hours ago which placed Strength 10th on the HoF for chaining length and speed, generating over 512k respect which we’ll put to good use for the members.

I want to say a big, big thank you to the 380 members (and guests!) who combined made over 200k attacks, even battling through the lag as M’aol rose to wreak havoc on Torn, our 175 chain watchers who logged 1704 hours keeping our chains alive, and everyone including all our friends across Torn who came to talk nonsense in discord across the week.

I could not be prouder of each and every one of you.

I would like to apologise to LegendaryKing and auxman for the way I responded to their questions about their threads. I was unnecessarily reactive, and I'm sorry for that. It isn't fair to anyone who raises concerns in good faith, and is not how I want to behave towards others.

It is definitely a learning experience for me, and something I will be more mindful of going forward.

I genuinely do not understand where everyone found the time/energy/good spirits to keep up pushes SO consistently for so long. Absolutely awe-inspiring.

WHAT A WEEK.

This was my first time participating in Elims, and I could not have asked for a better experience … well, maybe winning, but BESIDES THAT, this has been so much fun, despite the long hours, lack of sleep, and mountain of work I need to catch up on.

Thank you to Star and Kwack in particular for the monumental efforts you’ve made this week, but none of this could have been done without Fidel, CAV and Brad as well. 

Anyone who spends a little time with me knows I love to yap, and yet not even I could have kept up with the sheer volume and consistency of messages from our push captains. Thank you forever for the insane amount of time you spent relaying orders, often with little notice as the sands shifted around us. Forever in awe of your work.

Every team has amazing members, but I am of course insanely biased towards every single one of our danger noodles that showed up and poured every ounce of energy they could into moving us forward, one ticket at a time. We spent a lot of time fighting back from the bottom of the list, and I promise not one second of the time you spent fighting as hard as you could went unnoticed or unappreciated. While we would have loved to take you to the top 3, I could not be more proud of what we have achieved.

... I am not sorry about not seeing croc tiddies in chat daily though, ya bunch of menaces.

I am particularly impressed by our smaller members, who not only embraced the challenge of doing Elims with few stats, but did it with such great spirits, even when they were being sat on by behemoths.

Thank you to those who supported us throughout this journey, your trust and friendship is gratefully received, and I hope I get the chance to work with you again in future years.
