A while ago I started popping the results of my races into a spreadsheet. At the time I wasn't really planning anything, just doing it out of idle interest and to track my own progress. As the data grew, the tracker slowly evolved into tracking every car across every track, and it dawned on me this might of some use to people, so here it is.
What Is It?
This is my personal tracker of best lap times for each car, across each track. All cars from all classes are included, which means that cars that don't usually get the spotlight have their chance to shine here.
Your Times Suck and I Can Do Better, How Can I Add My Lap Time?
If you have a time you think beats one of the ones on my tracker (or, if you’re one of the first ones to submit a time for that car/track), please drop the race link below. I have a script that pulls the data from the race to verify, and will add it in.
Hang On, I’m Already On Here, How Did You Get My Result? Are You Stalking Me?!
If you’ve ever raced with me, either in official races, JLT, player leagues, etc., there’s a good chance I’ll have trawled that data and added it to my results tracker. From time to tim I also just check out random race ID's and pull any new data from those, even if I wasn't in that race myself.
In addition, I’ve also added the global and class records, however this was done at time of creation. I’ve tried to keep up with new records, but it’s always possible I’ve missed some.
But yes, I may also be stalking you.
What Does This Actually Prove?
Not a lot. It's impossible to know what upgrades people are running, so this isn't a fair comparison against cars. That said, I hope through time and as I get more data, it'll give a good overview of how the cars perform against one another overall, but a chunk of it's still going to come down to RNG.
Really, this is just for funsies and bragging rights.
The Disclaimer Bit
- These are not official results in any way nor are they endorsed by Torn staff
- This is not a perfect view of all racing results across Torn
- It is limited to results I’ve been informed about or seen first hand
- There is no reliable way to confirm what build people are using when these times were posted
- There is no fully reliable way to confirm the RS of each racer at the time of submission
- While the underlying data is verified, I am only human so errors are possible (but have yet to happen!)
- This data will not automatically update a racer who has changed their username, and will show the original username at time or submission unless I am otherwise notified
- If you or a loved one find yourself compiling masses of fictional race data for no real reason, please consult your doctor immediately
What’s Next?
Please help me populate this! There are still lots of gaps in my data, owing to the sheer volume of combinations of different cars and tracks to populate. I’m frequently hosting one lap races to try and populate these with basic data, but if others fancy helping that would speed things up massively.
LtCabel made the very good suggestion of adding in RS data, so perhaps splitting this even further into course, car, and RS brackets. At present I don’t hold RS data, but will try and track this going forward and, if I get to the point where I have enough data, I will build new tables for this. Thanks to the folks at The Pit Stop for responding and sending me additional stats!
I’d like to eventually turn this into a ‘non-racing league’ sort of thing, where if people can post better times then they win a prize. At the moment, the data isn’t populated enough to make this viable (e.g. I’d be bankrupt by you just posting a bunch of crap Class D times and claiming prizes), but once there’s enough data in there I’ll revisit this idea.
I’ll continue to update the data, upload new tables, and likely redesign stuff as we go on as this was just sort of a rough mock-up to get it out of the door. I'm not sure if I'll continue posting embedded images, figure out a new table format, or just link to a Google sheet, but that's all stuff I can worry about as we go on.
Thank you to everyone who responded on Discord or directly to provide me with data to get me going, and for all those who joined me in races.
