Events bring the community together. When it is time to spawn M'aol the whole community worked together and had a great time doing it! When a DB drops everyone knows about it and there are forum posts about it for days. These events bring a level of excitement to torn that makes it fun to come back to, and makes it feel like we are all in a living, breathing city together.
I propose a two-part solution for the day to day monotony in torn and I believe it would help spice up gameplay, This would be split into a weather events system and a city events system. The events are tunable by rarity, seasonality, and intensity. They can disrupt passive battle stats, gym gains, combat, travel, markets, cooldown timers, and more, giving players new strategic decisions to consider everyday.
(WIP)
Every day at 00:00 TCT the system rolls to check if there will be a city event active. If active, it picks an event from a weighted table. The weather system should always have an event active even if it provides no effect, and should be weighted depending on the time of year. All effects will last until the next day. The active event(s) should be displayed in the news ticker, and weather events should be visible from the city map via a toggleable overlay.
There are so many options for city/weather events, and so many different ways to tune them. The more these effects interact with all of Torn's pre-existing systems the more fun it could be. Ideally, the city events system would be packed with options so you wouldn't see more than one city event per year, though this may be a little optimistic.
These are just some of the ideas I had and some of the effects I thought would go good with them, to be used as inspiration. What city/weather events would you like to see implemented or added to the list?
Upvote if you like the suggestion, and thanks for your time.
If you’re looking for a friendly, welcoming, and active faction, Business & Trade Family might be the place for you. We are a less demanding faction than most, but we welcome all levels of skill.
We war biweekly. Some are termed wars and some are vanilla ranked wars, with the exception of a few rules to reduce unnecessary drama. Termed wars pay all faction members, and vanilla wars pay based on hits made. Participation isn't required but it is rewarded. If you’ve never been in a war before this is a great place to learn!
We have opted in to organized crimes 2.0, and our members enjoy a 90% payout for all successful organized crimes. We have fixer in place to help to keep things running smoothly.
Whether you’re looking to learn the ropes, or jump into a welcoming faction that’s here to help you grow, Business & Trade Family is a great place to do just that.
I don't remember who it was, but I remember distinctly messaging someone that had starting advertising their torn recruitment link on another niche entertainment website. The website didn't have a lot of advertisers or users at the time and I reckon it was cheap to buy ad space. It seemed like the kind of community that would really enjoy torn. The ad read like a torn ad but if you clicked the link it gave them the recruitment. It was honestly genius. I looked at the player ID in the link and sent them a message, but they talked like the ad didn't get them many recruits. Cool idea nonetheless.
How do I always manage to break things in new ways? Any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks.
faction members WILL display, its just all under these stat estimates and last actions. I think if I refresh the page a few times I can make the last action and stat predictions multiply.
Have you played ONI? I’ve been stuck on it lately but I’m bad and it’s hard to beat the game without using exploits like infinite water storage. The new DLC has been a lot of fun.
I’ve never beaten Rimworld in the traditional sense but I have gotten quite a few playthroughs to a place I was happy with, and decided to start anew.
