so.. me and my fellow faction admins have been debating on territories for a little over a year.. mainly cuz my faction leader doesnt know how that would look for us, since we are so much smaller. so I have some questions for the veterans of torn.
1. Is it advised to talk to bigger factions about getting protection? if so.. what would they want?
2. how would a smaller faction go about looking for a territory? should we invade someone or take an empty one?
3. somewhat related question.. but is there a way to tell if a faction is in an alliance? is there a master document someone has that keeps track of all the major alliances and the factions that are in them?

How can I use the beta version?
I Have been doing some reading about player ran companies, and I have an idea on how we could revamp it to spice it up. I call it expanding into a new industry.
You can expand your company by meeting the following conditions:
being a 10 star company for 8 weeks in a row
you have to have 1.5x-2.5x money made of the top 8 star company (reason for the range is I dont know how much the difference is between a 8 star and a 10 star company is)
benefits of expanding your company:
You can make more money
new max star ranking of 15
Possible new specials
Cons:
Your star ranking is dropped to 5 stars (to represent expanding into a new industry)
You need to make more money to rank up
You need to hire more staff
specials cost more if this system goes into place to balance the new influx of job points
reasons I think this is a good idea:
gives long term players something new to look forward to
player ran companies have stayed mostly the same for years, so it would spice up the player ran companies
reasons this could be bad
if not balanced correctly, could end up being too strong or too weak
long term players could flock to newly prestiged companies, leaving younger companies in the hole
How I see this working
you can expand into a new industry, meaning you would need to employ staff for both industries. when you expand, you choose another company type. that is your new industry. You would then get positions for both the industry you chose when you started the company, and the new industry you choose when U expand. as for specials, You would get the 3 star special, and the 5 star special at 12 star and 15 star respectively. HOWEVER, they would cost double the points, seeing as its not your specialty. you might say Ooga, this could open up some very wierd combinations, someone could open a candle shop get it to 10 star, then prestige and get oil rig specials.
well, I would say to you, I have a plan for that, you would only be able to choose a industry to expand into that costs 1m (or less) more than what it cost to start your current company. for example, if you started with a candle shop, you would be able to expand into a fireworks stand, flower shop, hair salon, property broker, clothing shop, restaurant, seet shop, game shop, pub, or music store. However, If you started an oil rig, you would be able to expand into anything. that way you cant get oil rig profits from starting a candle shop.
