Indie Dev here! ·

The first thing that came to mind reading your game's title was conveyor belts... my brain is clearly faulty to draw the similarity to FICSIT Inc so quickly.

Are you going down a similar vein to things like phasmo, lethal company, etc's formula? The kind of "better with friends", randomised mission location and objective type of game?

No, that is NOT solid snake!

Eh, I sort of get what you mean about knives being less special but I think they're more in line with the other popular weapons now. There are more cheap knives available, but the most desirable ones are still pretty expensive. Just because everyone has a knife doesn't mean that everyone's running around with blue gem karas, right?

I'm not sure I agree with case opening being less profitable in theory, do you have any data on it? In theory, with reds and some pinks going up in value thanks to the trade ups, the chances of getting an item worth more than the key and case is higher. You might not get as many "big wins" but I don't see that making it harder to profit. Not that I support the idea of trying to profit on CS cases, I don't think they were ever profitable in the long run.

Cosmetics in video games are not good investments because things like this can happen without warning. Kinda your own fault if you lose that much money on pixels, and that's the kind of risk you accept by having thousands sat in CS skins.

It was a good update, makes some of the most premium items more accessible. With the recent gameplay changes on top of that, I've finally stopped missing GO quite as much.

Best place to start playing Final Fantasy? · · 2 likes

FF7 isn't a bad place to start, especially with the remakes being recent releases with more modern gameplay. Might make it easier  to get into.

You could always go on to play the original version of 7 to see how much it's changed.

What sort of games are you making, like genre, etc?

Have you published any games on steam before?

Always considered trying VA work, but never knew where to start. Would be interested to see what sort of stuff you're making + what sort of direction it goes in.

Can't help with art though, unfortunately.

What is your favourite metal gear soild game · · 3 likes

Peace walker would have to be the best for me. Really need a proper remake for this underrated game.

If you've never seen it before, it's what MGS 5 was a sequel to and covers what Snake did after MGS 3. Puts a lot of weight behind the Big Boss legend and the context is pretty important for the setting of MGS 5 and the engine demo (can't remember it's name right now) to make sense.

Full of the typical MGS nonsense, loads of game references like a Monster Hunter game mode and an Assassin's Creed easter egg. Also mechs. Zeke is the best metal gear. Beach date with Kaz? Why not. Singing AI weapons blasting you with railguns? Yes please.

Is Borderlands 4 going to save Gearbox? · · 1 like

Appreciate the reply. May give it a shot and see how it goes. By performance/crashing do you mean it just crashes a lot or does it run poorly too?

Is Borderlands 4 going to save Gearbox? ·

Honestly I was going to skip 4 after how 3 played, so haven't looked into 4 much. How would you rate it compared to BL2, and what would you say are some of the improvements over 3 and TTWL?

I primarily make mods for existing games but have built some hobby project games. If you want cheap, make it simple. It's not just spending money on art etc that might drive the cost of development up, but one thing people often overlook for indie games is development and study time. Electricity and food aren't free.

Stick to a simple art style, use an engine that works with a programming language you understand (or be committed to learn one before you even begin), have a clear, realistic goal in mind for every day you work on it.

Anyone play Marvel Rivals or Ready or Not for PC? ·

They changed some of the more obscene content in the game (like things related to children and trafficking) so that it could get rated for console release. Apparently allowing more people to enjoy the game is a bad thing? Ignore those reviews, the gameplay is the same as before the update.

Censorship in games is going too far ·

The payment processors are who says they can't get rid of anything they don't agree with. They've challenged some genuinely disgusting content that these businesses shouldn't want to be associated with and will likely ignore the group asking them to challenge any products that actually make them money.

As far as I know from what I've read, itchio delisted everything in that category in one go because they would need to audit through every listing to make sure it complies with the requirements of the payment processor. So long as these games aren't breaking those requirements, they'll probably end up back on the platform when they're through with it.

Just take a look at steam new releases. On the first page alone there's 5 games that are basically intercourse simulators, so I wouldn't worry about your nsfw games disappearing.

Tldr- itchio took drastic action to guarantee their payment processor stuck with them. Just wait, it'll blow over once they're done checking games.

Mobile rogue-like game brainstorming · · 2 likes

The thing that excites me the most about these games is what makes them unique, and a huge turn off is there being a lack of a unique feature which really makes that game stand out amongst similar titles.

I don't just mean their themes either, I mean a really solid mechanic or at least a gimmick that people will know your game by. Think dungreed being based on the food buffs, or sky rogue letting you use the switch joycons as a flight stick.

It's one of the reasons I dislike the binding of Isaac. It has an interesting setting, some really clever items and is quite feature rich, but I can't pick anything out that doesn't also exist in other similar games. If it does exist, I can't pick it out on the top of my head and that's just as bad. It's not a bad game by any stretch, but it doesn't leave me feeling like there was something I experienced there that doesnt appear in a different game.

If you're going free to play I think you should consider that hurdle. You will get people to play easily because the game is free, but what will your game show them that makes them want to play it again over something else?

Warframe Got Me Again · · 1 like

The game's aesthetic was great, as was the variety of weapons and abilities, it just becomes way too much of a time sink for not a huge amount of progress. Definitely better with friends to take some of the repetitiveness out of grinding. Haven't touched it in years though, I took a big break from the game and found it impossible to get back into further down the line.

Handheld Gaming · · 2 likes

Got a blue original ds for christmas one year. Nintendogs, animal crossing wild world and pokemon mystery dungeon/diamond were my introductions to handheld gaming.

Kind of stuck with Nintendo from there for handhelds, had a dsi, 3ds and now a switch. It's crazy how far these things have come.

Road Trip Adventure. So many childhood memories and is so much fun even today. Never played any other ChoroQ games, but that doesn't matter to me.

Have to agree with your take on the game here. Competitively YGO is a nightmare. Playing with friends and making broken/fun decks that aren't meta is so much fun.

Any good screen recorders? · · 3 likes

OBS doesn't use a lot of resources on its own. It's the encoding that is performance intensive, so you've likely got things set up in a way your PC can't handle, like for example you could be trying to encode on your CPU when it doesn't have the performance to handle that, so you should encode on your GPU instead or you're trying to record in too high a bitrate, so need to lower it. For reference I've been using OBS for years, and made it work just fine on an old AMD FX6300 and a GTX 750ti.

Your GPU may also have come with its own recording software, like Nvidia cards come with Shadowplay that runs off your GPU so isn't CPU intensive in the same way. It would be worth looking up some guides on how to set your recording software up for your own PC specs, but keep in mind anyone who opens a video with "hey guys this video is brought to you by raid shadow legends" likely knows very little about the subject.

Feel free to message me if you want more specific info, I can help you get things set up.

VR Headset - Your Thoughts · · 1 like

I've got a wired VR headset that goes into my PC and I honestly don't think I'd be able to cope on a battery for longer gaming sessions. I play things like Payday 2 VR and when one job can be 15-60 minutes each, you don't get much done on a 3 hour battery. I don't easily get motion sickness though, so I can see a lot of people not managing to run down the battery before needing a break. Motion sickness is somewhat common with VR.

That being said, I know someone who does have a battery powered VR headset and they use it to exercise with games like beatsaber and it lasts long enough for what they want to do so the charge time isn't an issue for them.

In that sense it depends on what exactly you're going to do with it. If you're playing games for longer periods of time I'd definitely look into a wired headset. The experience of playing with a VR headset is something you need to, well... experience, to be able to understand just how good it feels. Shooting, driving, flying, using a grappling hook etc just isn't the same on a flat screen once you've got a VR headset.
