I'm after some advice regarding what is the best antivirus software for my PC (TUF Gaming FX505DT - yes she's old but she does what I need for now!)
I've had Norton™ 360 Deluxe III for years, it works and I just kept renewing without thinking tbh. It just seems to be getting far more intrusive and constant popups advising me my drivers are out of date (they aren't) and my system seems to be slowing down a lot lately.
I need something that won't mess with online gaming - and it has to have a very good VPN - and something that doesn't slow my computer down with unnecessary popups and ads. I need it for 3 devices - not bothered about mobile phone protection.
I've just started a 3 month free trial of McAfee and I'm hating it - no reason I just don't like the setup or layout.
I'm currently looking at - believe it or not Norton 360 For Gamers - as it says it eliminates lag of online games and stops programs running in the background that eat up resources. This is tempting as I do online game a lot and I know how to tweak stuff for performance - but if this can do it then I'm tempted.
I was looking at Kaspersky - but there seems to be a lot of confusion over the future of it (also I'm in Australia and it isn't banned here yet!)
SurfShark and Malwarebytes are also ones I'm looking at but to be honest I'm just overwhelmed by what is around.
I know 'best' is subjective but I really would like some advice from you smart folk out there.
You got further than me! I did the very first bit, I think it was pulling a splinter out or something and died...never tried again :) I can't even remember what it was I had to do to be honest! Survival more all the way...Oh not seen the no permadeath though! Gonna have to launch it up and have and see!! It's my Winter coming up so perfect timing :)
Thanks so much Spoon. I've been reading up and what you've said is exactly the conclusion I was coming too. Windows Defender has gotten a whole lot better since it was introduced and a lot of other articles I've read have said that.
I've been using the in-built VPN with Opera and that has been good, and Proton I've been using on a spare laptop just to see how it goes, and for a free trial it has been ok.

Not trying to necro this thread, but I'm a new player - trying to read as much as I can in forums and saw this.
I use a VPN, do I need to be worried about a ban or something? I had to do the captcha thingy but only once. And those things give me anxiety at the best of times...
