I'm a big fan of this! I know other people are giving you crap, but it's a solidly written diary entry. Especially loving how you captured the noir vibes with your metaphors.

I found this book completely by accident, right after finishing "The Terror" by Dan Simmons, and I was very amused at the author's choice of love interest (if you don't know, "The Terror" is a historical fiction/horror retelling of the events that befell the crews of the HMS Terror and Erebus). I'm glad to know it was enjoyable--I might have to start reading it soon.

I'm currently reading "Neuromancer" by William Gibson! I've been meaning to read it for a long time, and now that I'm into it I can confidently say it was worth it! My only gripes are that his writing is very convoluted sometimes--i.e. I've had to go back and read passages at least a couple times over to be able to understand them. That, and the characters could stand to be a bit more fleshed out. I think he relies too heavily on the detective noir character tropes instead of building his own characters--although, he more than makes up for it with incredible worldbuilding!
