As a non-American, and someone who's not on social media, or has their life dictated by it's algorithms, I genuinely read the news yesterday thinking "who the hell is this Charlie Kirk fella?".

Don't get me wrong, killing is bad, more so for being out of the remit of self-defence. However, i'm baffled by the amount of genuflection & airtime received by this person.  They've no military achievement, personal exploits, academic output, or business acumen, that makes them standout. And many people who have done good for their local community have died without the same level of recognition received. If anything, from the brief snapshot of his thought I've seen over the last 28 hours, he seems a bit of a demagogue, and dishonest.

All this has done is just remind me how happier I am for not being on social media, following (slavishly?) it trends, engaging in inauthentic celebrity hero worship, and having little to do with America and it's 'culture'.

Chlorine is preferable to parasites, viruses, & bacteria. The amount in your (tap) water isn't going to harm you (though the parasites/viruses/bacteria in un-chlorinated are likely to give you the sh*ts).

Most toothpaste has added flouride anyway.

I have read Zapffe's essay. 

I'm inclined to give professor Moen's opinions some weight, as he has studied Zapffe's work and, like Zapffe, Norwegian is his first language. Also, I would point to Zapffe himself, who's other work (On The Tragic) also affirms his antinatalist views, and he made the active decision not to father any children.

Even your response doesn't count as a refutation of Zapffe's stance. For instance: 

When one decides to not procreate, they are just inflicting themselves more suffering. 

This may very well be the case (a lot of people tie the meaning of their lives with the production of offspring). Nevertheless, if we forego having children, then there are no further generations who have this self-afflicted suffering, or potential suffering accrued in their lives.

As an interesting asside: Have you read any Ernest Becker (or anything on terror management theory)? If you like Zapffe's work, there are some interesting parallels (humans developing psychological mechanisms to suppress thoughts of our own mortality, as opposed to conscious per se).

No, Zapffe was always an Antinatalist, and saw it as the moral outcome of his philosophy.
