I was born in the Spring of 1980 right at the beginning of the Gaming Era. My first gaming system was the Commodore 64! It was an 8 bit home computer system that you could code things and play video games. 1982 it came out. Look at what we got today 44 years later. Ultra 4k realistic open world video games with VR worlds indistinguishable from reality. I was fortunate to be a part of the rise of video games. Atari, Nintendo, PlayStation, GameCube, Sega Genesis, I had to play them all! From mastering Pitfall, Joust, Zelda, Resident Evil, Tekken, God Of War, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, -(Even played the very first GTA on a Nokia cellphone) the list goes on and on. I dedicated my entire life to video games.
Let’s talk about Torn. I’ve never played a game like this. It’s a completely different vibe. The city never sleeps. Always something to do. And the people are real. The shit is never ending. But it takes brains to make it, you really gotta know how the game mechanics work or Duke will be bringing his boys to dump your ass somewhere to only get mugged by someone over and over. Whether Hospitalized, Mugged or Left in the streets bleeding out possibly burning the city of Torn makes you come back for the abuse. Fly to different countries, trade, race, gamble and fight with your faction with cooperation through coordinated attack and defensive strategies to overcome your enemies in Wars.
I want to hear stories from those who have started the this city. I want to hear why you have been playing the same game for 20 years.Even if you got 5 years in let me know what has kept you here for so long!
Greeting my fellow Torn citizens! I have come across many many players that have been in the game for many years, but when I ask them what it felt like to have that much time played some of them would say well I took some time off and I’ve come back, but it says that I’ve been here for X amount of years. So I am wondering, what made you stop and what made you come back? Time in/Time out/Time back in….
If there could be any ITEM that you would add to Torn what would it be? It can be anything. Give it a description just like if I was to look it up in here as an item.
I’m relatively new around here, but I wanted to drop a post in the General Discussion thread to share some thoughts that have been brewing since I started playing. When I first signed up, I expected a standard text-based RPG where I’d click a few buttons, level up, and mindlessly pass the time. Instead, I’ve been completely blown away by how much this game mirrors real life. It is less of a simple game and more of a gritty, complex simulator of human behavior, strategy, and survival.
The first thing that hits you as a new player is the economics. In most games, money is just an abstract currency you farm from monsters to buy flashier gear. Here, you quickly realize you need to learn how to budget your money just to get by. Every dollar matters. Do I spend my cash on medical supplies and energy refills, or do I hold back to pay for a better property? The financial ecosystem forces you to think about opportunity cost. If you blow all your cash early on luxuries, you end up broke and unable to progress efficiently. It forces a level of financial discipline that is shockingly applicable to everyday real-world budgeting.
As you navigate the system, you discover that you can't just stash your money under a digital mattress if you want to grow. You actually have to think about saving your money using investments. Looking through the stock market options and city bank investment timelines felt incredibly close to looking at real-world financial planning. You are weighing risks, locking away liquidity for long-term gains, and trying to build passive income streams. Making a bad investment or getting mugged because you carried too much cash teaches you a swift lesson about security and asset management.
But what really cements the realism isn't just the math; it’s the people. Torn forces players into coming together and learning how to create new relationships. You cannot easily survive or thrive as a complete loner. Joining a faction, finding a reliable company to work for, or just finding a veteran player willing to show you the ropes requires real communication and trust. You build genuine alliances, navigate social dynamics, and sometimes deal with betrayal. The social capital you build with other players is just as valuable as the cash in your vault.
Ultimately, everything in this game is based on real-world actions with real-world decisions that come with real-world outcomes. If you make a reckless move, break a promise to a faction, or mismanage your funds, the consequences are tangible and long-lasting. There is no magic "reset" button. Every victory feels earned because the system doesn't hold your hand, and every mistake is a genuine learning experience.
For the veterans who have been here for years, does the game still hold this kind of weight for you? And for my fellow rookies, what has been the biggest real-world lesson the city has taught you so far?
I personally love Torn. It will never ‘get old’ to me. Thank you for giving me a few moments of your time by reading this! GODSPEED

Sounds Amazing!!! 🤩 Can’t wait for TornCon to come tour the US! And having TornCon held in Vienna is outright genius. You can literally get there from anywhere in the world. It’s super badass I might add. Why wouldn’t they have it in a beautiful place like Vienna?! If I had a way to go I’d be there no doubt! I hope all who do go has a great time!

Absolutely amazing! Well done, you put a lot of thought into this I can see. Is there a way we could present this to the Devs? I mean it’s worth a shot!!!!! Absolutely AMAZING!!

I’ve been gaming since the 80s my very first gaming computer was the Commodore 64 and it was legit back then lol. But that will be for another post lol so what I’m looking for is what other games do you play other than torn? What is the other game that you play when you are not on torn?
Ok u got me stuck like chuck. My naivety being that I was and still am a newb in Torn I have come to the conclusion that .. Torn is full of whack jobs, weirdos, creeps, narcissists, who knows possibly a few who use the whole jar of peanut butter when it’s just u and your girlfriends dog for the weekend while she’s out ‘with some co-workers’ in Vegas. Yea I don’t think Singles Night will be a big hit unless you got an Octopus 🐙 Bong full of Cannabis laced with a sprinkle of some Speed. Yet I still come back for the abuse. I Love Torn!
