The smell of a salty roast meat woke Amrut up It appeared to him that he missed much while asleep, it was hard to determine what time it was, and yet the ability to sleep as long as needed did not guarantee restful sleep.
He did remember flashes of his dream though, something about dice and initiative checks.
ZakAttack, the man that they executed yesterday, was up and walking about. "I have a chance now to thank him for helping me fix up my Armour, I must also start taking my votes more seriously from now on" he muttered...
In the mornings the old wound in his leg cramps up, and this morning despite the excitement was no exception. forcing himself up he limped over to the open flame that was roasting what he could only assume was the dragon meat, the only fresh food he was aware of, he joined in the group that was gorging themselves on the meat, a quick glance around and he noticed the fairy valla looking upon the feasting people with what could only be described as nausea.
He gathered from the general chat among those eating that there was a murder last night! the rumors of assassins where true, all the more reason to be careful.
They needed to get out of here, and mindlessly hacking away at the dead dragon like he was dong yesterday would be quite futile.... after eating he decided he would take a closer look at the dragon. Not usually one for making a scene Amrut stood up and said loudly to any that would hear
"The dragon scales cannot be that thick all the way round, check the joints and who wish to help, if we can find soft exposed areas we may be able to remove entire limbs, that would make it significantly easier to drag the carcass away"
He sat down and finished eating, and took the time to start observing the others, "If this assassin threat is as dire as it seems to be then observing is key" he thought to hiself
(I am going to continue roleplaying, because i like roleplaying... deal with it)
Amrut stood in silence, there was a lot to take in.
The fight with the dragon was the most excitement he had had in years, and a red dragon no less! one of the most evil and vile creatures to roam the land.
However...
The letter 'found' by the suspiciously well equipped human kicked of a frenzy! nearly everyone was arguing, bickering or brooding. "typical of adventurers" he thought "This is why i travel alone" But the thought of assassins in their midst did worry him, why where they here, who would want the fair princess dead and most importantly, why would they leave behind evidence of their presence, such as a note.
All his time serving as martial to the imbecile he used to call his lord had taught him many things... battles may be won with aggression, especially if there is some of the more wilder folk in the group. but wars.... wars are won with information, just as much as warm bodies (and after the roasting the dragon gave he he was certainly a warm body)
His initial suspicions turned to Thamior, if only because of the deep inert mistrust those of their kind typically receive. Then again the thought "When people find out abut my heritage don't they often treat me with suspicion" Afterall, he was the only one doing anything practical about getting rid of the assassins.
He stood up and shouted loudly I vote Otter then muttered to himself "glorified firewood"
(_Valkyrie_ bullied me into this, blame her if i screw up)
Amrut stood at the gates of the castle, late as usual. Ever since he sold his horse it has never been easy getting anywhere; but times where tough, and the market for solo adventurers is cutthroat (literally sometimes). He hails the gate guards and the seargent calls to him. "Name?" "Amrut" "Busness here" "responding to the kings summons" The sergeant looks Amrut over, they see a middle aged man with a slight limp, more then a few scars and dragging a rather large bag over their shoulder. "and whats in the bag?" he askes. Amrut replied calmly, "That would be my equipment sir, you don't think i would be able to carry my Armour, weapon and necessary potions in my pockets do you? "Your funeral i guess" The gate starts opening.
It was another beginning for him, Amrut couldn't help but think of the roads that led him to this point, many many generations ago his ansestor though it would be a fun idea to make love with an incubus she summoned, the result was a bloodline with daemon blood, while largely diluted by this day and age it left Amrut with a slow maturity time, not par with elves of course but he was pushing 80 by this point but most humans assumed he was in his his 40's that and the slight whiff of brimstone early in the morning!
Of course a long life as a EX Knight did the looks department no favors, his pervious lord was a imbicile who died childless while trying to make tove to a rose bush, this left Amrut in a awkward position, become just another unknown veteran or go rouge and flee with all his knightly equipment!
Amrut fleed of course, he never was much one for pointless rules. But now he is here, penniless, tired and weary. But the king promised riches, and riches mean warm beds, hot food and perhaps a maiden or two! And if all the while he could do a good deed and save a princess.... well that is why people used to call him a hero afterall!
Ok I will bite, Vote b00 My apologies for not being overly active, it may seem like an oxymoron but I seem to have LESS free time during my weekends. Will be back to roleplaying and pay a bit more attention soon.
I remember studying it in English as part of my 2nd year NCEA's and I loved going through all those old war poems, it brought the situations to life moreso then accounts because of how charged with emotion they where.
There is another poem of the same name written by someone else who's name I cannot remember, it was written before the guy saw any combat and it went on about how glorious and noble it was to die for king and country, the start contrast between how people perceived the war before and after taking up arms is amazing and really shows off how effective the propaganda machine was back then - the guy who wrote this poem died before firing a single shot, killed off by tuberculosis.
Wilfred Owen - the guy who wrote the amazing poem above died only a week before the armistice, and while I know its nothing special (considering the shear amount of deaths at the somme) it is somewhat heartbreaking.
as for the OP's question, I cannot answer I never have been in a 'real' combat situation and I doubt I ever will be. and I intend to keep my thoughts to myself.
Sustainable practice and business is like teenagers and sex: they all say they are doing it, few of them actually are, and those that are doing it are doing it wrong
Two of them for me , whenever I cross a bridge I always get paranoid that I am about to throw my keys over the edge, sort of a "won't it be really funny but sad" moment .
The other one is violently insulting myself, sometimes family and friends hear me muttering and I cover it up :/ Sad thing is while it's somewhat involuntarily I do sometimes believe myself.
Classical music, a walk in the dark and ranting to who or whatever will listen.
I used to be a lot more self-destructive with my choice of catharsis, but it dawned on me that I just don't like who I become when intoxicated and depressed, kinda created a downward spiral, shure I felt good and the pain was gone for at least a few hours but come morning it's back, along with a hangover and cringeworthy memories of what you said or did.
I don't have the perfect answer, and my way sometimes don't work but what's important is that I have a coping mechanism for this insanity deemed "life" ideally yours doesn't cause more problems than it fixes.
Those above me are correct, and while it's not nice to hear but healthy eating and living helps, not imeadtly but given time it does.
As does escaping, go bush for a week or two go to the coast, or find a mountain to hike up.
if you are looking for a classic JRPG you can't go past
"legend of heroes trails in the sky"
Gotta be one of my all time favorites, cliched yes undoubtedly (but isn't that why we play these games) Well written characters (bar 1 or 2) great and fitting soundtrack and very well localized and a story that will punch you in all the right places if you let it.
Amrut woke up with a splitting headache, probably something to do with all the philosophical talk about religion and converting to a new god of games.
He had been so focused the last few days at hacking away at the now very odours carcass of the dragon, that much of the intrigue had slipped beyond his notice. The decisions on how to kill had be very divisive with people seeming to strongly omit to one of three options. Amrut had full intention to leave this cave alive. He had plans for his share of the loot!
Listening to the argument made by Kuro parts of it made sense, He spoke to Kuro "I Hope you are wrong, but I am inclined to vote with you, I hope you are aware that should this go the wrong way you will be painting a massive target on both our backs!"
I am not exactly qualified to comment, being the outsider and all. But the way i see it... IF daisy takes over, the game keeps moving and when Smeg comes back she can hand it back over to him.
Hosting a game like this requires dedication and knowing this i doubt smeg would disappear without a good reason, therefore we can assume he is not gonna make an appearance anytime soon... as much as i wish i was wrong.

Amrut found the swinging of the axe therapeutic, he once traveled with a Dwarven monk (Of the rocky fist) and they just wouldn't shut up about his meditation techniques, it wasn't until this point Amrut understood the benefits behind it. of course the monk claimed to reach enlightenment through copious amounts of mead and tavern song; not the content thud of an axe impacting the flesh of the mighty beast.
After what seemed like an eternity his mind was snapped back to reality with a jarring shock through his arms, a loud CRACK! and followed by thud.... He looked down, and focused.. the axe he was using was buried deep into the joint of the beast, wooden handle shattered 'must of hit bone' he thinks, this task will me a monumental one, dragon-bone was rumored be be harder then its scales and those alone chipped the enchanted axe he stole from the dragons hoard.
Making a mental note to thank the fairy who gave him a drink Amrut walked away from the dead beast, and back to the spot he claimed for himself, he never was much one for axes anyway he thought, too clumsy and too brutal. he much preferred efficiency... let the younger knights and swordsmen run around with massive blades, flashy moves and boastful attitudes, he knew what he could do and had no interest in setting himself up for a fall; bastard sword and shield was his style, get in quickly let the Armour and shield take the punishment hit the vitals and move on... quick clean and efficient.... Anything that made things easier was gold in his book.
Looking at those still hacking away at the beast, Diasy the dwarf who he felt a strange camaraderie with despite the lack of words, Thamior he was still curious about, what is a drow doing here anyway don't they usually keep to the utterdark? Cthulhu was still devouring the dragons brain with what he could only imagine as a feeling of ecstasy... He thought to himself "I wonder if that dragon knew another way out of here? if he did Cthulhu would be the one to ask"
And finaly, Amrut had a good look at those resting and eating (the former group now included him) He glanced at an ogre with more scars then even himself, playing with small furry creatures... "Now that must be one heck of a backstory" he mutters to himself.
After a little while of resting Amrut got up and figured it was time to find some food. And if he got the chance would have a chat with the ogre
"Indeed, the tree man has given me no reason to suspect him, aside from being strangely scorch resistant. And that my good man is why i voted for them, if he is indeed innocent it was a wasted vote and gives me more time to observe, and if they where an assasin... it would be in their best interests to stay neutral"
Amrut trudged over the the tree he so recently insulted "You! i meen you no offence, you pulled more then your fair share against that dragon, but my vote remains true"
He then walked over to the dragon, with no obvious way around the corpse of the majestic beast he started to make himself useful, picking up a axe from the dragons hoard he starts chopping, the swinging of the axe in time with the singing of the dwarf next to him.....
Amrut stood in silence, there was a lot to take in.
