Long post alert.
I'll refer to football (not american) as that's what i'm most familiar with. This could have multiple sports such as Football, American football, basketball, baseball, hockey, rugby, cricket etc.as long as skill types are generic enough.
Each sport would have its own divisions I.e. you couldn’t have a football team vs a baseball team
Teams
All teams can be started with a flat fee maybe 100m or community teams can be joined (similar to jobs/companies) and will start in the lowest division 1, divisions will increase as it will be easier to add more if necessary.
Teams will start with 11 players and can be placed in any position (gk,lb,rb,cb,cb,lm,cm,cm,rm,st,st) each will have appropriate skills to be discussed later. This can be increased with substitutes who will provide 1/2 stats.
Teams can have a kit and badge which will allow the manager to customize ( kit can be purchased with either torn dollars or reputation points earned by winning/drawing matches)
Seasons
Seasons will last 10 weeks (could be more or less), and every week you will be matched against a random team in your division, in order to be promoted you will have to achieve x wins/draws, this will change depending on division and will work similar to fifa season mode (as an example 2 wins for division 1, 3 wins div 2, 4 wins div 3 ect.) divisions 2+ will have a relegation zone, so at the end of the 10 weeks if you haven't gained x wins you join the lower division (can be similar to company stars)
If you fail to win any games for 3 seasons or the team goes bankrupt they will be deleted as a clear up exercise
Transfer window
Once you have joined a team you are locked in for 80% of the season at which point your salary can't be changed, however you can be traded by your manager for a minimum of 100x your total stats or another player using their minimum transfer value+cash at any point. after 80% you are able to leave for free. If you really want to leave within the 80% you can terminate your contract, this will charge you the minimum transfer fee and give your skills a de-buff for the remainder of the season.
Skills
Skills an be gained by training with energy, and will work similar to gym gains and offer an alternative to fighting. Alternatively could work similar to racing points where skill points are earnt by taking part in matches (more points awarded for win>Draw>loss) under this system you would spend your points similar to merits with increasing costs and no upper limit. I’ll leave up to devs to decide which route (my preference is energy however a few comments have disliked this aspect)
Each position will have applicable skills some examples but no way exhaustive:
GK
Handling
Awareness
Passing
Reactions
One on Ones
CB
Pace
Tackling
Timing
Awareness
CM
Passing
Awareness
Accuracy
Technique
ST
Pace
Shooting
Accuracy
One on Ones
More roles can be added later for different combinations of skill points.
Upgrades
Each team will be able to upgrade their facilities/staff these will include:
Stadium - Attract more Fans
Merchandise - earn more income off fans
Training Ground - apply bonus to team stats.
Medical Facility - Reduce risk of injury.
Community Program - Reduce cost of hosting games
Scouting- allows you to randomly spy x number of players stats from the opposing team, this is random can be used for tactical hospitalisation
Team Doctor- % of players skills still take effect if in hospital
Making Money
Each team will accumulate fans, this will be based on reputation and the team upgrades above as well as a division bonus. These fans will generate an income, you can also have a win/draw bonus as well as a promotion bonus. Relegation from the division can cost the previous promotion bonus as well as reputation damage.
It will cost to host games.
Game
Will be calculated by (total team stats by position + bonuses+ (total team current nerve*multiplier)+(total drug addiction*multiplier)) *(RNG 0.66 - 1) for randomness of sport.
I have included nerve as it will give it an additional purpose and also top athletes have to keep nerve under pressure.
If your players are in hospital when the game takes place then their stats are excluded from the calculations.
Drug addiction level can have a positive impact on the game, this can reflect performance enhancing drugs, however if at a random chance drugs addiction > 5 per person (on average) are discovered then the team will lose 70% of their income as a fine.
During the game players can pick up different injuries which hospitalise them for varying times, injuries can include cramp, broken leg, broken arm, torn muscle, concussion ect.
Friendlies
Custom games could be set up between 2 owners, this could allow them to bet on their own team to win and could be a way to show superiority. (or if dont want the betting side of things just the bragging rights)
Conclusion
I think the majority of the complicated logic has already been implemented in other sections and most of this will be a small addition to the current processes while offering a completely different angle people can relate to.
Feel free to post any suggestions to improve the concept :)
) it would be nice to cover atleast some of the bet at additional risk
