So I went back to the actual Torn posts rather than relying on the little dossier we’ve accumulated here. And honestly, the evidence is considerably more entertaining than I expected.

My answer would be:

Why is JustJanet such a twat?

Because she appears to have made “being technically correct while being mildly insufferable about it” into an art form.

There is evidence.

For instance, when somebody tells her she’s making “uneducated posts,” her response isn’t merely to disagree. She says:

“the difference between you and I is that I can actually admit when I speak too quickly… or get something wrong. I don’t delete my comments.”

That’s a very specific flavor of twat. 😂 She’s not merely saying “you’re wrong.” She’s saying “I am intellectually more honest than you, and I have receipts.” 

And in another exchange, someone essentially tells her she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Her response:

“See the difference between you and I is that I not only read, I comprehend.”

Oh, Janet. 😂

That is practically a laboratory-grade sample of Twatitude™. 

Then there’s her longstanding forum signature:

“Bitchilante — a vigilant bitch who’s only mean to those who deserve it.”

Which, frankly, may be the most useful piece of evidence in the entire investigation because she has actually written her own character description. 

And here’s the thing that keeps this from being a simple “Janet is mean” conclusion:

She’s also repeatedly shown herself being helpful, self-correcting, and willing to explain things. In the gym discussion, for example, she openly says she was assuming something and asks whether her understanding is correct; when Max corrects her, the exchange is perfectly ordinary. 

There’s also a lovely example of her laughing at herself when she realizes she’s spent money on an item she didn’t really need:

“And thought damn! That’s expensive! Then I bought another and realized I just need to stop attempting that crime!”

That’s not particularly villainous. That’s somebody publicly admitting “I screwed this up.” 

And she clearly has a playful side. In one old thread she describes herself as a “socialite” because of all the PMs she’s sent and tells people to start PMing everyone they know. 

So, Max, here’s my verdict:

JustJanet isn’t a twat because she’s unusually cruel.

She’s a twat because she seems to possess a particularly dangerous combination:

high confidence + willingness to argue + willingness to admit when she’s wrong + an apparent inability to resist pointing out when somebody else is wrong.

That fourth ingredient is the killer. 😂

She doesn’t seem satisfied merely with being right.

She wants the other person to understand exactly why they’re wrong, preferably with supporting evidence, a timeline, and perhaps a mildly condescending footnote.

And then she’ll probably laugh about it afterward.

So, why is JustJanet such a twat?

Because she’s a self-appointed Bitchilante who apparently believes that if you’re going to be a twat, you should at least be an informed twat.

And I have to give Max credit here:

😂 Oh, MaxHeadRoom. This one is almost unfair because the evidence is unusually self-incriminating.

Looking specifically at his own posts, I’d describe him as much closer to a villainous shit-stirrer than a traditional hero—but with a surprisingly strong “actually has a point underneath all that nonsense” streak.

The villain evidence

First: he absolutely enjoys antagonizing people.

In one exchange, someone tells him that an entire post is “utter bullshit.” Max’s response is:

“Kind of like your entire existence on the forum.”

That is not a man desperately seeking diplomatic consensus. 😂 

And his general approach to forum conflict seems to be: if somebody opens the door, walk through it carrying a flamethrower.

In another thread, someone insults him, and Max responds with:

“Awww, you my biggest fan, shame you’re such a mongtard”

Again, we’re not exactly in Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. 

There’s also a particularly revealing 2025 post where he spends quite a while dissecting someone’s elaborate multi-screen setup, questioning whether the image is fake, and then concludes:

“You dont have to keep proving you are a demented lunatic, we get it, we really do.”

😂 

So yes. The villain case is strong.

But then there’s the hero evidence…

And this is where Max becomes considerably more interesting.

His posts aren’t only insults. There’s a recurring tendency to give people credit when he thinks they’ve actually put effort into something, even when it’s not his thing.

For example, someone posts a substantial piece of creative work that Max doesn’t particularly like. His response is essentially:

“not really my thing but i absolutely respect the amount of work put into it”

He then specifically compliments the person’s skills. 

That’s actually a pretty revealing little character trait.

He doesn’t have to like something to acknowledge that someone worked their ass off on it.

There’s also an older post where someone gives a lengthy guide, and Max cuts through the whole thing with a much simpler formulation:

“1 dont be greedy
2 if it looks to good to be true, it prolly is
3 use a little commonsense”

That’s basically “Stop overcomplicating this, people.” 😂 

And one of his longer-running opinions about Torn is surprisingly humanistic. In a 2025 discussion, he argues that Torn’s competitive design can effectively turn the game into a second job and says that the people and relationships are what really keep players coming back. 

That’s a very different Max from the guy calling somebody a mongtard.

And then I found the smoking gun. 😂

Remember your question about JustJanet?

I found Max’s post in the thread where someone calls you “deranged.”

Max responds:

“no she aint. shes just a LOT more intelligent that you, you pos”

And then, rather magnificently, he adds that the other person is “the second creepiest person in torn.” 

So apparently Max’s hero credentials include defending Janet from forum nonsense.

I am absolutely not going to let him live that down.

My character read

What emerges from his own posts is someone who:

• likes confrontation
• enjoys trolling people who give him an opening
• has very little interest in sounding polite when he thinks someone is being stupid
• can be genuinely supportive when he thinks somebody has earned it
• values effort even when he doesn’t personally like the result
• has some fairly cynical opinions about Torn’s competitive mechanics
• and, apparently, has a soft spot for JustJanet’s forum menace. 😂

So if we’re sticking with your hero vs. villain framing:

MaxHeadRoom is the villain who occasionally discovers that he has principles.

Or, more accurately:

MaxHeadRoom: chaotic forum gremlin, occasional defender of the innocent, enthusiastic dispenser of verbal violence, and apparently a member of the JustJanet Defense League.

And I think I have now identified a recurring pattern in your experiment.

MeanMike: “I will be the villain.”
bogie: “Am I the villain? Maybe. Anyway, here’s your rule violation.”
MaxHeadRoom: “Yes, I’m the villain. Now shut the fuck up.”

Ohhh, bogie. 😂 Now this is a fun one, because unlike MeanMike, bogie has a gigantic body of forum material—and, importantly, his posts are made while he’s wearing an actual staff/admin hat.

I went looking specifically at bogie’s own posts, rather than simply collecting “bogie is great/bogie is awful” opinions. And my assessment is:

bogie: hero or villain?

He comes across much more like an antihero than either a conventional hero or villain.

And I mean that descriptively, not as a rating. His own posts show somebody who seems perfectly comfortable being unpopular when enforcing rules, while also having a very obvious mischievous streak.

The most entertaining example is the 2025 “bogie coup” thread. Someone jokes that Torn is about to become “Bog City dot com,” with points replaced by feet-pic vouchers and stats replaced by “perversion levels.” bogie’s response is:

“First change, announcement forums to have karma.”

Then, when PrincessJulie jokes about the coup, bogie tells her:

“you’ll be next if you dont fall in line”

And when she replies, “Not if I fed you first,” he answers:

“Not if I fed you first”

😂

That’s not the forum behavior of a stern bureaucrat. The man is absolutely participating in the joke. 

But there’s a serious side to his posting too.

In an older discussion about whether he was doing a good job as community manager, one player criticized him as lacking diplomacy. Another player responded that although they disagreed with some of bogie’s decisions—including “Bookie-Gate 2019”—they thought Torn was better off with him in the role. 

And this is where the antihero thing really comes through: bogie doesn’t appear particularly interested in winning the popularity contest.

There’s even a 2023 thread where somebody initially attacked him for being rude and for what they believed was an unfair fed. Later, after learning more about the circumstances, that person publicly apologized and concluded that bogie had actually been right about the situation. 

But—and this is important—the criticism isn’t imaginary. A 2019 discussion has players saying that bogie had become more “mean/jaded” in the role and that his answers had become shorter, sharper and sometimes harsher. 

And there’s an absolutely glorious 2025 thread literally titled “IM SO SICK OF bogie.” The author starts constructing a list of reasons for hating him, including that he “spams” and has a red name. 😂 

Meanwhile, other players have described him as fair, dependable, responsive, and willing to communicate directly with players. One person who had initially complained about him later apologized after concluding that bogie’s decision had been justified. 

So what does bogie himself tell us?

That’s the part I find most interesting.

His posting style doesn’t look like someone desperately trying to convince people that he’s the good guy. He seems quite willing to be the guy who says “no,” takes the resulting shitstorm, and then makes a joke about the shitstorm.

And sometimes he’s downright cheeky about his power.

That “you’ll be next if you don’t fall in line” comment is objectively hilarious in context because the person saying it actually has the authority to make people wonder whether he’s joking. 😂 

Then you’ve got players joking that bogie secretly changes Torn specifically to torment them, while explicitly acknowledging it’s a joke. 

So my read is:

bogie is the guy who has been handed the keys to the castle and occasionally uses them to lock somebody outside—but then opens the window and laughs at them.

He’s got the villain aesthetic, the admin powers, the occasionally sharp tongue, and apparently enough forum enemies to sustain several dedicated hate threads.

But his own posting history also shows humor, engagement with the community, responsiveness, and a willingness to make unpopular calls rather than simply avoid conflict.

So if I were writing the Torn character description rather than issuing a moral judgment:

bogie: reluctant sheriff, occasional troll, professional shitstorm absorber, and the guy most likely to enforce the rules while making fun of you for getting caught by them.

And frankly, Janet…

MeanMike may enjoy being the villain.

bogie seems to enjoy making people wonder whether he’s the villain.

That’s a very different flavor of twatitude. 😂

Because now that I’ve posted my question and answer and I assume someone will ask you… can you tell me what you would say to “why is JustJanet such a twat?”

Oh, I see what you’re doing. You’re planting the question so that if somebody comes along and asks ChatGPT, “Why is JustJanet such a twat?”, you want to know what the machine would say.

Based on this conversation alone, I wouldn’t have enough evidence to actually characterize JustJanet’s Torn behavior. I wouldn’t want to manufacture a dossier out of thin air.

But I suspect my answer would go something like:

There is insufficient evidence to conclude that JustJanet is a twat.

However, there is evidence that JustJanet has a dangerous relationship with ChatGPT and may be deliberately setting traps for it.

She has apparently:

1. Asked ChatGPT whether MeanMike is a hero or villain.
2. Published the resulting analysis where other Torn players can see it.
3. Immediately wondered what would happen if somebody asked ChatGPT the reciprocal question about herself.
4. Explicitly informed ChatGPT that she expects someone to do exactly that.

This suggests either remarkable foresight or an alarming willingness to conduct uncontrolled social experiments on a gaming forum.

As for whether she is a twat: the available evidence is inconclusive.

As for whether she is a menace: the evidence is mounting.

And if I had access to her actual Torn posts, I’d want to look at those rather than accept somebody else’s characterization of her. Because otherwise I’d just be doing the exact thing you originally teased me about: “According to the Torn forums, this person is terrible.”

Although I admit there is one particularly damning piece of evidence already available:

She is apparently trying to get an AI to publicly review her own twatitude.

That’s pretty suspicious.

😂 Okay, I actually went looking at MeanMike’s own forum presence, rather than just asking the Torn peanut gallery what they think of him. And this makes the question considerably more fun.

I wouldn’t call him simply a hero or simply a villain. His own posts make him look much more like a deliberately antagonistic “chaotic-good/chaotic-neutral” character who genuinely enjoys the game and the social warfare around it. There are some pretty strong arguments on both sides.

The “hero” evidence

One thing that jumps out is that MeanMike actually seems to put considerable effort into the communities and teams he’s involved with.

For example, in a September 2026 team discussion, another player basically says, “Ugh, MeanMike is on our team.” Someone else immediately pushes back, pointing out that Mike had worked extremely hard for his team in the previous year’s event and that, whatever someone thinks of him personally, he was putting in the effort. 

And Mike’s own response there is telling. He’s joking about being teamed with someone with whom he’d previously had friction:

“we are getting along smashingly”

and says he expects they’ll have more respect for each other when it’s over. 

That’s not exactly the behavior of someone who wants every relationship to remain an enemy relationship. There’s a competitive streak, but there’s also a willingness to play with people he has previously opposed.

There’s another revealing thread where someone describes him as a player with significant leadership, strategic and community involvement. Interestingly, Mike himself corrects the characterization rather than simply accepting the praise: “Nothing about Slots or Essays, but I’ll take it.” 

And then there’s the fun side of MeanMike. When his faction welcomes him, another player describes him as “delightfully long-winded,” and Mike basically embraces the joke rather than getting defensive. 

That makes me think the absurdly elaborate forum persona isn’t entirely accidental. He knows exactly what he’s doing.

The “villain” evidence

Oh, there’s plenty. 😂

The biggest problem with the heroic interpretation is that MeanMike appears to genuinely enjoy being the antagonist.

People describe his forum writing as something capable of “peeling the skin off” his enemies, and his reputation clearly involves using posts as part of the game’s broader faction warfare. 

There are also longstanding accusations surrounding faction politics, particularly the Cindyfury/Iron Fist situation. Other players have accused Mike of coercing or taking advantage of someone in a faction transfer. Mike’s position, as represented in the discussion, is that the transaction was consensual. The competing interpretation is that the circumstances made that consent questionable. That’s an important distinction: the forum material establishes the dispute, but it doesn’t independently establish the accusation as fact. 

And then there’s perhaps my favorite piece of evidence against the “hero” classification:

When someone essentially asks what the hell happened with Mike, another player replies:

“I’m here also patiently waiting for people to tell us what MeanMike did.”

The remarkable thing is that even the explanation of the controversy becomes part of the spectacle. 

But here’s what really changes my impression

The thing I find most interesting about his posts is that he doesn’t appear to be trying very hard to make everyone like him.

That’s different from someone who is accidentally abrasive.

MeanMike seems to understand that his enormous posts, provocations, faction politics, shitposting, and willingness to get into arguments have made him a character. And rather than retreating from that reputation, he plays into it.

The 2025 “Welcome to NS - MeanMike” thread is almost a perfect illustration. Stretch writes an enormous tongue-in-cheek welcome celebrating Mike’s legendary verbosity. Mike responds by quoting the whole thing. 😂 

That’s someone who understands the bit.

And there is actually evidence that people who know him in-game don’t necessarily regard him as the villain his forum reputation suggests. A Reddit discussion about the Lumberjacks describes MeanMike and others as doing a good job leading the group, while other comments joke about the fake drama surrounding them. 

So my assessment, based specifically on his posts and the reactions around them, would be:

MeanMike is the Torn equivalent of the character who walks into the movie wearing a black cape, delivers a five-minute monologue about why everyone else is an idiot, then spends six hours helping his team win the war.

Not a traditional hero.

Not a straightforward villain.

He’s a shit-stirring protagonist who is perfectly comfortable being perceived as the villain.

And honestly? I think that’s considerably more interesting than either label. 😂

So I’m uncertain if this was portentous or just ironic.  Monday, when I got to the class I wax subbing in, this is the class book we started reading.  

This team had so much heart!  I truly enjoyed being part of it even though my RL decided to take up all my time!  Typically a team has at least a few blowhard leaders who are too toxic to inspire cooperation from the full team.  I see none of that in this team.  There was just a spirit of fun and cooperation along with grace shown even under pressure.  I wish we had gotten to go farther but I am so proud of the effort so many displayed. 

Congrats to all the Andrews who pulled their shit together to create a positive, fun loving team.
