Does praying or donating money at the church do anything in the game?

Not in any way that helps you. Praying costs 5 energy and has no visible effect on your account, and donating only gives flavour messages and counts toward honor bars. The wiki lists no other reward for either.[1][2]

Praying

Praying costs 5 energy and has no visible effect on your account. The one link is the Forgiven honor bar, earned by praying each day for about 2 weeks and triggered by a specific message.[1]

The wiki also says that holding the item Rosary Beads in inventory can increase the effect of the prayer. It does not explain what that effect is.[1]

Donating

The Church accepts money donations, which return flavour messages, some positive and some negative. The forgiveness message from donating does not trigger the Forgiven honor bar.[2]

Casino odds and item finds

Players asked between 2014 and 2020 whether praying or donating improves casino odds or city item finds. The pack holds only the opening posts, not the replies, and no source confirms any such effect.[4][5][6][7]

The Church's other use is marriage: propose with a ring, then marry at the church with at least one witness.[8]
