Part I

There is no instant gratification in racing, just like everything else in Torn it will take a while to master. Most or All cars by now (except the bugatti) have individually been fully upgraded to the specs of individual tracks by top racers. There has been bigger diversity of cars in best lap global records then before. As more players experiment with different cars I think new cars may emerge as best lap records.

Safety items didn't do anything before or now. My crashes always rotate in the same exact order. 1st crash 3 upgrades lost, 2nd crash 2 upgrades lost, 3rd crash 1 upgrade lost, all safety equipment or none. One comment was they might effect the quality or point cost of the upgrade you loose when you crash but I would still get them last.

If there is any green on the track indicating dirt that means all dirt is best(maybe the way the coders made it?). The cross tires are useless and making transmission tarmac and suspension dirt or vise versa combinations seem to slow every car i tried different combinations on, on every track. Its either all dirt or all tarmac in this basic style racing sub game.

Turbo 3 is the better choice for 95% of the cars in all classes specially when you're starting out. Turbo 2 does have a purpose later in racing when you start upgrading individual cars for individual tracks but until you have progressed far enough to find any of the "part III" relevant I would recommend turbo 3 on all your cars.

All Tarmac: Adjustable Coilover Suspension, Paddle Shift Gearbox and Track Tyres
All dirt: Group N Rally Suspension, Rally Gearbox and Rally Tyres

There are only 6 choices of upgrades that determine long or short in the transmission upgrade options. Rally Gearbox's or Paddle Shift Gearbox's are the only 2 I would suggest you use on any car. Long ratio tracks are the ones with big straightaways and short ratio tracks are the ones with a lot of shorter lengths between turns.

Best single well rounded cars for maximum tracks for all lower classes in my opinion, message me for questions.

1)Volvo 850Class Eshort ratioall tarmacturbo 3
My best record in Speedway 00:32:35 RD_It is the record in all 3 long ratio tracks and with the short ratio option to best balance it out it is a top competitor on 9/16 tracks making it the most versatile E class car.
1b) If you wanted a second E class car I would get the Vauxhall Corsa turbo 3 for all the short ratio tarmac tracks and then set your Volvo long ratio for Withdrawal, Speedway and Convict.
2)Toyota MR2Class Dlong ratioall tarmacturbo 3
My best lap in Withdrawl 02:13:82 RD_
Top record in Convict 01:10:33 RD_
This is a car I had pre respo and it was record on all 3 long ratio tracks for the longest time after respo. It performs well on most of the tarmac tracks having good acceleration as well.
2b)If you want a second D class car I would get Honda Accord long ratio, turbo 3 all tarmac to fill in on the tracks that need better handling and breaking power.
3b)Honda Integra RClass Clong ratioall tarmacturbo 3
My best lap in Uptown with the R 01:20:60 RD_This car is very balanced making it a top performer on 25% of the tracks long ratio.
3) My best lap in Speedway with Z06 00:29:22 RD_The second C class choice is my original Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the same specs as the Integra R for Speedway and Docks as well as being versatile in many of the tarmac tracks.
4)Ford MustangClass Blong ratioall tarmacturbo 3
My best lap in Speedway 00:27:62 RD_Being the car with the highest mph always has it's benefits and thats the case here as well as performing well on most tarmac tracks.
5)The second car for class B would have to be the Sierra Consworth to cover 25% of the tracks using short ratio all dirt turbo 2 and this car will also be the top performer in Mudpit when you get to A class.

It seems by watching the races you can't learn anything unfortunately, the way certain cars get passed or pass others makes no sense sometimes. You would assume the highest mph cars would accelerate on straightaways and fall back on turns but no. The racing portion of the game I don't think is that sophisticated and the wins seem predetermined so, the actual race would be just for show.

In A class short ratios transmissions work better on some of the tracks that appear long ratio because of the insane top speeds they already have. In classes B and lower what appears long ratio usually is in my opinion.

Best 4 A class cars to own.

1)Ferrari 458Class Ashort ratioall tarmacturbo 3 tracks: Uptown, Underdog, Docks and Vector
I am still testing Ferrari (even know its one of the 1st I owned). When building my fleet the Ferrari turbo 3 won me most of my points.
2)Honda NSXClass Ashort ratioall tarmacturbo 3tracks: Commerce, Industrial, Sewage and Meltdown
When I had lower skill and was trying to perform 25% of the tracks with this one car turbo 3 seems to work better. Later on you can choose turbo 2 or 3 for this car depending on what tracks want the to perform best on. I would say Underdog, Commerce and Sewage are turbo 2 tracks for the NSX but stick with the turbo 3 being more versatile and only seconds different with either option.
3)Audi R8Class Ashort ratioall dirtturbo 3tracks: Parkland, Two Islands, Hammerhead, Stone Park and Mudpit
Like the NSX I would suggest turbo 3 to start, later on you can switch to turbo 2 when you no longer need this car to cover all 5 dirt tracks if you want to experiment turbo 2 on seemingly short ratio dirt tracks. The consistency of wins is higher with turbo 3. The NSX is better for dirt but the NSX is better for everything and the R8 was an instant winner to replace the NSX for dirt tracks.
4)Lexus LFAClass Along ratioall tarmacturbo 3tracks: Withdrawal, Speedway and Convict. (Docks alternative)
This car is the top dog on long ratio tracks and extremely competitive in any track with decent straightaways. Excellent handling on top speeds makes this car a excellent point winner.

Next car to get for point building and complete the set to cover all 16/16 tracks
5)Sierra ConsworthClass Bshort ratioall dirtturbo 2track: Mudpit

That's right! This is a way to pick and choose cars for similar tracks with similar stats. All the cars you listed atm have global records. Most of my test cars are similar to the global record holding cars in stats to replace the Ferrari, LFA and NSX for the tracks those cars are already in use.

As for the turbo, you can see in the racing section in forums the turbo 2 gives TOP SPEED + 5 ACCELERATION +5 OVERALL BENEFIT +10 and the stage 3 turbo TOP SPEED +7 ACCELERATION +4 OVERALL BENEFIT +11

I found in class A most all cars work best short ratio with turbo 3. Some cars with highest mph work best with turbo 2 like the GT-40 and Aston Martin One-77. Some tracks would realistically be best with turbo 2 but in Torn racing turbo 3 seems to be the best for many cars even the Ferrari 458 in tracks like Vector? Withdrawal and Speedway are defiantly turbo 3 tracks, I use the Lexus LFA on.
Next set of cars to consider after having the first 5 point winning cars working for you. These are for those looking to set records or have better cars for individual tracks.
6)[image: torn.com]Ford GT-40Class Along ratioall tarmacturbo 3tracks: Vector, Commerce and Docks (does well in sewage and meltdown short ratio turbo 2)
7)[image: torn.com]Aston Martin One-77Class Along ratioall tarmacturbo 3tracks: Uptown and Convict
8)[image: torn.com]Nissan-GTRClass Ashort ratioall dirtturbo 3tracks: Stone Park and Two Islands
9)[image: torn.com]Lamborghini GallardoClass A long ratio all tarmacturbo 3tracks: Uptown and Docks
1 track car for record setting (poor consistency best record setter)
10)[image: torn.com] Mercedes-SLRClass A long ratio all tarmacturbo 3 track: Convict
The GT-40 has better single lap time in Commerce and Vector but overall less of a winning ratio compared to 458 or One-77.
Mercedes SLR is milliseconds faster in Convict but less consistent to win so I would save points and use the LFA or One-77 until you have all your point earning cars maxed in upgrades.
Lamborghini Gallardo has better single lap time in Uptown but less consistent to win (without 30.0-40.0 skill) compared to the One-77.
The Galardo is cool but its one of the last cars besides the SLR I would suggest to own as there purposes are most limited.
Skill is the big factor but your cars also have to be geared properly. I'll sometimes loose 5 races in a row then win a race I forgot to select the right car for, it's sometimes odds and luck with the matchups to. Individual lap times can vary 15 seconds lap to lap on some tracks so know your average before making an upgraded and being surprised you didn't beat one of your own best personal times on the 1st race. I go by my lap time average to check consistency and test upgrades one at a time on about 500 laps. If everyone is doing it right your chance of winning also get divided.
Not knowing about respo and what it would do I wasted over 1,500 points on cars I don't need.
I totaled around 4,600 points total since I started racing more then a year ago.
I have been in around 4,500 races so far

More info and tips
1st 5 tracks listed here are the dirt tracks
I tested both the R8 and GT-R rally v.s. rally-cross v.s. dirt tranny and suspension combinations at the expense of several points to identify upgrades for these tracks. They are "all dirt" and "short ratio" despite the fact they look like there is only small amounts of dirt on the track, for some reason that's just they way it is. I used turbo 3 on these tracks with my R8 and SLR to get my current best lap times as of now. I did set my personal best lap with my Consworth turbo 2.
TrackImageInfoNotes
ParklandTrack Info: A large indecisive track through the center of the city which is kinder to cars with higher handling and breaking. It contains a tortuous windy dirt road which drivers have dubbed 'the noodle', mastering this section can be the difference between 1st and last place. My turbo 3 best lap record with my R8 beats my turbo 2 best lap record.
Two IslandsTrack Info: This track has you racing through the financial district, slingshotting around the coast of two separate islands. It demands considerable handling, "rally tires are recommended". This is the only track that suggest anything helpful to upgrading and it's accurate.
Hammerhead This large track with soft bends with favor those with better braking and handling. It's feature piece is a small island in the middle of a lake which is connected by two rickety old bridges. Optimising for the threatening scenic dirt path may be a wise choice. The NSX is the top competitive car on these 4 tracks. In this Guide the NSX is used for tarmac tracks so the R8 is the best to use followed by the GT-R. All short ratio, all dirt.
Stone ParkTrack Info: Torn is well known for it's legendary Stone Park race track. Designed by racing professionals and quotes as 'the perfect track'... It was carefully crafted so that it demands a balance of all statistics. My turbo 3 best lap record with my SLR beats my turbo 2 best lap record.
MudpitOne of only three official racing circuits in Torn, this rally track is very unforgiving to those who have not tuned their car for off-road use. 4 wheeled drive vehicles will probably have the most luck. You can't beat the Class B Consworth on this track. My turbo 2 and 3 best lap records are only milliseconds difference.
All the rest listed below are the all tarmac tracks
DocksThis sprint through the Docks has several long straights followed by harsh 90 degree bends. Freight and heavy goods vehicles are also commonplace for an unlicenced race event. This track requires a great deal of both acceleration and speed for the win. Riddle of the Docks, This is the only track that I am as far as 5 seconds away from the record. I have tried both short and long ratio with several cars. I believe this is one track that driver skill makes all the difference as the record holders have a skill of over 30.0 and more like 40.0+. The NSX even hit the records for this track showing its more about the acceleration then the top speed.
Uptown A simple yet slightly unnerving track in one of the richer districts in Torn including smooth bends of all shapes and sizes. Drivers will probably find speed and acceleration more rewarding due to the two lengthy straights and lack of hard corners. short ratio, all tarmac. This track needs high m.p.h. and fast acceleration. My best lap record is with turbo 2 One-77.
WithdrawlThis ginormous track loops around the bay and crosses both bridges to and from the financial district. With few tight corners, those with higher top speed will be more likely to come out on top.long ratio, turbo 3, all tarmac
Underdog A short and sweet track just outside of the official raceway with tight corners and tight straights, favoring cars with higher acceleration. A common unofficial track for drivers of all skill levels. short ratio, all tarmac
Commerce This short circuit in the shopping district requires an almost even balance of statistics. One side features a smooth, calm straight, on the other an unforgiving slalom. short ratio track, all tarmac
Vector Sitting just above the Docks, this track is filled with razor sharp corners but provides solace with a lengthy straight to end the lap. Speed, acceleration, braking and handling all play vital roles in this balance circuit race. My turbo 3 best lap record with my 458 beats my turbo 2 best lap record.
Sewage This drive around Torn's water treatment plant will surprise you around every corner. It features a vast array of different bends and corners, catering very well to cars with higher breaking. short ratio, turbo 2 all tarmac track
Meltdown Tear through this goliath power plant sitting on a peninsula of Torn's coast. Handling and braking will be required in order to handle the high-speed bends around the funnels and sharp corners.short ratio, all tarmac
Speedway Torn's official Speedway is built for not much more then pure speed and handling. Deceptively simple, one wrong move will totally wipe out your vehicle. long ratio, turbo 3, all tarmac
Convict This illegal street race ironically flies past the entrance of Torn's jail, and continues around to form a circuit. Due to it's four almost identical straights speed is the essence. My short ratio, turbo 2 One-77 beats my long ratio, turbo 3 LFA. all tarmac

He did mention the GT40 - it would have the same upgrades as the ferrari - short ratio, all tarmac.

As for the Audi - well considering it is replacing the NSX you would probably go with the same set up you normally would for an dirt-track NSX initially (eg. short ratio, all dirt except for rally-cross tires). In terms of what works best for a dirt-track Audi in the long run, well why not experiment yourself instead of expecting to be told by someone else?

- well about GT40 it isnt mentioned there (obviously RD wants to share his knowledge, just trying to make his manual better)

- some ppl work and dont have 16h per day for playing games

- TC racing isnt national secret, at the end ll everyone know whats the best for each track dont understand why u must talk so aggressive
Butters [34298]

He did mention the GT40 there:

Upgraded list of cars to own after testing, lots of testing still to be done.

1st 3 cars to upgrade you should already have if you raced pre respo.

Ferrari 458 (A Class)
short ratio, all tarmac
tracks: Uptown, Underdog, Docks and Vector.

! Ford GT40 has better time by milliseconds but use Ferrari and save points until you have all cars maxed in upgrades.

? short ratio Ferrari has better time then long ratio Lexus for me

It would be logical that a GT40 that is competitive with ferrari's on short handling-based tracks would also be short ratio, all tarmac.

As for the rest, meh I wasn't "talking aggressive" at all - it's a reasonable suggestion for you to go try to figure it out for yourself instead of expecting to be told, so you need to toughen up a little if you think I was attacking you personally in any way.

It's not like it takes hard work or "16 hour" playing days as you've suggested, just start off with the same setup in an Audi that you'd use for an NSX (short ratio, all dirt, rally cross tires) and keep an eye on how the it does on the different dirt tracks for you and tweak an upgrade here or there as needed.

Whether you do this over a week if you're racing a lot or a month if you're racing less frequently it doesn't matter as long as you keep track of your results - if you're lagging behind then try to watch a few races on the dirt tracks when they happen to see where the Audi is fast or slow and tweak away accordingly.

p.s. As for the snide remark about "having to work" - well my usual working week falls somewhere between 55 and 60 hours normally - I just check in regularly on my phone for a minute or so every couple of hours to train / race / do crimes (if I'm unable to log on from a PC or laptop).
AngryVGNerd [1530413]

Its believed that 100 lap custom races build skill faster, I think skill is based on laps not races. 100 laps in a 10 min wait or less to start gains more laps than the 10 laps average for an official race with the hour wait to start. The laps times you get in custom races also qualify for personal and global records.

I believe there will be more updates to racing as long as a lot of players are interested so, keep racing and who knows what events and/or rewards may come for competitive racers in the future :)

I was asked if drugs affect races. In all my experience no drugs do not affect the races. I always take Xanax for training and also always on a max alcohol cooldown so I'm rarely ever not on a drug cooldown. My winning ratio is always positive and I continue to beat my own personal records from time to time. I think it would be cool if there was an update were drugs or items could affect racing positively or negatively which would make things more challenging and interesting maybe we can hope for in the future. I always wait until I receive the icon showing I have a drug addiction before I rehab and never took more drugs beyond that so I can't speak for the real druggys of Torn. I did crash today after an OD but I'm not convinced crashes or lap times are drug related as they seem to me they are just random.

My short ratio, turbo 2 One-77 beats my long ratio, turbo 3 LFA. all tarmac

what i don't get is how the f**k can the Consworth beat the Subaru Impreza STI on dirt? subaru looks much better in stats, plus calls itself the "rally king" and "has trouble on tarmac" in its description.

Soon as get 265 points i'll fully upgrade it and just see how it compare vs the mudpit top times. or find someone close to my driving skill.

Also how the hell is the lexus better than the aston martin... on withdrawel? not too sure if i'm missing something or are people just going off the leader boards. aston martin with its significantly bigger top speed.
