Part I
There is no instant gratification in racing, just like everything else in Torn it will take a while to master. Most or All cars by now (except the bugatti) have individually been fully upgraded to the specs of individual tracks by top racers. There has been bigger diversity of cars in best lap global records then before. As more players experiment with different cars I think new cars may emerge as best lap records.
Safety items didn't do anything before or now. My crashes always rotate in the same exact order. 1st crash 3 upgrades lost, 2nd crash 2 upgrades lost, 3rd crash 1 upgrade lost, all safety equipment or none. One comment was they might effect the quality or point cost of the upgrade you loose when you crash but I would still get them last.
If there is any green on the track indicating dirt that means all dirt is best(maybe the way the coders made it?). The cross tires are useless and making transmission tarmac and suspension dirt or vise versa combinations seem to slow every car i tried different combinations on, on every track. Its either all dirt or all tarmac in this basic style racing sub game.
Turbo 3 is the better choice for 95% of the cars in all classes specially when you're starting out. Turbo 2 does have a purpose later in racing when you start upgrading individual cars for individual tracks but until you have progressed far enough to find any of the "part III" relevant I would recommend turbo 3 on all your cars.
All Tarmac: Adjustable Coilover Suspension, Paddle Shift Gearbox and Track Tyres
All dirt: Group N Rally Suspension, Rally Gearbox and Rally Tyres
There are only 6 choices of upgrades that determine long or short in the transmission upgrade options. Rally Gearbox's or Paddle Shift Gearbox's are the only 2 I would suggest you use on any car. Long ratio tracks are the ones with big straightaways and short ratio tracks are the ones with a lot of shorter lengths between turns.

Best single well rounded cars for maximum tracks for all lower classes in my opinion, message me for questions.
| 1) | Volvo 850 | Class E | short ratio | all tarmac | turbo 3 | |
| My best record in Speedway 00:32:35 RD_ | It is the record in all 3 long ratio tracks and with the short ratio option to best balance it out it is a top competitor on 9/16 tracks making it the most versatile E class car. | |||||
| 1b) | If you wanted a second E class car I would get the Vauxhall Corsa turbo 3 for all the short ratio tarmac tracks and then set your Volvo long ratio for Withdrawal, Speedway and Convict. | |||||
| 2) | Toyota MR2 | Class D | long ratio | all tarmac | turbo 3 | |
| My best lap in Withdrawl 02:13:82 RD_ Top record in Convict 01:10:33 RD_ | This is a car I had pre respo and it was record on all 3 long ratio tracks for the longest time after respo. It performs well on most of the tarmac tracks having good acceleration as well. | |||||
| 2b) | If you want a second D class car I would get Honda Accord long ratio, turbo 3 all tarmac to fill in on the tracks that need better handling and breaking power. | |||||
| 3b) | Honda Integra R | Class C | long ratio | all tarmac | turbo 3 | |
| My best lap in Uptown with the R 01:20:60 RD_ | This car is very balanced making it a top performer on 25% of the tracks long ratio. | |||||
| 3) | My best lap in Speedway with Z06 00:29:22 RD_ | The second C class choice is my original Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the same specs as the Integra R for Speedway and Docks as well as being versatile in many of the tarmac tracks. | ||||
| 4) | Ford Mustang | Class B | long ratio | all tarmac | turbo 3 | |
| My best lap in Speedway 00:27:62 RD_ | Being the car with the highest mph always has it's benefits and thats the case here as well as performing well on most tarmac tracks. | |||||
| 5) | The second car for class B would have to be the Sierra Consworth to cover 25% of the tracks using short ratio all dirt turbo 2 and this car will also be the top performer in Mudpit when you get to A class. |

Factory Car Statistics
Part II
It seems by watching the races you can't learn anything unfortunately, the way certain cars get passed or pass others makes no sense sometimes. You would assume the highest mph cars would accelerate on straightaways and fall back on turns but no. The racing portion of the game I don't think is that sophisticated and the wins seem predetermined so, the actual race would be just for show.
In A class short ratios transmissions work better on some of the tracks that appear long ratio because of the insane top speeds they already have. In classes B and lower what appears long ratio usually is in my opinion.
Best 4 A class cars to own.
