To Quote Ched:

"The release date is not fully set in stone, but to provide a time-frame, I expect anywhere between 3-8 weeks. We'll let you know of an exact release date soon."

@ OP, Give up I have.

Basically 99% of rants deal with a lack of information from the Devs to the community. Don't expect this to change.

I've tried asking for something as simple as http://www.torn.com/wiki/Changelog (which took me less than a day to compile back when I gave a shit about it and still wasn't 100% accurate as everything is second hand) and also put up a pointless suggestion thread about it which no one will vote for because really who cares about knowing when anything will come out when Ched just replies with "Soon" or "I don't think it's important, ect."

Anytime a slightly major update is suggested, expect it to take a year in real time. Anything less is a bonus, and expect delays.

It has only been just over 3 months since RESPO, so we still have a long way to go before we can expect something new if you were to follow my 1 year time frame logic. Patience and all that bs right?

Also has everyone even been reading the same "Announcements" I have? Most of the ones that promise new content never explicitly state a time frame because 1.) Ched hates to do this 2.) You're supposed to undersell and over-deliver as a dev. 3.)Ched is really bad at estimating the time it takes to complete projects given his resources.

Look at the progression of updates and there is no clear cut direction in fixing or pushing out specific parts of the game. After the re-post of the Attack system announcement you are talking about, there's been addition of more armor slots, items,a casino game,UI organization, a merit, and a Chat-room update.

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that updates don't follow a priority list or simply there is one guy who does the attacking system and everyone else just has to wait around fixing something else. Mind you each new thing adds a possibility of a new bug, and the cycle continues.

Bugs are a huge problem and have just recently been taken under control (yay!). But in hindsight a "Form" which players are forced to fill out before submitting bug tickets (as found in other games, which I also suggested) probably would have helped speed that process, but again whatever right?

On another note, in my opinion presenting information to the community has always been a huge problem for this game. I don't expect it to change unless an actual CM is hired/volunteers, you shouldn't either.

In the meantime feel free to join me on this pile of salt I sit on.

People say when you complain about this game is to quit but if you see a game in a slow death route you try and be heard

i subscribe and I feel my money is being wasted we all know the cash goes into chefs pocket and he says he pays half these people to improve the game and provide updates but either ched is cheap in paying or the people he hired are terrible either way we are getting screwed

APOLLO [862724]Torn owes us nothing.

Not sure I would agree with this (at least my opinion).

Truth is, people are funding the running and development of this game (Ched hides behind the donater moniker for legal reasons). If there are NO donations, there is NO game.

If the game supporters grow weary in waiting for all the promised updates, funds could dry up and Torn goes bye-bye.

So, think the do owe us something, if nothing more, better communication and announcements of what is happening and what/when stuff is coming. If there is 1 area that kills the community the most, it might be this one.

There's really nothing to inform you of at the moment. We're cracking through bug reports and preparing attacking release which is happening I think next week, or the week after if this weeks testing goes well.

Then after attacking, we launch our new landing page and start advertising.

Then when we get bugs to around 10-20 confirmed, developers can start moving off and working on actual feature updates. Like the warring system, missions and competitions.

So to get things clear work has no where near started on the new crimes, missions and warring system ?

Ched can't release new content until the bugs are fixed. Each new update will have bugs if he just released everything this place would be a cluster f**k of shit not working.

Be patient or come back in a year when it's all out.

So next week or the week after we should be seeing the new attacking system? I desperately hope this isn't another timeline that you will be hard pressed to keep. The last thing we need is another disappointment, all 200 of us.

Surely that is exactly what Dave originally asked for, a progress update, or am I missing something?

confused.com (but that doesn't take much)

Come on developers, get off of FIFA and get the new warring system in before the game dies

TL; DR ver Stop Trolling me Ched

(Serious ver.)

I know you don't think there's anything to report Ched, but simply chiming in on the game is a huge step toward dispelling the image that you and your dev team are doing nothing and should be done more often.

Everything you reply to is basically a promise you make to anyone who reads your posts and you will be held accountable regardless of whether or not its fair simply because that is the effect of the internet.

The pattern that happens right now is that someone posts a rant. Couple of people chime in giving their 2-cents, some trolling, some down/up rating, more frustration, and then it gets forgotten, rinse and repeat. Every other week there might be a reply by some staff or some sort whom vaguely addresses the rant, or if we are lucky you (Ched), chime in and post something that can be interpreted as an update (which is exactly what was needed in the first place).

The short reply of what you typed above is basically all that is needed and should be done every 2 weeks or at the very least after each estimated time frame to give a heads up of what is going on, especially if there are any delays. Before your reply if you had the intention of just not saying anything until a week after today, its basically giving the false impression that you are trolling them with the announcements

Updates and forum replying by you should be done proactively to address players, and only retroactively done on things like bugs.

I'm not expecting you guys to say sorry every time, just inform everyone of where things are on stuff you explicitly announce so we aren't just waiting, and waiting without any sort of response. It doesn't really matter if its a re-hash(or a simple update of the time stamp) of what you typed 2 weeks ago, just update it so we know you looked at it. Again it might seem stupid, and redundant to you, but from a players perspective since we aren't all privy to be "in the loop" and aren't mind readers its a very important and our only feedback system.

Your team is literally on the website everyday anyway so hopping over to post a thread should easily become standard, heck just have one of your "Helpers" do it on a mod only thread titled "Changelogs" or something every 2 weeks until all updates w/ RESPO is complete. It does not have to be a new announcement every time, just edit a single announcement / splashpage and highlight it green as usual so it trains players where to look to see the state of the game, since forcing someone to check all threads under announcements is already much too ambitious and inefficient. (its already growing to 25 clicks, think of new players having go go through all the crap)

For example, announcing a 3-8 weeks time frame, albeit stating that this date was tentative, then on top of that saying nothing until a week past what you "promised" will always turn into rant post simply because there's no feedback from you acknowledging the (obvious)fact the update is going to be delayed.

I want to emphasize that you (Ched) personally do not have to do this, any one of your admins/staff/volunteers/whatever could, as long as the message is consistently done and they aren't promising anything you don't agree to.

Funny thing is your reply here won't be read by everyone since, surprise a lot will probably just ignore this thread or not pay attention until the next rant thread pops up a week from now.

Story Version(for the bored as f**k folk)

You get a date with a girl, she agrees to go out with you, but is only available 8 weeks from now to this date. You think that's kind weird, but hey she's hot so why not wait you got nothing better to do. 8 Weeks later you show up 10 minutes early because you want to give a good first impression. You wait. 5 Hours later you decide to give her the benefit of the doubt and think, "oh she must have had an emergency so will be late" and decide to wait even longer.

You are stand there waiting on the sidewalk, for one week without a word from her. You begin to worry. Pigeons start to rest on your shoulder thinking you are a tree. Being the gullible fool that you are, it finally clicks and you finally realize that maybe she won't ever show up and start walking home. Besides after a week of standing in one place you are kind of hungry.

Just as you take your first step, you get a text, it's from her. It reads, "Hey I'm not gonna be in town until a week from now, maybe 2 weeks, maybe shorter if my friends are done play testing" You have no idea what play testing means for a date, but it sounds kind of hot. You are conflicted on what to do. You ask yourself, "Do I wait?"

You then get another text 5 minutes later, "I'll be there soon [] " it says. You are still confused.

The war base is beyond bonkers. Not sure how to update it properly, refreshing the page takes forever. Any plans to remake it? May have missed the announcement concerning it though.

No need to repeat the entire thing......

What you are asking for is what a professionally run game/website would have. I would be SO simple and go SO far with the Torn community, it is not even funny.

No one is asking for pin-point accuracy, however, saying stuff like X is in the works/being worked on and providing ZERO updates is infuriating to almost everyone. A simple, we are working on X, Y & Z, expect X to be out A, and so on. As the date approaches, provide an update as to we are on-track, behind, whatever, but SOMETHING would be WAY better than the occasional stray post buried in a thread. Update it every 2 weeks, or monthly, something.

It is the simple concept of sharing the rough schedule with the customers (aka, the Torn community).

Sadly, the missing link is understand that Torn is a business with customers. Instead, it is treated like the members will remain forever and continue to pour money into it. Some day, hopefully soon, the proper connection will be made and something will change. This has been asked for before and you see where it went.

Thankfully, there are enough people that think they can buy their way ahead and will buy tons of DPs to keep things afloat.

Any news on Companies? They've been hamstrung since way before RESPO.

I've not seen any posts similar to this for a while. This is the first I've seen for a long time - and I have posted in it. We've also made 4 announcements / updates in the last month, which is far more than pre-respo. It seems the more active we are, the more the community wants from us.

Regarding progress updates, I don't want to repeat myself. The previous progress updates still stand. When there's any progress to report, I'll report it. There's no point making a progress update before one of the biggest feature updates in Torn's history is released, especially when I don't have a dead-accurate release date. We still have a 10+ team working full time on the site, and if you check out the Bugs & Issues forum you'll see what a big chunk of them are doing.

Making posts promising you all the great shit that's coming... I feel like I've over-done it already and it's becoming a broken record. Setbacks, accessibility changes, priority back-end updates and bugs, delay features and updates, but I can't stand to keep posting about and promising the same thing over and over again, it makes me look like I'm making up stuff and over-hyping.

I've been trying to stick with the philosophy of "Under-promise, over-deliver", this is me attempting to under-promise.
Chedburn [1] Admin Developer

Here's 7 of the team which use this particular system. You can see right now they're mainly working on mundane bugs. I think the large majority of players wouldn't have any interest in this kind of stuff.

Two months ago, you stated this about the new attack system.......

"The release date is not fully set in stone, but to provide a time-frame, I expect anywhere between 3-8 weeks. We'll let you know of an exact release date soon."

It has been 8 weeks (almost to the day), no new attack system, not even an estimated release date. Is the attack system being worked on? Is it done & you are sitting on it hoping to clear up bugs (and mundane bugs at that?) ? Is the release of it planned? You promised a release date "soon", yet have under-delivered on that?

To be fair, I do appreciate the work that had gone into the bug fixing... I like that when there is a problem there is someone to sort it and usually it gets fixed. I just wish there was only a few people working on bugs so that when the bugs got to the 10-20 number you had already had people working on the new bigger updates rather than waiting until the bugs were sorted before starting the new updates (not sure if possible).

I really just made this thread to hopefully see where along the lines we were on the bigger updates, that being warring system, crimes 2.0 and company changes to see if they were started, testing, not started etc. as these are the things that are going to make a difference to our playing and give us something to do slightly differently.

Thanks for for the reply anyways, nice to hear from you as always :p even though not always what I want to hear.

Edit: sorry for grammar, writing on phone.

This is all well, and good to know, but you failed to mention anything concerning the changes to companies, as you have released part of it, but the rest you seem to not have mentioned anything about in quite some time now. could you perhaps lets us "directors" know what/when said changes are coming in to place, as i believe that with such changes we should be given time to prepare for them.

Thanks
