Karmageddon

I feel we have the right to voice ourselves as well as those higher up in the rankings..
What is your opinion on this whole thing? Does it affect you?

Personally, I believe karma is the same thing and should be accessible and achieved in any way, shape or form. Whether it's through travel thread, faction forums or by posting a quality post in GD; karma should be given. It's up to users how they gain it and what they write in forums, regardless of karma? It still should be gained imo. BUT, i can see where the idea and committee are coming from :)

There should be a merit for 1,000 karma :P

There wasn't one before karmageddon, but maybe there is one now. You'll just have to take their word for it. But really there should be one, because the VIP forum wasn't a great gift for achieving 1K karma.

This is a stupid update

It's just delaying the inevitable. If Ched really wanted VIP to stay exclusive he'd have made it so only the top 50 or 100 karma could use it, instead of an arbitrary finishing line like 1k

I flower posted to 200 and then decided to challenge myself and see if I could get to 1k by posting nothing but drivel for the most part, haven't posted since. Other people will do the same. Just be mildly amusing and you can get to 1k karma in weeks.

Karma isn't even a measurement of anything besides forum activity. You can't tell if these people post quality from their karma alone, look at Champion or Marlon, both of which shit talk and copy paste announcements and gif url's respectively

On top of that karma is gained by either helping users or making them laugh, who are we to say which ways are the right ways to help or amuse?

All of this said I look forward to the forum whining and controversy.

"haven't posted since" meaning in the travel thread. I think I did once but that was to test a mate's formatting while he was traveling without a laptop

The people on that travel thread provided a valuable service and were thanked for it by others via karma. I didn't use it and didn't get any karma gains from it but whoever came up with the idea to strip it appears to have a superiority complex about karma. I see little difference between that and getting a vote for answering a questions thread.

I disagree about faction forums as they were being abused and aren't moderated. You'd have to start monitoring them closely to prevent further abuse.

I can't see it being reversed after a 94% committee vote.

Karma has been a joke from the start, just delete it. I would rather see a useful thread then bogus hateful posts that is by the same karma farmers. I would imagine every yes vote was that of the "special VIP spam threads posters".

What a bunch of BS....You have those certain ones that make crappy, useless, troll, spamming threads just to get the B. S. Karma. They whine and cry in the threads when others get karma to. What difference does it make how "we" got our karma? I very rarely post in the threads. I mainly like reading here. You cry to get your way you bunch of babies....I just lost over 700, but I'm not mad about it, just frustrated the crybabies go running to Ched everytime they don't get their way.....

The people that participate in the flower thread already have their reward.
Definitely congrats on participating in a system that allows you to make more money.

But why should 3/4 of all karma in the game come from running flowers/plushies.
It shouldn't.
Ched designed it to encourage forum conversation.

Please feel free to actively participate in forum conversation if you want karma.
Insightful posts seem to get a lot of karma. Funny posts. Helpful posts.

I can't say that I care about forum karma at all, but I agree with Scootaloo's post.

If you want to make karma a measurement of credibility and less about who spam the most, it would probably have been better to change it so that karma is only rewarded n the Q&A forum. I'm thinking something on the lines of all those tech sites where the best answer is listed on top of the reply-section, based on votes from the readers who were helped by it.

But I don't think that the Q&A would actually be improved by that. Actually, I think it might have the opposite effect since it would attract the gif-rollers and spammers to a section they usually tend to avoid. So I'm not suggesting it, rather pointing out that most of us will never view forum karma as something credible regardless of which changes are made to it.

Better to leave things as they are and just accept that there is no such thing as good karma in a forum. Either you're an a**hole/troll, or you're not. And most people tend to recognize a rotten apple when they see one.
