Have you ever wondered if multis would be a problem if Torn had never actually MENTIONED them in the rules?

Like, maybe nobody would have thought to make more accounts if it wasn't illegal. Some people are just natural rule breakers so anything illegal, they feel compelled to do.

I'm interested to see where this goes, so have at it :P

Multiple Accounts

You are only allowed to have one account per individual. Players found to have multiple accounts also known as multis will have the main account banned and all other accounts deleted.

Pretty sure there's still be multis... and they would be allowed if it weren't in the rules. Having players with multiple accounts is not a problem unique to this game.

I'd think that all the things you can do with multiple accounts would be reason enough (e.g. free defends, extra money, etc.) I'm sure others could easily add some more reasons to the list.

I'd love to have a second account to try and play the game differently without either one interacting with eachother shame I can't :(

For some intertoob noob the concept of a multi may be completely out of mind and they'd never even consider it... Much like panty-less upskirt cheerleader pron... But, once they know it's a thing, it doesn't matter where they learned about it, if they want it they will do it, if not they won't, simple as that.

Would there also be no restrictions regarding transactions between accounts? That's probably the real problem, and it would be even bigger if multis were legal, wouldn't it?
Louis_de_Pointe [1963196]

I think the amount of coverage they get is far too much on the forums. Can we just make one thread and anything anyone has to say about them can be put there.
Mat-Senpai [952164]

If multis were legal, not that i would, but i'm sure there would be people with over 1,000 accounts flying to always 0 markets from flowers etc
i'm also sure slutting would become worthless.

there's a lot of good reasons to keep them against the rules.

On the other hand, in other games I have had 3-4 specialised accounts without theme ever interacting with eachother. Torn is slightly different gameplay-wise, so it wouldnt make as much sense but having one alternate account would be kind of nice.

People consider multis an issue because they're a simple thing to blame, in the grand scheme of things they are one of the easiest things to deal with and least damaging for the game. There are far worse things jist as rife as multis with much bigger impacts (RMT/phishing) taking up far more time and having a much larger impact... But as players are less likely to see this as it's very much behind the scenes they instead consider the issue of multis, which can be much more visible (and trust me... If it's obvious to you, it's obvious to staff, and infinitely more frustrating if they cannot be 100% certain)
Mat-Senpai [952164]

I know of games which now allow multiple accounts

torn is very different in that it's "time based" you can literally be the best by logging in 3-4 times a day for 5 minutes vs other games where you need to put in hours to become good - that is really the main difference i see.

It currently is very hard to detect script/bot runners for flower running and the like, making the multi aspect the only real detectable thing in terms of xfer and IPs - if it was legal, it would be hard to combat scripts and make another massive issue for torn.

All text browser games i have played have been crammed full of whining cheating crybaby multies. Most of them are pretty harmless because they are actually useless at playing games but there are a number of nasty hate filled little nerds who will be good at cheating and playing games and those are the ones that need splatting.

If you are sure someone is a cheater but they havent been dealt with just shun them, if enough people shun the nerds it might become a problem for them stopping them from doing everything they want in the game.

Your argument is invalid since approximately 99 - 100 % of those in federal jail claim they didn't know it wasn't allowed as they never read the rules.

Surely no-one would lie about stuff like this in federal jail :)
dunmugmeh [538353]

I can believe a lot of that, we can tell just from reading the forums a LOT of people who play this game do VERY little if any reading at all which to me is VERY strange in a text browser game.
