Monster Mafia

With Halloween just a few weeks away, monsters everywhere are making their final preparations. Sharpening their claws and dying their teeth yellow, doing whatever it takes to make themselves appear all the more terrifying. Halloween comes around once a year and for the monsters, it's a chance to live out their fantasies. They go all out. For the rest of the year, monsters are forced to live underground. Away from those who shun them. Their safety comes from the darkness. They scurry about like rats.

Halloween is their one chance to walk about freely.

This year, though, a problem has arisen. An infestation. People. Within their tight-knit community, they have outsiders. These Hunters, as they refer to themselves, want one thing: to rid the earth of monsters. They are disguised as monsters, they learnt the monsters' tongue and have spent a lifetime blending in with those they hate.

Over the summer they left warnings. Scrawling on the walls of the monster's den: NO MORE HALLOWEEN, NO MORE MONSTERS. A manifesto had even been found, written in newspaper cuttings, saying they would kill one monster each night starting from October 14th until Halloween evening.

It's up to you, the monsters, to find out who walks among you. You must vote for and hang those who you suspect to be against you. You win by eradicating the humans. They win by eliminating you.

If you are interested in playing. Please write your name in the thread along with a monster of choice you would like your character to be. We will have a role list with a few special roles, though I promise not to make it too crazy. I'd like a fairly large game, so the limit is 25 players.

Please send me a $1mil, refundable entry fee to show that you read and understood everything and you are committed to playing the game for its entirety. (Fee will be refunded when your game ends.)

Rules:

How the game works:

The game is played in two teams. The monsters and the monster hunters. During day time phases (24 hours real time) you all discuss in this thread who you think is not a monster. You vote in the thread and the person with the most votes at the end of the day will be killed and I'll tell you their role. During the night stages, only those with active roles may do anything. The monster hunters converse and choose one person to kill. No one except for the monster hunters are allowed to talk about the game off the thread at any point.

If voting ends in a draw, no one will die. Day will change to night and we'll all be disappointed.

Rules to follow:

- Please vote and unvote in bold.
- Do not edit a 'vote post' should you wish to correct anything you said, make another post.
- There will not be a rule about not voting, you may abstain from voting. If I feel that you've not been participating in the game correctly, though, I'll keep your entrance fee.
- Off topic posts are fine once in a while. Spam is not. If you're not contributing to the game, you can't play the game.

I will have the final say on anything to do with punishments or what have you. Most of you know me well enough to know I just want a fun game, I don't want to go full out tyrant. I have noted that some players alienate and annoy others in games just because they don't take them seriously at all.

There will be spooky random events and competitions littered throughout the game. Some might be introduced in code. Some might be very clearly stated. Please read what I write carefully.

Let's have fun!

:D

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Role list:

Monsters:

Vanilla monster: No special abilities. Win with monsters.
Detective: Chooses one person to investigate each night. I will tell them the role of their target.
Doctor: Chooses one person to protect each night. If their target is attacked, they will heal them.
Raging Monstrosity: Can choose one target in the game to destroy. One time use. Can kill friend or foe.
Monster hugger: Chooses one person to stop them from doing their action in the night. (They hug them really tightly while they sleep.)

Hunters:

Vanilla Hunters: Can speak at night time privately with other Hunters.
Hunting watchman: Can choose one target to watch. I will tell them who their target visited during the night (but not what they did there.)
Leader of the hunt:
Will communicate with me (the host) to choose who to kill. Will nominate which hunter will go.

Neutrals:

There will be at least one role that does not side with either monsters or humans. If we have many players, there will be more than one. Their roles will be a secret known only unto them.

I might add a few more roles as sign-ups continue but I don't want to get carried away with them really.

Dawn sighed heavily through the trees of Monster Forest. The sun crawled reluctantly over the horizon, spewing light over the dark, twisted trees. A few rustic buildings stood in the dark wooded area. The stone structures looked abandoned. Smashed glass resembling jagged teeth hung in the window frames. Nets made of vines clung to the green, moss ridden, walls.

They couldn't have been lived in... Not by humans at least.

In fact, they weren't. The inhabitants of this forest were monsters.

As the sun rose in the sky, taking with it the chill of night, the monsters oozed out of their houses. They lurched out into the crisp morning breeze. They slithered through the trees. They wailed out at each other, "Good morning, neighbour!' and screeched back "Howdy doody?"

They were vile.

A youngster found it first; In the corner of the forest, out by the pumpkin patch. He let out a little yelp, then a cry and then a full on howl. "THE GREAT PUMPKIN HAS BEEN DESTROYED!" He screamed at the top of his voice. Everyone dropped what they were doing and ran to his side. This meant trouble for sure. What, with all the threatening messages of late.

Sure enough, the carcass of the pumpkin lay on the muddy ground. Its innards had been spilled. They had been manipulated in such a way that they spelled out letters, these letters formed words. The words read:

"We will kill one monster each night."

That was all they said. It must have been the work of the humans. Stifled gasps resonated through the ranks of the monsters.

Voting began immediately:

Day 2:

Zila shimmered in the dark translucently. She was a hulking beast, though she still maintained the poise and dignity of a lady. A lady Godzilla beast, at least. She sat in the corner of the room, thumbing through a copy of A Guide To Spirits with her massive claws. The book looked comically small in her hands.

She was mulling over a chapter about reviving the dead. It read:

If you wish to revive a spirit, don't. It's dangerous and stupid. You're stupid for wishing it. We in no way endorse this kind of spell. Don't attempt anything you are about to read.

The first step is to focus all of your energy on the spirit at hand. Multiple people are needed for this step. They need not only acknowledge the spirit but believe it is living. They need to think the spirit remains in their realm and they need to intend to do it harm.

The first step is the most difficult.

The second step is for the spirit to declare its love for the one that will replace it in death.

The third step is a puff of smoke as the two switch places.

Finally there is an explosion.

Zila counted them off as she read. Two down. She took a big gulp of air or at least made the action that she would have made should she have been a corporeal being and stepped towards the middle of the group. No one seemed to care that they could see straight through her. They were clamoring for her blood.

"Kill that beast!" "Down with lizards!" "Rainbows are ok normally!" They chanted.

As they approached her, she sprung up in the air. It had begun. She felt an overwhelming tickling sensation engulf her, it started from somewhere in her stomach and grew, spreading within her. It became so intense, it was unbearable. She let out a panicked yell as the lasers in her eyes erupted launching beams of light around the room. With a small pop, she vanished. Exploding into a million brightly coloured pieces of sparkly glitter.

A hushed silenced filled the room before, with a loud crack , Zak the werewolf was hanging in the air in front of the group.

He had enough time to say "What's happen-" before he exploded with a massive boom, sending smoldering pieces of wolf meat flying down on everyone.

Zak died. He was a raging monstrosity.
Rainbowsaurus came back to life (but leaves the game a victor). She had been a hidden spirit.

Night 2:
The Great Pumpkin Moon looked out over Monster Forest. All seemed still and peaceful upon a glance but there was rummaging about in bushes. Hushed voices debating angrily with each other about where to go and what to do. Monsters peered out of windows and people hid in shadows.

The night air was cold. As he exhaled, steam filled the air. He was moving as quietly as he could but the heft of his body naturally lent itself to making sound. He wasn't a ninja by trade for a reason. He was more of a blob. He panted as he made his way down the path, despite the cold weather, he was sweating. His sweat mixed with the steam from his breath and nestled on his face making his skin go gooey.

He heard voices, human voices. He froze. Maybe they wouldn't see him. Maybe they would hear him. Maybe they'd just let him be. No such luck.

As it turns out, it's fairly hard to miss a massive blob sitting in the middle of the path.

"Hi" said the first human in a sinister voice. "Fancy seeing you here. I've got a message for you..." The human pulled out a bottle of foul smelling liquid and doused the poor blob before striking a match and setting the monster ablaze. Jonasty screamed as he died.

All the monsters found in the morning was a pool of black tar and a magnifying glass.

Jonasty was an investigator.

------------------------------------

As the monsters came out for day time, they put the pieces together and realized what must have happened. Horror struck their hearts. He'd gone in such a terrible way.

"Those humans are monsters." Someone exclaimed.
"No they're not." Another corrected.
"Well, no, not literally... but in the figurative sense." Said the first again, a little annoyed.
"They're so inhumane!" A third chimed in.
"Again, that's questionable," The second said, "We probably shouldn't use the word 'humane' to mean kind if we're monsters."

And so began the third day.

After a long while arguing about the correct usage of human expressions that probably didn't even exist in their language, they noticed something.

"Hey, where's zguy?"

The were-bear was missing. They looked about for him everywhere. In his cave, in the forest, down the ol' watering holes. No sign of him. Just when they had given up, a scream came from the pumpkin patch, similar to the one the day before yesterday. Everyone ran to see.

Sure enough, zguy was there. He lay mutilated on the ground. His stomach ripped open and his insides torn out. They lay in a pile next to him.

His body had no extra clues with it.
Zgreek was a vanilla monster.

Was there another killer in town?
------------------------------------------
Day 3
The Mothman stood in silence. The entirety of Monster Forest, it seemed, had voted against him. He'd had a long life, he'd worked hard, played harder and things had finally started to settle into place. He'd taken up sculpting recently. Using the soft clay from the forest floor to make rabbits, deer, badgers and other woodland creatures. He'd been content.

On the outside anyway.

He walked towards the crowd facing him. He didn't need to say a word. His bulbous bug eyes had a sad expression painted on them. He raised his arms/wings out to the side and just waited.

One of the larger beasts grabbed him first, raising his frail body up high from the ground and dangling him from his leg. A few odd things happened then; The first thing being the Mothman's head fell off, swiftly followed by the second thing. A small human fell out of the Mothman. It fell down to the floor in a crumpled heap, lifted itself back up to its feet, dusted itself off before awkwardly waving and saying, "Hello."

The Monsters didn't waste a second. They pounced on the human and tore him limb from limb, rib from rib, internal organ from internal organ. Very soon, all that was left of the human was a clump of hair that the manticore was coughing up.

It wasn't until quite a while later that they found the human's notebook. They realised with glee that this had been the leader.

Ceb was dead. He had been The Leader of The Hunt.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Night 3

The sun came up over Monster Forest. It had been a very uneventful night. People had solved the riddle left for them very early on in the evening and after that most everybody seemed to stay in bed.

No screaming, no begging for life, no gigantic blobs set on fire.

Everyone left their holes and houses refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Everyone except for Scootaloo that was. Scoot was dead. Dead as a door-nail. Perhaps there had been one murder after all. Scootaloo's body was still hugging their pillow tightly. Their head was inside one of the monsters' bellies.

Scootaloo was a hugger.
-----------------------
Day 4

?Everyone headed back to their holes and houses. The sun had set and the breeze was crisp. The night air hung silently around the forest, nothing stirred.

Until, that is, there was a massive scream which only lasted a moment before it ended as abruptly as it came.

Everyone ran out of their houses and found a pile of hair and clothes. A ghost costume. Lying next to it was a human, body shattered on the ground. Its throat had been ripped out. Everyone grinned big, toothy grins. So much so that they couldn't see who had killed the killer.

Vala had been a human all along.
------------------------
Night 4

Sweettiffy slept happily in her bed. Tonight marked a special day for the beautiful, wart-less witch. It was, yet again, her 29th birthday! She had a nice glass of wine before she settled down in bed for the night. She was excited about what another 29th year would bring, starting tomorrow. Her bed was warm and it wasn't long before she was dreaming about happy penguins falling over.

Tiffy was one of the few monsters who lived in a house. The little wooden building was cute. It had two floors, each with only a couple of rooms in them. The old wooden floors lay bare, heated by magic.

The floor creaked. Tiffy slept on. Creak, creak, creak. Someone was coming up the stairs. Creeeeeeeaaaak. The door to Tiffy's room opened. The creaking human took a moment to look at Tiffy's peaceful face as she slept. It was almost difficult to raise the pillow and smother the beautiful witch.

Almost.

In a scratchy hand, the human scribbled a note and left it next to the restful corpse. It read, "Age usually comes before beauty. But it'll have to be the other way around this time."

Which seems a lot meaner when you know it's actually swettiffy's birthday today! :P

Sweettiffy was a vanilla monster.

In the morning the monsters found pieces of body lying about in the forest. They seemed to have been torn apart, seem by seem. Chunks of gloop and gunk were splattered on the trees.

A powerful monster must have done this.

Everyone realised, aghast, that this was the remains of Lady Frankenstein.

BraveKath was a vanilla monster.
-------------------
As the afternoon lingered, clouds gathered over Monster Forest. Those dark, insulating, type of clouds, laden with snow. Silently, as all the votes were being counted, white ice floated down to the ground around the monsters' feet. The snowflakes danced on their descent with the yellow, golden leaves that had been bewitched by the Autumn breeze. There was a reason monsters naturally felt drawn to this time of year.

J the wendigo lurched forwards, his long legs crackling as they straightened and flexed, transporting the monster in space. He stared at the faces of those around. Fierce, hateful faces. Faces without a trace of love. Faces as cold as the snow falling around them.

The wendigo looked up in the air, pulling a great lungful within himself, and screamed, a primal scream. The sound was the electricity in a thunder storm, it made everyone's hair stand on end. The beast's chest welled once more. All those around him braced, ready for the awful sound. It never came. In its place there was pitiful rasping and coughing. With a great shudder, the beast dropped to its knees.

"You fools," It managed to say, through shallow, painful breaths, "I was the only one standing between you an-"

Halfway through the sentence, the wendigo passed away. Its frail body looked so much thinner, slumped there on its knees, with the heavy snow settling on its back.

DogHead had been The Embodiment of The Great Pumpkin.
--------------------------------------
Ruby was tired. She'd not rested properly for nights on end... On top of that, she'd spent her days in the sun, trying to figure this mess out. She hadn't been eating properly, living off a diet of red wine and red skittles. Any vampire will tell you, that's not the sign of someone with their life in order. This last week had been like she was back at university but with a bit more emphasis on decision making.

Once again, as night came, Ruby packed her bag and headed out into the forest. Being a vampire had its advantages and one of those was an intimate knowledge of anatomy. She knew where all the major blood vessels were in most living beings, she had some tricks in how to close wounds and if she was lucky, she could get a bit of blood for herself without any of the usual guilt. It made logical sense that she'd fall into the profession she did. Was it unprofessional to feed off your patients while helping them? Possibly. Was she likely to cause more harm than good when she did that? Probably. Did the possible ramifications of such actions keep her up at night wondering how she became such a horrendous monster? No.

If she hadn't been so tired and hungry, she would have noticed the footsteps behind her as she walked towards her patient's house. If she hadn't been so tired and hungry she would have reacted much more quickly once hands grabbed her shoulders. If she hadn't been so tired and hungry, she would have probably stopped the knife from entering her chest and striking her heart.

As it was, she died.

The humans who killed her left a note by her body. It read "We are sad and miss man's best friend. He served us well. RIP Fido.
Still, on the plus side, we are pretty sure this one knows how to use an sfk".

Ruby the vampire was a doctor.
-----------------------------------

Six, the great dragon, lay comfortably on the ground. His head resting on his tail. "Lmao I dug my own grave with that voting mistake, so my fault. Good luck townies." He said. Like any powerful dragon worth its salt, his voice was booming and his accent was British. His breath was hot and wet and he somehow made everyone in the forest feel it.

Despite his size, despite the fact they'd all seen him breathe fire multiple times, despite the fact he could bloomin' fly; they still thought he was a human. He'd only voted for the human who had dressed up as a ghost before she was killed. It made perfect sense.

"So be it," he said, disinterested, "Get it over with."

The monsters all looked uncertainly at each other, before approaching the dragon. It took them an awkwardly long time to get through his scaly armour. It took so long that the dragon decided to help. "If you go for the armpit, that's probably your best bet in honesty. I mean, my throat and eyes are weak too, but you might just enrage me that way. Nah, go for the armpit. Yeah, that's it, get your claw, yup, put it here, no push here! Push! Come on, stronger than..."

They were his last words. The dragons heart was punctured by the monster's claw.

Six the dragon was a vanilla monster.
--------------------------------------------
Having planned out this kill for the longest time, the human's bodies tingled with anticipation. They'd had so much time that they even googled 'how to kill a witch'. One of the first results was a description of an item called a "Witch bottle". Basically, all you had to do was piss in a bottle and then put a load of things in the piss that would damage the witch. You bury the bottle somewhere the witch will go and somehow that will... do something?

Pissing in bottles was these guys' forte. They literally lived inside monster costumes. One had to relieve oneself somehow and if that somehow was pissing in a bottle, one jolly well would have to do it! Step one of the witch bottle was very much complete. Step two, the things that would damage the witch wasn't terribly tricky either. In Monster Forest there were tonnes of sharp sticks, snapped off claws, rusty nails and poisonous bugs. Each one would have done it, so they collected a few of each and dropped it in the urine. Step three was to bury it somewhere the witch would go and they knew she wouldn't be staying at home tonight, so they just buried it in her driveway.

Daisy set off to do her investigations. She opened the door to her house and walked a few steps down her driveway.

A massive explosion blew her body apart.

Daisy had been an investigator.

-------------------------------------------------

Pinkiepie was a horse. A horse that could walk and talk and bake cookies and cakes. By all technicalities that made a monster, right? If the definition of a monster was a fictitious beast that was scary or at least bordered on being creepy, then yeah, Pinkie was a monster. At least, a talking pony is a monster...

Pinkiepie stood in front of the crowd. They called for his blood. He shouted 'neigh'. He put forth epic arguments. He tried to sway the monstrous voices to follow him, or to stop following other people at least. Alas, at the last minute, quite a few of them did. The votes swayed course and he had the majority.

Pinkie panicked. The front half of him ran forwards. The back half of him ran back. With a great ripping noise, he tore in half. His body fell to the ground and the two humans who had been wearing the horse-suit stood up straight, cracked their backs, said 'ooooffff, my poor back' and then got torn apart by rabid beasts.

Pinkie had been a human all along.
-----------------------------------------------

?"Get Limestone, he's a human!" Came the cry from the monsters.
"No I'm not," Yelled Limestone, "I'm a skookum."
"What's a skookum?"
"Well, it's like Bigfoot but..."
"Bigfoot's fake, you dullard... Kill him, he's human."
"What do you mean Bigfoot is fake? He's my mate's uncle" Another monster chimed in.
"Bigfoot is everyone's mate's uncle..."
"Yeah, that is true everyone knows someone who says they know Bigfoot."
"Yeah, Billy from school used to say Bigfoot was his neighbour"
"Sally from down the road said that he was her sister's boyfriend."
"I heard that in real life, his feet aren't even that big." All the monsters were joining in now.
"Yeah, I heard that they're average at best."
"My mum said he has one big foot, like a snail."
"Snails don't have feet..."
"Your mum is stupid."
"Woah, woah, woah."
"Don't say that about my mum."
"Yeah, don't be harsh about his mum, she's well pretty."
"Haha, yeah she is."
"Yeah, agreed there."
"Come on guys..."
"Sorry."
"We were talking about skookums."
"Yeah, his mum's skookum!"
All the monsters laughed.
"No, guys, come on, stop it."

This carried on for a while until Lime got too annoyed and just took off his mask.

"See, he is a human! Get him!" They all shouted before they tore him apart.

Limestonepie had been the human watchman.
---------------------------
Night 9:
Blobby likes pie. Blobbylikespie. Blobby. Likes. Pie.

He had an obsession with pies. He ate a pie for breakfast, a pie for lunch and three whole pies for dinner. It wasn't healthy and he knew that better than anyone, but every monster had a vice. Blobby used to be called bobby until the pie abuse. It started with the children calling him names first, then everyone caught on. It was cruel. Everyone knew he was a minotaur, but they all called him a blob just the same. Perhaps his physic was not as well toned as it used to be, but a blob? It was mean. Blobby was used to monsters being mean to him though.

He packed his kit and left his cave. He squeezed his body through the entrance even though it was very literally cavernous. Waiting on the other side was something small. Well, small for a monster. Regular size for a human. Blobby opened his mouth to call out and just as he did, the human stabbed the obese minotaur with a sharp stick. Blobby's rolls pffffftttffffttttpfffftt-ed as they were punctured. His pack fell to the ground, mixed in with all the pies were medical supplies.

Blobbylikespie had been a Doctor.

------------------------------
EGG the cyclops was crying, though you wouldn't have known by looking at him. His massive eye stayed dry and his face was fixed in that same gormless smile it always wore. He was very happy for a cyclops, everyone had always complimented him on his cheery disposition. Whether he was celebrating the death of an enemy or mourning the loss of a friend, he wore his bold smile.

The town named him one by one. By unanimous vote, he was the one to be executed. Tears fell freely down his cheeks. His great plan had been thwarted.

The monsters enclosed him in a circle, shrinking slowly, marking his doom. Egg's hand reached up to his hideous face and he tore away his mask.

The monsters gasped.

"He's so slimy!" One shouted.
"Ew, put it away." Another added.
"Why's his face so wet?"
"I thought one eye was bad enough..."
One of the monsters just vomited and couldn't say anything at all.

Through their disgusted expressions, the monsters managed to slay the last surviving human.

And so the monsters won the fight and had a perfect Halloween. The Great Pumpkin looked on from above, smiling to himself. His lesson had been taught, the monsters had heeded his warnings and had worked together in harmony. Nay, in unison. Some say on a cold and quiet night in Monster Forest, The Great Orange Deity can still be heard laughing away to himself. Sometimes the wind itself calls out to those who hear it and says in a creepy whine, 'Destroys is a bit of a dick sometimes...'

Kuro [1958127]

Oh ME! I want to play! Is it okay if I'm not here for two-ish days or so? I'll be boarding a flight sometime this month. xD

I'm Harley.
TiffRocks [862905]

CatHead [1581564]

Yeah, it's fine. I'll make a post about rules in a while. I don't think I'll do a "don't vote and you're dead" rule. I think I'm going to let what happens happen.
EscapedGoblin [1849481]

Count me in, although I clicked the travel button before reading this thread. So money will be sent in about 4 hours.

I'll be EGG - The lovable (yet hideously old looking and bearded) cyclops.
Ruby [1260826]

Hi!

I'll be Ruby the vampire. 2688 years old, don't combat my wisdom. Also don't even think about joking about my age, I'm still a lady and I'm sensitive, I'll bite you.
