This whole situation looks like a Mexican Standoff.. Ched can't go back on his actions, neither can Marc.

Recent events in torn have just been completely ****ed up, I'm an unknown player I don't know many people on the game and I don't speak to many people on the game so I like to think I have an unbiased opinion on a few of the things that have happened.

In regards to Midknight the rules were very clear and they were clearly broken, the sentence for breaking such rules were clearly stated. The reason people are getting so annoyed about it is because he was a well known player, had I of committed the same offence and received the same punishment not 1 person would have jumped to my defence, people would have looked and seen I broke the rules and was therefor punished and that would of been the end of it. I'm sorry but some people need to take a step back and look at it from an outside perspective. I didn't know the guy and I have no affiliation with SA so this is nothing personal this is just my opinion on what happened.

Now to Diva, If she made an innocent mistake then I feel really bad for her, her reputation and quite possibly her enjoyment of the game have most likely been diminished due to her name coming out as the staff member who made this error, everyone at one point or another ****s up but to have everyone gather round and point the finger in the way which this thread has went it's a bit out of order but in saying that not everyone is perfectly capable of doing every job so if Diva struggles with the job then perhaps the job isn't for her. Again I have never spoken to her so this is an unbiased opinion. Also if it was an intentional act then the only reasonable solution is federal jail for 999 days, that is up to staff and ched to decide whether it was an accident or not and they have made that decision.

Marc, I agree with transparency and would like to see more of it when it comes to staff and federal jailings, I'm glad you created this thread I do feel we should be aware of things like this it's just a shame that Diva's name came out which I know wasn't you who dropped the name. I would like to know why you and other staff members stepped down I feel it's in the public interest to know this but I understand some things can't be said publicly but when Ched announces he wants a more democratic feel to rules and to the game I feel its a bit hypocritical for the public to be kept in the dark but I understand that you for the time being can't say why due to no doubt getting yourself sent to fed.

Ched sort this shit out, the rules of the game are fine as they are, they aren't archaic and personally I feel there is no need to even discuss it with the public. The rules are clearly set out, the punishment for breaking those rules is clearly set out if people choose to break these rules they need to be punished, the vast majority of players don't break the rules and still enjoy the game. You say you want players to have more of a say, you say you want a more democratic feel to it yet the people you want to help make some of the decisions i.e the players are still being left in the dark.

This. What'll we all have to show for all this time spent if one day the plug gets pulled? Tell our grandchildren about how we used to worry about an online game? How we used to refresh the jail for hours on end to try and bust someone etc? Sure, some people spend rl cash for donator status etc. I have too, but I'll play the game regardless as long as I still enjoy it

Since you didn't listen to me when I was admin, why would you listen to me when I'm not admin? I created this thread because it's absolutely not okay to hire someone who was fired for incompetence (especially where it comes to account security). This thread has proved that the community is not happy with this action.

You want transparency, openness and democracy? Well, this is the only way to get it - by telling the community your decisions and debating it with them. Me contacting you directly would only result in a negative response, as you've publicly given in this thread (and to Phantom who sent you a video of the same staff member disclosing information about specific player accounts, which you've basically ignored).

This thread is 100% in the best interests of the community and Torn itself. I honestly don't see why you don't think so.

I've not provided any information about how the verification process works specifically, and to think Torn players cannot understand how the very basics of verifying accounts work (e.g., if it's your account, you can prove it, therefore you get the account back), is actually very narrow minded of you and will alienate players.

You need to rethink this decision, and actually take into account the facts (including the video Phantom sent you), not the panel of Diva's friends and other staff members. That's a ridiculous way of hiring someone.

It's almost as if you let it happen like this so you could swoop in and make Marc look bad at the end. Don't blame you for doing so, like you said, you love the drama and Marc started it, but don't try and come off as the bigger man here. All this has done is cause more confusion (like you said) and fueled further anti staff sentiment... There is no way that this thread can be spun in a positive light.

And I thought it was always said that "Marc was against Transparency".

Marc, have you seen this video or even the chat logs? I don't think it needs to be public, but if someone can confirm the validity of it...

I've seen the video, yes. I saw it yesterday so I could not confirm if the accounts actually had notes on them (and what was in the logs was correct). However, the modified timestamps of the file was in February 2016, and there's no way a non-staff member could type those logs due to the way it was written (and then copied into IRC) because of what staff use (e.g., Note sent to x []'s record and x needs $x removed, etc).

If I received this when I was admin, and could confirm that the notes provided matched what was on the IDs mentioned, I would have immediately deleted the staff member. Chedburn and the "staff panel" should look into this video seriously and validate the content of it and take the appropriate action (the only appropriate action if this is correct is deletion).

I understand this is a hot topic with a somewhat heated debate with good discussions here, along with the usual rabble rabble rabble....

I certainly appreciate the info and details provided in all these recent threads relating to staffing, player reports, abuse, fedding, etc etc. For many, myself included, awareness is a great thing, and more info the better. One can (or has the opportunity) to make better decisions about certain things with more info. For others, ignorance is bliss, and they wouldn't care about much of all this stuff.

However, I think that this kind of stuff in all reality affects less than 1% of active accounts directly or on a personal level. It's mostly drama between actual people and players and characters and rules and policies. Yes, again, it's great to have more info, to have conversations, to allow players to have input, to have responses from admin/peeps in charge, and to know that changes are in the works or that things are getting discussed to make things better. But yeah, all drama. This kind of stuff isn't going to affect the masses in a major way. On the whole, It's not going to make people stop donating, It's not going to make people stop logging in and spending time here. Yep, some individuals will log out, and some will stop their subscriptions or donations, or continue to spread bad thoughts and projections on the future of torn, but in all honestly, torn life will go on just as it does. Players will come and go. Some things will change. Some things won't. La de da la de da.

1% of active accounts is 200 people, that's 200 too many. Any account affected by security issue is one account too many (whether that be a game, social media or bank account.)
