It may be a crime-based game, but it's text-based. When you do crimes or mug people, you don't really think of it as actually doing that action like in real life, it's just a theme- just like themes in a Mafia game. Besides, how many people actually read the text for crimes/missions etc. when clicking?

In contrast, in video games you are kind of immersed in a simulation of the actual thing- the focus is on your actions and the "thrill" of those actions. On torn, ultimately we are just clicking buttons to make numbers go up. The text/reasons behind the clicking is a nice backstory, but not really the point of it.

i wouldn't say that Torn itself should be looked at as a "adult" game tho. it didn't even take the first page here for some player to type dick pics in reference to being "adult". xD

Torn is in a thick grey area with this situation. i think our adults here need to set a example for the younger players, instead of feeding into it. a 40 year old and a 13 year old DO NOT need to be sitting around in chat typing sexual innuendos to each other. that is creepy in my opinion. seems acceptable with alot of players here, but it's not in my world. if i mention anything about it, i'll get shit on for it because some citizens think im being "too serious".
