Ok, I'll give you props there, no truer words have been spoken. The problem is, with people who have lives where they have to work to get by day by day...they don't have time to find the truth, they'd die before then.

Forgive me for playing catch up here.. had to work this morning so haven't had a chance to hear about any news.. But is this in response to Trump imposing more sanctions against them for the missile testing they we're doing??

Surely this would have to hurt them more than it would us.. I can't say I recall us getting any of our oil from Iran, or much trade of anything for that matter, so hows it supposed to effect us if they drop our dollar?

Forgive me i'm not an economist.. []
Hades [1728299]

It will hurt the US for sure. Having the dollar as the word trade currency is a huge advantage. Its not really in retaliation to Trumps ban though. They have been moving to do this for a long time now. The ban just sped it up. The dollar will weaken more and more the more countries dump it and move to other currencies. A strong dollar is what keeps the US ontop. This will ahve a ripple effect down to the working man. The federal reserve will have to issue more money driving the dept up more. Inflation will rise and all the shite.

Surely there's some counter measure we can take though.. & just because Iran is dropping our dollar doesn't mean everyone else will.. I can't see Trump just taking this as an ohwell type of response..

You could give them some good old democracy. The last 2 times this happened the US went to war.

Its becoming a trend now. There are a good few other countries moving in that direction now too. If Iran fairs well I can see more dropping it and then it will domino.

No country in the world can win a str8 up war with us.... let alone ANY middle eastern country. Iran is flexing at the wrong time... they should have done it when Obama was in office. I actually can't wait to see them finally get put back in their place.
HILL-FOR-HELL [2017636]

"Flexing". You call Iran's sovereign right to carry out military drills as "Flexing".

Guess what, under Obama, Iran never stopped "Flexing". Because Iran has every right to carry out defensive maneuvers just like every other country on the planet does as long as it abides by international law.

Maybe America should stop "Flexing" as well. Then maybe Iran may stop as well.

and we have every right to play survival of the fittest and squash them like the roaches they are

I feel like the USA has been too kind and generous to certain countries for past 8-10 years... think it's time to show the world what's up in a sense... show them our real power... remind them who is "king of the hill"

The US would then be fighting multiple un-winnable wars overseas against guerrillas who know their country a lot better than the foreign soldiers and have the added advantage that they are fighting to safe their home. If you invade a country and incur the wrath of the populace then you need to treat every single civilian as a threat, because they can become one easily with a glass bottle and some gasoline.
IN_COLD_BLOOD [1613784]

you're thinking too simple - why would we send over troops, when we can just attack them with drones and cause civil wars like Obama did? War is not the way it used to be. Our technology is so much more superior than theirs. Their regions are already destabilized - we pick the side we want to win and put in power to work with us, and we help that side by arming them, and helping with logistics and bombing the shit out of the opposition. This is how modern wars are fought.
HILL-FOR-HELL [2017636]

So you want war? For absolutely no reason.

Good. Then don't complain when people from Islamic State start bombing your country. Don't bitch and whine. Because according to you, killing is a game.
IN_COLD_BLOOD [1613784]

People come here because they want a better life, with more freedom or so they say. Really they just want to spread their bullshit culture and take the entire world back to the stone ages where they are in charge and the extreme version of their religion is the only thing that holds true. This world has always been kill or be killed... you have such an innocent, naive mind. It's all about money, power and resources. Every single war ever has been about exactly that. This is no different. Why let our enemies become more powerful than us when they cannot be trusted. If they don't value life, than how can you trust that they won't try to beat us down when they build up enough military strength?

Unfortunately you are 100% correct.

We have always lived in a world where military might is the only way to maintain peace. Believe it or not, we have been in a state of relative peace since the end of WW2 purely as a result of the Arms race through the 50s - 80s. If the USA and USSR had not built such large, technologically strong forces then I have no doubt we would have had WW3 a long time ago.

Instead of such large scale wars all we have had are relatively localised conflicts, none of which have affected the day to day lives of the Western world. That in itself is a success.

Iran uses its military might in its own area of influence, the Middle East. It has always been strong there (big fish/little pond) but even there, it has only survived with foreign arms (look at the Iraq/Iranian war). It will never be a threat to the West.

No more US, UK or any other Western troops should set foot in the Middle East whether as an aggressive force or humanitarian. They had their chance and repaid it with IEDs and bullets. Let them fight amongst themselves and use our technology in the form of drones and missiles to keep them down with no threat to our troops.

It will only matter so long as they have oil. Once it has gone the whole of the Middle East will crumble and they will revert back to nomad tribes on their camels so really, who cares?

You cannot win a war with bombing only. All that will do is make the opposition spread out and disguise themselves as non-combatants to prevent indiscriminate strikes. Changing the balance of power also does not work because it only creates a less stable theater where acts of sabotage and insurgency become the tactics of the day. You are operating under the assumption that you know who your enemies are. If you start bombing an entire area then you will only create more enemies than you are killing, as the family, friends, and acquaintances of the dead take up whatever arms they have at their disposal to defend themselves. A war of attrition is not desirable when you need to ship every resource you are using across and ocean. All you would be doing is burning through military funding at an astonishing rate, causing unrest at home which may end in the replacement of the current government with one more suited to the views of the populace.
