It then is just the potential for using the data in a subsequent way or with another script or program that is the issue, and that is not the issue with the script here in itself.
correct. this for example has a timeout in it, but i guess if you really wanted to you could spam !info in a channel...on the other hand, if someone were to make a looping python script that spat out your current life every second/few seconds, it'd be a different story.
(this is no longer legal and i no longer do it. @staff xD)
Just curious ... how is using the API and Python to check someone's profile every few seconds illegal? Seems like it's not outlawed by any documented rules. If you were scraping pages to get public data without loading them then yes that would directly break the new "script abuse" rule, but as long as it's API-only then what's the problem?
Sure, one could argue "unfair advantage", but that's a different discussion. If they don't want public data available via API then either remove it or delay it like they have with the markets.
You're right, I don't see it anywhere. It used to say you couldn't use it to an individual player's dis-advantage...IE life or travel status camping for a mug or retal.
You couldn't use scripts to gain an advantage over other players (auto mug, auto fly etc) but now with enough keys you can keep a full faction under watch :)
Under the old rules (below) I would say the status one would be iffy... under the new rules fair game which will prob just mean massive delays on all api calls in the future.
No scripts are allowed of any kind that are used with the intention of causing misfortune to another player(s). Examples of this include but are not limited too; Running auto scripts to buy people out of jail, running scripts for mugging other players and running a script to clear the points market. Using scripts such as those mentioned give you an unfair advantage and provide misfortune to other player(s) accounts.
