This suggestion is "driven" by the interest surrounding the current PRC and Ched's prize of a Bugatti Veyron, and mirrors the 2015 change to Weapons and Armour.

Suggestion: Give each car unique numeric stats for Top Speed, Acceleration, Braking, Handling, Dirt, Tarmac, and Safety!

Or perhaps, just Top Speed and Acceleration? Regardless, if every car becomes unique, this will create a new big market for top-stat cars, new interest in finding the best builds for each track, maybe even new potential revenue to come from GTA crimes. What's not to like!? Imagine owning the fastest Aston Martin, or the Cosworth with the best Dirt rating. The safest Reliant Robin?

Edit: per BackAlleyBob's comment below, yes we would need to be able to be able to un-enlist cars in order to swap in better ones, or ideally actually enlist multiple cars of the same type (perhaps with custom names for recognizably!). Here's a link to -Jackson's suggestion with 109 likes already on this part of it. https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=treads&f=4&t=15970289&b=0&a=0

Edit2: some clarification - I do not want "best car always wins"

Say the current top speed of my fully modded Honda NSX is 192 mph, which according to Inspect Element on the Top Speed slider is 85.333% of the full scale, so the current 'rating' might be translated to 85.3 in my new numeric system.

I'm just proposing that the Top Speed ratings of fully modded Honda NSXs vary around that 85.3 by a small amount, like 2-3 points, so that there is still very little overlap between cars. That would change the actual Top Speed maybe 5-7 mph in this range, and less at the high end, kinda like weapons where the changes are smaller at the top. The devs that know the actual numbers and formulas can handle those nuances, but I don't want anything game-breaking, just a fun new wrinkle to add some depth to Racing and car collecting.

We all know how much randomness there is in racing anyway, I can beat someone with double my racing score in identical Cars, or lose to them easily. This would just be another variable - not a deciding factor.

I like this idea R+

In order for this to work though there would need to be one other change as well...

Currently, if you have at least one upgrade on a car, you can not un-enlist it.

Therefore, that would need to be changed as well so you could swap cars in and out as you acquire them.
HandsomePants [1897243]

Great point, I believe there is a suggestion for that out there already? I'll find it and link it above or just add it in.

Edit: Done!

I'm all for each car having unique stats, but I do not want a randomized system similar to weapons because a key missing feature of the system is the ability to "reroll" the stats.
HandsomePants [1897243]

Want different stats? Go swap some money for a different new car/weapon/armour and hope the numbers work out better. Same as a "reroll" for cash. What other system would you prefer?
AshleyT [1432316]

Being able to pay to directly reroll the stats of the item in question, but let's keep this system out of racing. Cars are standardized with very little if any difference in manufacturing, meaning they'd be much more identical than firearms which typically have multiple manufacturers, not to mention more sensitivity to different grades of metal.

Cars aren't so sensitive to that, so the differences would be next to nothing if there is a difference at all. Plus, unlike attacking, cars play too big a role in who wins in racing, so this would turn racing from who has the best setup and racing skill, to who has managed to source the highest statted car.
themainman [1629262]

Sorry Ashley but I'm gonna have to disagree with u on this as there comes a time when realism in a game becomes to real

Why not allow cars to have unique stats like weapons. It'll add a whole new face to the game where people can collect cars with certain stats eg top speed and put them into there display case for all to see that they own all the top speed cars. It'll add to an area of torn which for now seems kinda dead besides from the Bugatti race that seems to be happening

Yeah people who have money will have the best car but it's just like that with weapons and armour at the moment. It's a nice idea which will add to the game and maybe even a new competitive vibe to the area

Tbh I wouldn't want the change to be implemented until I see what racing 2.0 is like which for all we know has this planned in it. For now I like the suggestion as it adds content and enjoyment
AshleyT [1432316]

And completely destroy the balance of racing, making it a game of who has the most money over who has the best setup?

No thanks.

With weapons it is acceptable, as they are mere modifiers to our battle stats, and the balance is still mostly the same.

This would completely demolish the balance of racing as the car stats in particular play a much larger role than weapons in the combat system, as Driving skill is the modifier, not the main effect.

Again, this wouldn't help racing, it would make it a game of who has the most money to purchase the rarest car with the highest stats rather than a fun, balanced mechanic.

Short version, it is ok for weapons, as weapons are modifiers to battle stats. It is not ok for racing, as Cars are the "Battle stats" of racing and Driving skill is the modifier.
HandsomePants [1897243]

How do you know this? I assume you're guessing? I don't know how any of it works behind the scenes, but I'm certainly not suggesting a scenario where the best car always wins regardless of driver and track and everything else. That's ridiculous, why would you think that's what I want?

Say the current top speed of my fully modded Honda NSX is 192 mph, which according to Inspect Element on the Top Speed slider is 85.333% of the full scale, so the current 'rating' might be translated to 85.3 in my new numeric system.

Edit: adding some of this post to the OP for clarification in case anyone else reads it as "best car always wins".
AshleyT [1432316]

Not guessing however I cannot source the information given that I had access to it over 2 years ago, but the racing system has not had any changes since then unless Ched shadow updated it.

One, that would be unrealistic, and while realism isn't Torn's best aspect, Cars, unlike weapons, have very strict standards they must follow, typically constructed from a single factory.

Two, while yes you COULD win, it is not easy to win against someone that high above you, and extremely statistically unlikely, however, you just proved my point. The cars have more effect than racing skill. Racing skill improves the chance of "A good lap" as it was stated, but the car itself dictates general performance as a whole.

Three, Most RPG games with systems of this nature allow for "re-rolling" of these stats, Torn currently offers no such service. Unless such a service was brought in at a reasonable price (Racing as it stands is a low cost past-time, and should stay that way although it's appeal should be raised) for cars, I'd never see a system like this being good for racing as it would significantly unbalance it. While I would prefer the "re-roll" system be added to weapons, that's a conversation for another day.
themainman [1629262]

I don't like your whole "re-rolling" argument because in my opinion torn does have a "re-rolling" aspect all u do is buy the car, weapon or armour again and hope you get better stats

And why do u want this game to be so realistic, yes in real life stock cars are usually the exact same but why does torn need that for all we know we buy cars off "fake" manufactures who sometimes use the best parts or worst parts giving some cars a stock edge.

AshleyT [1432316]

That isn't "re-rolling", that's buying anew. There's a key difference, re-rolling allows you to keep the item in question, and potentially gain high stats without having to pay stupid costs to players.

It would regulate car prices for high statted cars too if appropriately prices, keeping people from putting cars up for millions when you could potentially gain the stats with a few thousand.

Counterfeit cars? Lol, that's a new one. There are copies under different names, but counterfeit cars, really? That's far fetched even for Torn, I don't know of a single criminal in reality ever attempting such a dumb move, would be cheaper to just steal.
