This guide is misleading.

It is correct on education part, but others areas are wrong (in mine opinion).

Bank merits is one of the best for stable passive income with 2b in bank and 10/10 merits I am easy can live up (3xx and e refill each day just from %)

Crimes exp is good for building nnb (natural nerve bar)

Putting merits on the passive stat is the practically waste of them until 100m or more of b.stat.

So mine suggestion would be education, bank % (i recommend max bank as soon as possible)

and then crime exp or mug (depending on yours play stile)

Hmmm... Merits are individual so it really depends on one's goals.

That being said, we all must ask ourselves... between following advice from Mat-Senpai or Adrenalinas, whom should I choose.... Sorry Adre... Mat wins every time.

And.. with that being said.. Adre, please go read section four of Mat's guide again. Your comment makes me suspect that you did not give proper attention to what was written. Mat's last comment about using merits on passive stats proves this... "This follows the same rule as HP in that the lower your stats the less important this is."
Adrenalinas [1974447]

I just don`t agree with her on banks part.

Banks income is important thing especially in the firsts years (if you have maxed bank with max merits on it, you can just relax and enjoy the game, you don`t need to fly to keep up with a bill for 3 xx and e refill. And the part where she says, that ROE on the bank is low, come on, it is 24*6=124% per year of profit.

Anyway, that is just mine opinion and it doesn't fit for everyone, I just wanted other ones to hear different opinion before ignoring banks merits (if you are active that don`t mean that you don`t need bank merits)

I don't get using on education. Course completion rate goes from cold molasses slow to cool molasses slow. Banking for sure, after that depends on your own tastes.

Since all the educations combined takes year(s?), it knocks off many months before you finish, and there are a lot of strong bonuses from educations. It's likely they can benefit from that more quickly than bank interest, since that interest isn't as meaningful on small amounts of cash people have when they start.
ToxicMonkeyMZC [712861]

I finished all the edu course a long time ago without spending any merits in edu.

I really wish there was more edu to do to fill the vast TC edu hole in my life.

Don't spend them merits, just savour the edu feature while its still there....you'll be sorry when its gone.

Most of the bachelor benefits are junk (at least half of them). there's a few good degrees and then some misc abilities and stat boosting classes to take. To each their own though, that's why we each have a choice. My $0.02
Mat-Senpai [952164]

It's mostly the merits which is why you do them all - as for the half which are good, they're extremely good. Having unlocked passive benefits, gym benefits, weapon exp, business bonuses and so on they help out a large amount - history which isn't beneficial for myself may benefit someone who flies as their main source of income and in general as a new player getting the "important/good" education done still takes over a year which is why as a new player the educational % is generally the best investment.

In regard to the comment on banking being beneficial (and this is without going into the fact that banking would take up 55 merits.

so what do you get as a new player spending 55 merits in banking? well going by the best investment amount you're looking at 2 months, with 0 merits you'll get 4.24% interest but for 10/10 banking you should get 16.34% (going by https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=threads&f=61&t=15975353&b=0&a=0 - Wiki will need to be updated to contain more detailed information, will be done at some point during the wiki rebuild)

So while it's completely unreasonable lets make the assumption that this new player has 2 billion in cash. This is 326.8m a month or 1960.8m a year. As a non-active player or inactive player this is actually pretty good money, for an active player this isn't. Money invested in stocks will result in more money than Banking - looking at FHG as just a single example you're spending 750m and getting 14m items on average once a week and far more consistently. so over a year you're expecting 730m while having 1250m to invest elsewhere and unlike the banking system it isn't capped- over a year you'll return better amounts with the same % of return.

this part is more aimed towards Adrenalinas - this month I made two stock investments, TCP and WLT - the first investment gave 11% profit and the second 23% (at time of selling) - while being far riskier the money is better and for an active player it will pay off - with 2 billion this would have resulted in 2220m being reinvested for 2730.6m - a much larger return over 1 month vs 2 months while costing no merits.

tl;dr education is good for all new players, banking is bad for all active players.

Thanks, going by my exchange with them on my thread i believe they haven't read much about it - regardless my reply is above for them.

if spending merits for merits is the game, nerve bar plus crime success (soooo many crime merits to be had). There was another forum recently where someone talked about spending in awareness just to get to 100 city finds faster (??!? really!)

And money is money, bank plus stock blocks plus everything else you can do. more is better. Get 2b in bank and in 2 months buy FHG block, and build up from there. Never enough money, active or inactive.
FALCON [2014817]

take a 14 day class, with max merits and education job complete plus wssb, you drop down to 9 days and 1 hour, it is still slow but that adds up over the entire education that you can complete. to each his own, but I see the benefit of the merits.
Hopslam [795412]

to make banking merits even a worse enticement.....

Just recently did a 2 month $2b investment, and its payoff is $294,800,000

10/10 merit, but not stock bb
