This is really more to confirm the NPC works as intended

Recently with TCB 1billion shares were added to the system, 2 days later 1.57billion shares were added to the system.

It seems like there should be a much larger cooldown to share adding from the NPC, adding billions of shares to the market days after while still having shares on the market seems incredibly pointless and seems like a forced way to drop value.

Perhaps ched can comment on the logic if it is intact intended?

I for the life of me can't figure out why TCB added 2.5b shares within days of it bottoming out, other than to flood the system. This second release, there were still shares available (33 million,I believe, according to tornstats... unless they hit 0 and the npc triggered to add shares instantly). But adding shares the moment the stock hits 0 shares destroys supply and demand from player to player :/

Same thing with FHG which added 4b shares while it was still dropping

Ched mentioned in the other stock thread -- if the shares for sale drops below a % of total shares, like 1% or something, then there is a chance of a stock drop. I can't recall if he stated a specific %, but anyway it's not just 0 shares when it drops, it's based on the % of shares already there. FHG for example already has a crap ton of shares, so to get to that % threshold is easier than other stocks. 1% of 21b is 210m shares in that scenario. TCB had 6.4b total shares for example, so for a chance at a stock drop (again assuming 1%), it would need to go below 64m shares for sale.

Sorry in advance for bringing opinion into bug thread, and I'm sure you'd rather hear Chedburn's comment here :)

The shares flooding issue seems more of an issue with what the players are doing, rather than the system. The system (seems) set up so that any player can buy into a stock, at almost any given time. If players continue to wipe out shares of a particular stock, yeah, it will likely continue to create indirect negative effects. These stock benefit blocks are low amount of shares. So in reality, when billions of shares are dropped and then bought up in a short amount of time, it's likely a small number of uber wealthy, or fair amount of well off players doing this. If this continues, especially with certain stocks already high in total shares, it may cause further perceived drop in value, and may even limit stock rises subsequently, as players that do own large stock volumes attempt to sell when a price rises. Again, and only opinion here, but it doesn't seem like the system of adding shares is the real issue of forcing a "drop" in value, but an issue of the masses or select few uber wealthy buying up all shares and then subsequently flooding market with shares for sale on price increases.
Hopslam [795412]

If that does happen, it is because of the player(s) adding shares to the market. Pretty sure Ched has said a couple times recently that the NPC added shares do not affect stock price. (but it most certainly affects what the players perceive). Take that TCB one for example, if those 1.6b shares or 1.4b shares for sale are all from the NPC, it won't affect the stock price. But if, for example, the TCB price rises soon and players start adding shares, and soon we see 2b shares for sale, then 3b shares, etc. That would show 2b shares for sale, but in reality 1.4b of those were NPC (not affecting stock price), but affecting the perception of the stock. And then further on if price goes up farther, shares really flood with 4b or 5b shares for sale, still with the 1.4b NPC, but 3.6b of player shares, that is essentially flooding the market -- and perhaps that is what stops or affects a stock price increase or price leveling...

and people wonder why those without bots/scripts gave up on the stock market. I hope your battery dies.

That said, I'm pretty sure it should never add any if some are up for sale.

Can't beat em, join em?

That being said it's using API information with a 1 hour delay, rules deem it perfectly fine - you're in the committee if you believe it isn't i'd suggest starting a thread there about it and not this bug report.
CindyFury [345050]

I believe the idea is to flood the stock market with shares to give every one a even and fair chance to catch the shares been listed

we know for a fact that some nasty little scripts where/are floating around which i dont believe there is a way to stop these hence why we get the mass flooding of shares from the NPC now
sullengenie [1946152]

GIve me a break about the script. The API stock information is 1h delayed. If you haven't heard about a big share dump within an hour (before he gets his text message), you're doing something wrong.
Harley [258120] Wiki Contributor

They're referring to why it was given a 1hr delay & big dumps of shares in the first place (cause of scripts like these)
Mat-Senpai [952164]

Well yeah - though this one was only added after the delay, you're a committee member so if suggest you joining beer and Demanding the removal of the api information if you believe such things are negative.

That all aside, the information if mostly for tracking reasons, as sullen said by the time 1 hour has gone very rarely are there shares left - in this case there are a lot, during a trigger which don't match rules of 1% or under to dump more so the bug report was created.
