Why don't they want them? If the children are left unprotected and grouped up like cattle. Whose really enabling shooters?

I mean people should be pissed the system cares so little for the children that they are put in these situations. Schools need adequate security.

I think anytime you have a group of citizens in one place and someone wishes to commit an act of evil there is only so much we can really do. we should do our best to limit the danger, of course, but ultimately there is no way to eliminate it.

the next time people leave school or pick up their children just ask yourself "how safe are we?"

I don't think guns in schools are the answer. I think it would be better to not allow schools built outside a reasonable response radius for law enforcement. auto locking bullet proof entry doors with a 2 door set entry system. cameras. 2 guards at the entrance. emergency lockdown protocols and standard lockdown protocols that keep people out of the school to begin with. allowing parents into the office doesn't mean they should have access to the rest of the school.

even then I don't think we can honestly say that schools would be safe or even safer than they are now.

we are probably going to end up with armed security of some form in schools. we will also likely discover it will change very little.
PurpPurp [1990116]

We gotta admit its getting out of hand. I just think a gun ban is a very narrow view. If we only had like 70mil people. Maybe then, but like you suggested there's alot of things that can be done. I just don't see why a mall has more security then places children go to school.
Tolshortte [648554]

because the reality is people care more about money and property. those who own those things invest in protecting them. schools are run by people who, in the case of public schools in most areas, have to answer to graduation rates and budget concerns.

sad part the issue isn't even if a school has security or not. where the **** are we at as a society that we have to worry about someone doing something like this in the first place? when I was a kid we all ran the streets together until the street lights came on or Mom yelled for you from the porch. we didn't worry about the things we have to worry about now.

people just need to be better human beings. we lack empathy, we lack respect for life, we lack intelligence. we worship people like Kim Kardashian and mock people like Trump. we call for laws to stop shit that when those laws were in place didn't stop anything. we have people calling for segregation in movie theatres so we don't ruin "black joy" as if that were a thing lol. as if somehow black peoples experience would be diminished if we enjoyed a movie with them because the protagonist is black. people have simply lost their ****ing minds lol.

I said it before that I'm all for MAGA but it isn't possible until americans are great again. we just aren't. we let those who SELL us a product dictate what would should feel and think. we no longer look out for one another and cant wait to disengage from a real discussion by calling someone a -ist of some form. we no longer want to be logical because it means more to be right or on the right side.

we no longer can even just let a tragedy be a tragedy. we have to make the perpetrator famous and vilify anyone we politically oppose. we have to use uninformed stances to make ad hominem arguments instead of listening. we no longer look for solutions we look for excuses.

sorry for the rant. we just need to be better. all of us. help each other out. make sure your neighbor/friend/coworker/family member is ok. put your phone down and connect with your community. we need to stop finger pointing and screaming and do something that will actually make a difference.

I Agree and disagree with this. Obviously, you know im all for having gaurds in the school, or any area deemed a gun free zone. And having schools built within a certain response radius of first responders is just plain logical. But, turning schools into an environment where kids become trapped under lockdown situations with no point of egress is just as scary as not having those protocols.

If an active shooter gets into the school, then lockdown goes into effect, you now have the entire school body locked in with the killer and no exit strategy. And if the shooter is a student, he could take advantage of big gatherings like lunch in the cafeteria or presentations in the auditorium, or gym class to kill even more people. If you know when and where the large gatherings are, and you know youll be locked down WITH your targets, and they have no chance of escape... well weve basically made it that much easier for the shooter to commit his crimes.

In my mind, the only real response to being under fire, is to return fire, and wait for backup to arrive in hopes on neutralizing the target(s) before they are able to cause too much harm. Every defence is penetratable if there isn't an armed team ready to hold the defenses in place
Tolshortte [648554]

the idea is to prevent or delay entry. we can accomplish this structurally. with todays technology its not hard to make such a system interactive and responsive as needed. I see your concerns but we are in an era where tech allows us flexibility we weren't before.

there were over 20k deaths due to heroine overdoses last year. wait.....its illegal and banned in every state....that cant be....and yet it is

What we need to do is limit what guns and how much ammo people can get, we also need extensive back round checking.
Buzz [4309]

There have been armed security guards at many of these mass shootings and they haven't helped. You can't just send a teacher on a week long training course in marksmanship and expect them to stand their ground against a murderous psycho with nothing to lose. Most humans have a very strong instinct to avoid dying or killing and the ones that don't shouldn't have guns.

All of these "more guns" interventions are expensive and dangerous. Imagine a teacher being bullied by his students on a bad day - then try adding a gun. Tell me none of them would snap.
PurpPurp [1990116]

I've been thinking. What if we put a locking device of some sort on guns, that will respond to some other device in a school. that will transmit a signal to the gun to lock?

Regardless Its certainly time to revolutionize how guns are made. they gonna take them away if we don't innovate at this rate.

I own a few guns all inherited but a 22 varmint gun...I have given my shot gun and deer rifle to my son in law as I have been on many a deer hunt and all I can think of is Bambi's mom...lol,,,,I grieved for 2 weeks after killing a rabbit with my Christmas bow and arrow when I was 12...but I do recall a 80 + year old women in a small Romanian village near Oradea tell us about her husband and son being lined up in front of a ditch by German troops , as all of the fighting aged men and boys from that Village.. ..they did not have guns and all shot by the Germans because they would not fight for them.

Think that can't happen here or where you live? Then you have not learned your history, for whatever reason. Get educated...there is evil in this world. I'd speak up for all gun owners and their right to own them and have a chance to defend themselves when ever their family or lives are threatened....Me an my 22 varmint gun might not do much...but it has killed a few skunks and copperheads...lol

As far as the Florida school shootings...put that sheriff and deputy out of work,,,,they failed their community totally....we don't need new gun laws here, we need to use the ones we have and punish the ones who fail to implement them...if they had done their job, from the FBI down that would never have happened.

All I know about guns in schools is that:

a) Comparing countries by both gun possession and absolute homicide rates, the US is doing pretty well on both fronts. There is also no correlation between ownership and increased murder rates - it actually is people, not guns, that do the killing.

b) Being able to mow down a crowd certainly helps though

c) I would like to see more guns in US schools. Let scared and confused civilians fire at random moving targets. Make better and bloodier stories for the news.

Here we go with the war again.

Did that woman tell you about the raping and murders of the Russians? What about the Napalm bombs that Brits dropped ? And the Fat Boy that was dropped in Japan?

It's been 80 years ffs . Let it go .

As far as school shootings go it's bad ****ing parenting or the kid has serious mental issues .

Doesn't take a genius.
PurpPurp [1990116]

Yeah I agree. Can't fix stupid though. People wanna leave there guns out where some crazy kid gonna take advantage. what can ya do

You're naivete is obvious. I suppose you think your Government would never lie to you either. About 60 miles from me our US Federal government, through it's out of control agencies, the Alcohol Tobacco and Fire arms stormed a religious compound that resulted in a siege. The result was 80 people were burned to death, including about 12 kids (from infants to 14 years old) as a result of the use of Military force and Equipment (tanks and helicopters) in violation of the Posse Comitatus act where the Federal Government is not allowed to use Military equipment or troops against the people of a state. That is the states jurisdiction. Not the Federal governments.

No, I don't trust our government here in the US...as we speak our government is trying to perform a coup and unseat a legitimately elected President. What we are seeing here now is a Federal Government, with the use of politicized Federal agencies, the CIA and the FBI acting in a seditious and treasonous manner, with the cooperation of the Mainstream media.. Our founding fathers of this country warned us about this possibility and added the Bill of rights to insure our ability to protect ourselves and to be able to speak freely. Apparently you are not aware of these rights and why they saw it so important to add them to our constitution. These rights will never be antiquated or unnecessary as long as governments act in tyrannical ways.

Most people are naive, and trust government to always act in the best interest of it's people. The truth is the governments will always act in it's own best interest if allowed to....The US is undergoing a quiet revolution, behind the scenes and the rampant corruption is not being exposed by our MSM because they are complicit in it. There is a reason that the Marine Corp has deployed a Military expeditionary Unit to Washington DC at Langley. This is unprecedented in the history of the US...now do some homework and find out why the marine corp was initially created by the Founding fathers...one of it's main duties is to protect the legally elected President of the US at home, and it's citizens and their interests in foreign lands.

I not only support the second amendment, but think we should be equally armed as the federal troops and have access to those weapons in order to protect ourselves from the ones governing us. As was intended by the Bill of rights and especially the second amendment and the Posse Comitatus Act.

Under the Clinton's first term of service in the presidency we had two major incidents of federal over reach and the killing of American citizens exercising their constitutional rights to own and bear arms. Ruby Ridge and the Waco Branch Davidian debacle where innocent women and children were killed by federal authorities. Both incidences were initiated by federal agencies,,,both Ruby Ridge and The Waco tragedies were initiated by the Bureau of Alcohol, tobacco and Firearms agency acting in an imprudent and unconstitutional manner, Resulting in standoffs that required the FBI to come in and help them out. Both ended in totally unnecessary destruction of property and loss of lives.

I started watching the TV series "Waco" the first 5 episodes seem to be fair and reveals how we were lied to by these agencies trying to cover their ass. I just wonder if the whole truth will come out and show the Branch Davidians of Waco did not set themselves on fire, but that the tanks were responsible for igniting the fires while punching holes in the buildings where the people were seeking protection as the Tear gas used was the wrong type and very flammable ,,,,

I will venture to predict that if the CIA, FBI and the mainstream media are successful in performing a presidential coup there will be more Ruby Ridges and waco's to come. The world is watching,,,I have had several from Australia and areas of the former USSR rooting for those second amendment rights and hoping we can keep them. I am sure they have read and studied history.

It's one of the dirty parts of political discourse that so many people use thermonuclear rhetorical weapons as a first resort. It is not enough for defenders of gun rights to be wrong; they must be complicit in murder. It is not enough for gun-control advocates to be mistaken; they must be jack booted thugs laying the groundwork for tyranny.

These competing apocalypses, paradoxically, make politics appear smaller the realm of unbalanced partisans and professional hyperventilators. But more destructively, this type of argument makes incremental change the kind that our system of government encourages more difficult.
