Its better to save them up and spend them on mods and books.
The best thing you can get for points is a book. They're few and far between though. Past that, you might get some nice armor, or weapon mods, but they require a good deal of points. You have to weigh the benefits of the money now, versus the possible benefits of future purchases. I always keep a surplus of mission points in case a book comes around, but sometimes buying an item/s for the purposes of selling is a smart move.

I personally skip mods also.
100% only spend them on books, and keep a surplus of points so if you get a few books very close together you can buy them.
I am still learning about books, they are quite expensive though
But so worth it. At your stage.... more of a "save" since some of them are best to do things like get into specific jobs and buy enough FHC to grind them for a month.
Or things like gaining a max of 10m stats, should be read once you can gain the maximum. same for 2,500 working stats.
If you can buy an item with money, buy it with money. Mission points are hard to get compared to how many you need to buy the good stuff, so buy only weapon mods and books with mission points, anything else would be a huge waste of points. You can make $2.5m in a couple of hours but 350 mission points will take weeks or months. Definitely a bad idea to buy items to sell.
There is no definitive answer to this question, it all depends on your own strategy and finances. Mods are useless if you don't like rifles, and I've seen a lot of players use all their money on boosters when they're reading a book for instance.
All i can say is just gather points till you can find something worth it for you to spend. Mods or books etc are all useless if you not prepared for anything :) in a long run you should have your own game plan all they are saying are just tips at the end its all your descision...
