I just finished reading the posting for the community moderator job. I never had any inclination to consider applying due to a number of reasons, but I started thinking, if all the pieces fell into place, would I want the job?
I lack experience relating to running a game and have a very elementary knowledge of, well technology in general. I think if I were single and a bit younger, it would be a very interesting position. I like the idea of solving problems, putting out fires and setting precedent for future determinations. The more I think about it, the more I think I would want to have a go at applying.
Unfortunately, I am married with a daughter, have a pretty successful career that pays more than the position (humble brag), although its not chump change for sure and I just do not have the know how or even the equipment to preform competently as a community manager. To be honest I would love to submit my application for the sole reason to see if I would even be considered, but I think by creating this thread I have pretty much disqualified myself.
Do you have any interest in actively pursuing the job as community manager? Is this a position you would like to hold. Do you think you are qualified? Why or why not?
I don't even have an interest in actively pursuing my RL job, and I really like it. I mostly would like to take a nap and maybe if I have enough energy drink a beer. My spirit animal is a sloth. If I had a family crest it would be a sloth tanktop, drinking a beer, and napping in a hammock.

Would I be qualified? Well I've been staff here before as an admin assistant too, but a lot has changed so I wouldn't even begin to pretend I would know the setup and enforcement options better than the current staff, I work as a sales manager for a large company in the UK already in a big show room so am used to dealing with angry customers on the regular lol idk what relevant qualifications would be necessary here tbh... My GDPR compliance certificate maybe...
My roommate can work from here sometimes if she wants but chooses not to as we both have a lot of meetings/calls. Two people working from home has potential downsides as well as up, but since she already works from home, you're probably fairly aware of both pluses and minuses.
Yeah this would be a potential concern. She isn't however at home all the time, working as a regional manager she's more often driving than being in the office. I did work for her before previously though without issue before we moved the office to our new/current house.
As Poptop mentioned in the other thread, it's a management job, and you'll be managing a lot of people.
CMs normally semi-close to entry level (you get basically their assistants below) you'd start as an assistant CM or community experience specialist CES (or similar name) and eventually get CM, though CMs rarely have more than 3 people under them at most, even for very large companies.
The position Ched's offering includes fairly high level people management skills (26 staff alone), which is a whole different position really. Closer to Project manager than CM.
That said, I hope that gives you an idea where to look for if you're interested in the industry. Beyond that, always always apply to positions you want, even if you feel unqualified. The worst they can say is no, which is 95% of what you'll get applying anywhere.

That's all that matters, as long as you know that you're fine. I'd be worried otherwise as that much time that close can be a serious issue for many, but for some it's not a big deal.
No, I've played the RPG of louis de pointe in Torn too much to be seen as staff material - and being strongly opinionated is where my contribution to Torn is as it is.
If I did I'd have to restart and be very much a professional not a player.
