I would want to get that position, but I am not qualified for it. Besides I don't think that they would want 17 years old anywhere near the staff position.
Ninivah [1950421]

Even if I were qualified and had the time and resources to do this job I would not take it. I remember some of Clansy's goodbye speech and it sounds like she went above and beyond; not just with taking shit criticism from disgruntle players but her having to talk suicidal people away from the edge and temporarily banning addicted players so they would be forced to prioritise  their real life.

Reflecting on the state of the forums and some of the past dramas current and past CMs have had to deal with, I don't think I would have handled those situations any better or even just as good if I were the one calling the shots.

Father [2131687]

If you don't mind me asking, who was Clansy? I have heard a lot of players mentioning the name. All of them had respect for him/her. I don't know who was Clansy.
Xeretrax [2039020]

I can tell from experience elsewhere, I wouldn't want it again. Constantly dealing with people moaning about everything ... not worth it. Save yourself the drama.

-Clansdancer was effectively the former CM before she decided to leave Torn. She was here for a long time. I don't think a single person agreed with every decision she made, but as shown when she parted, she had a lot of respect regardless.
Hamr [2027992]

Having now read the job description, I actually would like to apply to it. There are two problems, however. I'm currently a uni student, and if I want to get good grades I'm going to need those 40 hrs/week. A part-time position (even with utterly random hours) is something I could work with for the next two years, but that is not what's on offer here. The second problem is that in two years' time I'll be making moves towards a very different career that I value way more highly than Torn and £35k pa.

So, much as I'd probably suit and enjoy this job... Not for me.

A bit of history, there has been over 2 Million+ signups to Torn over 12+ years, retaining <.001% from 12- 27,000 periodic players, most sign in and train then leave 3X times a day (3X xanax) to keep their stats "competitive" (at this point, not sure why), without faction warring and/or Crimes 2.0, whats the point...items are exactly the same in All the stores for over 8+ years, yes we noticed Ched...

First of all, there are NOT 3000+ players playing Torn at any time (eg right now more like 200+-, this is counting ALL developers and staff. if you check the servers (on the left side, bottom), you will see there are at most, 200-350 players online at any given time, just add the total players online 200+-.The numbers on the Torn.com (front page) are Fake and the total number of ALL devices connected (most players have more the one device).

This is also down from peak events, to about 500-700+- (from about 1200- 1500+- peak in the last 9+ years average). Fake stats...fake game, fake upgrades, fake promises, fake factions and players, monopolies everywhere, who would notice...

Hire Marlon and Make Torn Great again with 1 million New Players, its about time...for real change in Torn !

When the game changed from a text based RPG game with Core game play (eg Warring and Crimes) it "lost its soul" and text based player base. Graphics are not the core of this game, never was, with the loss of fast game play with easy text based options, Torn lost player and faction strategy, tactics, speed and fast action used to be. This is no longer the case, now it is just a waste of time, no comradre, no teamwork, repetitive and so boring.

Torn game play critical mass(enough players to keep the game fast paced and interesting) in this game play is now completely gone, without faction warring (eg now zero faction warring, territories are completely locked in place (with no movement, factions so allied movement is all but impossible and therefore completely pointless.

So many long time players and factions have leaft the game, the core is gone, and now even more new players are leaving much more quickly (eg in minutes or hours, as new Torn players millenials, do not seem to have the attention span and tenacity to play for years to get nowhere. They all know they have ZERO chance of ever catching up ANY of the top players or factions in the game.Long time players are now just gone...or going through the motions 3x a day xanax training stats.

All Torn casino games, are now Chedded and rigged to the point, that they  just a waste of time and take all your Torn cash).

Torn has always been about faction teams, pure habit, and repetitive game addiction, for these, you need constant game surprizes and rewards, which are sorely lacking now. Bring back point and click items finds everywhere..

The inflection point, where Torn changed, is very clear, the moment Ched stopped the click anywhere and find a prize and started promising for RESPO platform, and the moment faction warring and chaining was turned off (why not turn it back on)., The players never recovered from this, there is a real "lack of excitement" now with each click (boredom), .and when you take away major parts of players and factions habits (eg Faction War declares, NAPs, and Peace Treaties and Crimes 2.0 unreleased) the game has become quite misdirected  (no point to it) with level caps (how many faction level 100s do you need) and energy caps and Chedding of every upgrade and change made to the game, with so many promises announced and not released for years. (eg "new" armour sets ( for 3+ years)and many new game items unreleased, so many in fact that it is only the JFK et al factions that seem to benefit by frontrunning. (eg faction tier chains, territories rewards, new items and collectibles (still only staff). So whats the point, already...and the drop in forum quality and interest.

At this point, the game is pointless for many years and so repetitive and boring, so all the forums and chats reflect this. There does comes a time when promises catch up with Torn reality, we are at that point, Ched and developers have ignored long time player request to bring back "old school" faction warring, declares has still NOT been added back, so it appears this game is at an near end. Torn is Dead... MarlonBrando JFK Art of War.

[image: media.giphy.com]Torn time for change, stop planning back to the Core!.

Dear Ched, Time for real change baby..this one is just not working..rerelease Faction Warring pretty please...with a cherry on top.

I think this is a great post, thanks Ninivah. I think you bring up a good point.

Who exactly would we want...

A CM from the community, with empathy, with understanding, with the ability to relate to the playerbase - to complement an amazing team of coders/techs and shed a hint of humanity to manage and lead a team driving the need for human emotions to the rest of the community. As Clansy has done SO MANY times, behind the scenes witnessed by her team, time and time again.

Or do we simply agree with Teddy, ignore this notion that the CM needs to be to relate to the playerbase, bring in someone strictly professional, plastic in how they handle players/customers - lacking a little from the humanity part, further compounding a team that already has little player/customer personal contact. But, potentially non-biased and probably with little to no drama.

I think they each have their perks, but if indeed the community wants someone like Clansy, that person will be exceedingly difficult to find. Clansy did a lot behind the scenes and because she bought the element of humanity to this machine we call Torn - it as stated above may have been seen as "wrong" or "right".

I eagerly await this new appointment and I am interested to see if they indeed aim and strive for the betterment of Torn, or if it will simply be just another 40 hour day to day job, that will neither complement nor improve this machine.

Good luck to the applicants!
Ahab [1735214]

It don't matter if they like the game they just have to like doing their job as community manager and be good at it, why ched has already put that he will go elsewhere if nobody playing is found suitable for the role.
JussiJernkuuk [1874922]

Of course it matters, you can't really distinguish between the game and the community when it comes to the duties of a community manager. People who don't like the people they have to work with tend to look for other jobs. That's probably why Ched wants to see if he can find someone from the community first.
