I actually joined torn because of one of these sites, I saw someone call it a ripoff and indeed it was, although not quite as blatant. They’re surprisingly common.
Yeah a quick Goodle of browser crimes games and Torn comes on a 4th in the list. Plenty of them out there I guess, but Torn doesn't mention Mafia as one or two of these do. If that makes a difference *shrugs*
There is a game engine out there named MCCodes, I'm not sure if torn was built off that or not. When I was learning to code, I purchased MCCodes and its the same set up, but torn is modified now and this is how I found torn.
I've played a couple rip offs and "new" browser games that get abandoned after the developer gets some donation money. They come and go like many other websites that copy others. It's a business.
I have seen some similar ones but given how long this game has lasted, and given the level of activity and ongoing developments, it's safe to say this will be around for a good few years to come. In saying that - a lawsuit would be costly - and what's to say the other games have this level of activity/ donations / staff etc. And potential longevity?
Ive played a few rip offs as u all call them as well i dont know if theres any legal stuff involved. In a way i feel alot of stuff are rip offs of others
