Does hoarding an "item" like teddy bears? have any benefits... like is there a way to buy them all and create a monopoly in the market causing a rise in prize?

The intrepid trader can make some play money by hoarding and 'fixing' the market but sometimes that can lead to disaster ie having to sell for less than you bought it for.

Items which are needed for a event are a good thing to 'fix'

Stop creating a false-scarcity of the BCT and making them more expensive!

Nintendo did this with their consoles for a while, and everyone hated them!

Don't be like nintendo.

Be more likee Koji-Pro, and lookout for his fellow man, instead of extorting him for thee big bucks! (unlike Nintendo)

I STG i hope you haven't pulled a Bethesda, and are actually selling paper slips with "Iou" and the flight destination written on them D:

hoarding items for pricing purposes (increasing price) normally only works well for very low circulation items

trading can certainly manipulate pricing on most other items in game, but each item type carries some different risks, so you really need to know a lot about the items in game before attempting anything (things like source price of item in game, and how the item comes into the game, and how much people need an item, etc..). Also price manipulations by trading (in most cases) are meant to be shorter in term, short/long enough to be able to sell off stock at the higher price before it naturally drops again. Trying to force a price too high on an item too long while you can't sell off at the higher price will inevitably lead to the item price going down naturally, and you'd be forced to continue buying cheaper to keep the price up, or sell for less. Given enough funds and dedication, one can typically keep it up long enough to sell off stock, but it definitely comes with risk of not being able to sell for profit without months of longer of hardship in trying to sell off the stock without loss.

it's a little more difficult to manipulate pricing on items that are already super high in circulation, and also on items that are regularly brought into the game (like the city shops, travel shops, stock items, etc), but if they are a high demand item, you can usually attempt very very short term manipulations without much risk.

hoards can and are also used for the opposite purpose, to cause a decrease in price. Placing a huge stock of an item right at or near market price, will often lead to undercutting, and you can let that undercutting go on to your liking and wait it out and/or buy up the cheaper items up for sale. Once satisfied, you can finishing buying up the cheaper items on the market, remove your bulk stock, and increase the price more.

There are a lot of things traders can do with item pricing, but there are also a lot of external factors that you cannot control, hence the risk. You really need to be highly active and knowledgable (or I guess lucky) about item trading and the particular item markets you are trying to work in before attempting any pricing manipulations with hoarding items.

You are a generous trader and personally i think it is heart warming that a player in your position has decided to operate in that way. In this cut throat game there are many who would have forced the price down on that deal.

slightly tangential but still relevant:
the Hoarder title relates to the number of points bought, not the number of items held.

So to answer your original question, no, hoarding teddy bears will not have any benefit. The item is simply too common and very easily renewed from Bits and Bobs.

You could stock pile such an item and choose to sell when the price is naturally higher. However, keep in mind that capital tied up in stock (that is, holding a lot of items) doesn't earn you any interest.

If you plan on buying plushies and holding for 30 days, you could do better putting the cash in a bank account for 30 days.

You are level 9 now. Your best bet is to attack "leveling" targets to get your level to 15 as soon as possible. Then you can fly and make a lot more money trading.

This just 100%

I've had many people ask me if I can help them 'manipulate' the prices or sell my stuff higher. I always tell them no, unless they can explain to me why a certain item would have potential to increase in the next month(s).

BCT is currently rising because Hunting day
FHC/Can rose a bit last week because the 2x XP event and will rise some more because of elimination coming up
Beer and Kegs will rise these weeks because beer day
But for most of those you'll have to prepare a LONG time ahead, because else other people will buy the cheap ones before you do. I've tried with a couple events now, but every time I run into the problem of selling those items on the event days, because other traders or risk takers do the same. I had 500m weed on 420 and maybe sold 10% of my stock for double the price they were bought. The other 90% I sold for a tiny profit or maybe a loss. And that was months of building up to it. That could have been invested in different items and yield better results. Those losses I see as learning moments and not putting all my eggs in 1 basket.

Do NOT manipulate prices, because that will work shortterm, but as soon as other people notice they will put their prices $1 below yours and you'll be forced to keep undercutting until the whole profit is gone.
