With the new changes in the patch to worker efficiency dropping to 0 over a period of 10 days some directors have gotten rather salty.

Personally i'm 100% behind the changes it dives the competitive nature of how companies SHOULD be. It makes life more difficult for the multi abusers and It combats directors benefiting off 100+ and 1000+ day old inactive employees. Seems like a Win Win for me.

That being said perhaps we could have a system as follows...

Each member of staff receives an allocated amount of days annual leave per year. Let’s say 28 days. They can take this all at once or over 28 different days throughout the year.

How would this work?
  • A member of your company applies for a vacation.
  • The director of the company receives the request via a notification in their events just like how they do with applications to the company.
  • The director accepts their vacation request. This locks their activity related productivity, Drug addiction/Need for rehab penalties in place as the time of the authorised vacation. (Not the time of application). Encouraging people to rehab before going away.
  • Once the person is on vacation their productivity at the time of vacation is locked in place or reduces ever so slightly, perhaps only a few % a day. This could encourage people to rehab before their holiday and would allow people going offline due to real life events and holidays.
Each company has its own calendar like we do for the yearly events and they can see when other people have booked time and then book their own time accordingly.

Edit: The holiday could be added to the trade section displaying under the other six possible things that can be traded

You have added 7 days holiday to the trade...

Possible side effects

Edit: Once the employee returns from their vacation perhaps they receive a random chance to get a 1-28% productivity bonus that degenerates over a week/two weeks. (Inline with how real life vacations boost productivity) The longer the holiday the higher the Productivity boost. People that booked 1 day off receive a 1% boost on returning to work. 2 days 2% etc...

When the director receives the notification, they have the option to offer the vacation as paid or unpaid.
  • If the vacation is a paid one the company will need to have the funds to pay for the entire pay period the employee is off. They recieve this as a lump sum after returning to the workforce the end of their vacation.
  • If the vacation is unpaid the employees wages are automatically dropped to 0 for the period of time they have booked off.
  • The director has the option to part pay some of the allocated days, or any combination of none or all of them.
Directors will have the option to negotiate the number of paid holidays the employee could be allocated at the time of application and before accepting them for example 0-28 days. At the end of the company year/tax year any vacations that were agreed and not allocated will be paid to the employee as a lump sum payment. This would allow directors to offer better vacation allocation days for Higher stat players and open up negations for lower stat players to haggle for more vacation days say.

A employee that is fired receives none of the previously agreed company allocated holiday days. Yes this opens up the possibility that directors could fire high payed staff that are about to cash in for un-allocated vacations but that would be a very short sighted move and damage the company image in the long run.

Time in service entitlement

Employees would automatically receive time in service entitlements of 1, 3 , and 5 days following completion of 1, 3 and 5 full years service within an annual leave year (up to a total of 5 extra days). This time in service could work like days in a faction does. It wouldn't be necessary to have continuous unbroken days merely total days served in that company type.

Other simpler suggestions

And yes i realise this probably wouldn't be easy to implement. It does how ever open the compromise between completely nerfing the company activity and those who genuinely are having trouble logging in due to RL circumstances ie sickness, bereavement, family, school holidays etc. EDIT: and work in remote locations.

Don’t forget work, a lot of people works shifts in remote locations that don’t have internet service or phone service. So now those players are getting punished for their RL job? I don’t quite understand. Family, work, school is way more important than this. The changes are a little steep

Very interesting idea!
The days of leave should be a % of days employed in the current company. Maybe 10%?
Once leave is approved, everything should be locked (pay, productivity). They still do help the company earn revenue if productivity is locked so they should continue to be paid. Pay is locked to prevent directors from dropping their pay to 0.

I disagree with the boost, 20% feels too much. Furthermore, we shouldn't reward too much for inactivity.
The lump sum payment is unnecessary, afterall we want to encourage activity.

Another approach would be to drop the weakest employee from the effectiveness calculation (unless the company only has 1 employee). This would allow the director to retain one employee on vacation or even on extended leave, but not two.

It would still prevent the inactive mutlis abuse problem, since everyone else is required to be active.

For N members, effectiveness is calculated on N-1 employees, dropping the minimum effectiveness number. Seems like it would be easy to implement.

Interesting idea, although looks a little complex. I can see the problem you're trying to solve though, I would have gone with something like the following:
  • For every ACTIVE day the player is in the company, they can go AWOL for 0.05 days without a drop in efficiency.

This could be displayed somewhere just accruing and be used automatically when the player doesn't log in that day when the company cron runs, allowing active players to accumulate leave so they aren't punished as harshly for missing 1 week per year.
