You reckon people who don't read their credit card statements are going to read notifications in game? - Ricky-Bobby [297109]

I took an issue with this a while back when there was an actual dead person still paying for subscription. But not that many seemed to care at the time.
Personally i think a subscribed service that is not used within the last subscribed period should be automatically canceled. But i suppose till that actually gets legislated, it will continue at it is. Milking the dead for example...

Someone with enough footprint (as in a non neglectable amount of users worldwide) would have to legislate something like that (like the US or EU) for it to actually change.
i have not put a single dollar in this game in a good 3 years i gave up trying.
Are they? I can tell you for a fact that my fathers debit card, in his name on his shared account with my mother remained active for at least after 6 months from his passing, with the bank notified about his death.
And more, it was being used by my mother...
Not to mention, in the non black and white world most ppl live in, when you are married or have children sometimes the user of the card is not necessarily the one with the name on it.
Again, using myself as an example, on one of our accounts we have a debit card linked with Mastercard that works everywhere in my name but on the other we have a debit card that is a VISA Electron that you cannot use on most places for online payments that is in my wife's name.
Because both accounts are in both of our names, we could in fact each have a card of each account, but, since we considered that throwing 60€ to the garbage, we decided 1 card per account would do, so my wife has subscriptions of services she uses associated with a card in my name, that would not in fact be deactivated in the event of her death.
But hey, care for the dead or not, should you really be charged for a service that you have not used once since your previous payment?
My opinion is that, you shouldn't...

But anyways, the subscription is not so much to make less hassle for the customer, but a way for the provider to have a concrete idea of their income, hence why it became so popular.
Most ppl go for it because it either there is no other option, the other option is far more expensive or there are extras in subscribing that other options do not have...
The no hassle part plays a very little part on it most of the times.
Don't think anyone i know would be ok knowingly paying for more than a year for a service they do not use. If you know any person like that, do let me know... We can chat and i can make up a few services for them to subscribe...
And yes, at this point, legally speaking the business can simply do nothing and all is fine.
Is it ethically questionable to charge someone for something they do not use? I would say yes, but again, at this point in time that is just my opinion.
It can always be many things...
I tend to take issue with situations i find injust or ethically questionable a lot, might be the Asperger getting the best of me. On the bright side, at least i'm not ranting here about the global warming.
@also as someone with over 1700 Steam games i am more than familiar with paying for something you Will likely never use. But i did it fully aware, and i doubt that in most cases here, regardless the back story, that is the case.
