Personally I'd say if you get caught with your pants down like that - cashing in on all the positive branch gains while not having any defense - the faction should be forced to fight that campaign entirely without them. It should be risk vs reward.
I went with 100 hours originally as it's a nice round number, but it does seem too low to really make this point. 168 hours (7 days) / 240 hours (10 days) does seem more reasonable in retrospect.
I think if you make it long i.e. 10 days, you'll just find that the defensive / offensive branches never get used except in the rare case of a large planned war. Maybe that's what you want, but I don't think any faction is going to decide to give up the good branches just so they can have 30% extra defense in case someone attacks them.
Also: "Stripping the upgrades from members immediately upon starting the reset process sounds good."
The idea of having specific warring versus training setups and needing to be organised and actually plan to flip between them was such a good one. It's not possible to go fully war and fully training at the same time, so immediately stripping specials when the unset process begins is just needless punishment for trying to prep for war or return to training, even if you allow a bit of both in your "regular" setup". I implore you not to do this.
It seems reasonable to assume the primary objective should be to incentivize legit-warring as much as possible. Maybe that's not the case?
Being able to instantly switch specials disincentivizes the attacker from attacking in the first place knowing they can't take advantage of the "surprise attack" aspect of their assault and catch them exposed with their pants down like Ched mentioned.
On the flip side, having to wait too long to be able to defend yourself properly with war specials disincentivizes putting up an effort to defend yourself. (Especially if you have members on training books)
I feel like ~4 days (roughly what we have now) is a pretty good balance, though I'd personally prefer closer to ~6 days given the amount of built-in time it takes to successfully assault a few walls. I also think locking the rosters upon sustaining a raid with a certain amount of respect lost per hour could be interesting.
You do realise how much this would benefit the larger respect factions stacked with multi-billion battle stat members?
"Peace-time" faction perks are crucial for the vast majority of the player base to develop.
Wasn't the racket introduction throwing enough of a meaty bone to the already strong/wealthy factions? The changes you are suggesting would be another deathknell for independent factions able to stake a piece of the map and to be able to hold their territories fairly and squarely.
I think what you are suggesting is absolutely ludicrous. Please reconsider.
Indeed a great point here also. Disproportionately negatively affecting smaller factions is a good way to ensure power is consolidated into smaller and smaller groups, which would be very unhealthy for the game.
Player who benefitted from years of rotating specials and who now trains with stat enhancers and who no longer requires drug/gym specials agrees with change to system that pulls the drawbridge up for the vast majority of the player base to take advantage of the system he benefitted from?
wow Ched really doesn’t want anyone to war.. took him years to finally unlock chaining, rankings no where in sight and now he wants to ensure no one changes their upgrades.
