The chat box often doesn't pop up when I click on the chat button on the profile page of any player.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
It's an annoying problem that this game has for months.

All devices: android mobille phone and windows 10 desktop computer.
Both running the latest versions of Google Chrome.

Yes. I noticed that sometimes also the "People" box (that appears when I click on the icon on the right of the "Note" icon) shows the loading animation permanently: sometime I solve this second issue by closing the box and reopening it.

Same happens now with some players (tried to x the chat to no avail). Not device specific.

Is there any solution for this issue?

I see this thread was actually a necro but it's happened twice to me this weekend, for me both times were as follows:

• Launched a chat with someone on my iPhone Xs and sent a message or multiple messages
• Went away from torn without touching the chat, not minimized or closed
• Tried to initiate new chat from Chrome inside torn, neither clicking the chat in recents, or from their profile would launch the chat window

Troubleshooting attempted:

• Tried initiating the chat from the recents, faction list, and user profile
• Logged out of torn and back in
• Closed browser and tried again
• Force closed app on phone and tried steps again

Resolution found:

If you create a new incognito Chrome window and log in, the chat box will automatically be open now to the user you were trying to reach. You must close the chat box in the incognito window and start a fresh chat from your normal tab. If you chat from incognito without closing the box you can message but you still will not see nor can you open a new chat box inside your normal instance of Chrome.

Im going to bump this because there seems to have been no update and the issue has gotten worse today.


This is issue with the app and PC not syncing correctly. Happens even if the app is completely closed/shut down on my phone. Sometimes the entire chat boxes will not load at all on the PC version and I have to reload my PC Browser or open the app on my phone and keep it open for the chat to continuously to work properly on my PC.

I use Firefox PC and a Samsung Android App.

Right now my chat has disappeared. Maybe extra logs can help figure out the issue. Happening all day.

Edit: Closing Phone App fixed issue. Was opened the entire time without issue in the background then suddenly chat boxes gone. Will try to keep Phone app closed to see if repeated without.

*UPDATE: Happening right now with all but one tab, phone app is closed. Will restart Browser to see if it fixes.*

*UPDATE 2: Refreshing, closing browers, doesn't fix, currently no chat tabs. Will open Phone App to see if fixes.*

*UPDATE 3: Opened Phone app and closed browser, reopened browser and tabs where now there.*


I predict this cycle continues.

Also having chat issues. I get the connecting to server in the Chatton if I go to post, and periodically get bounced back to chat windows from this past weekend.

Seemed fine for a whole, but this past weekend has been bad. Bunch of lost comms.

Lost chat windows again, so another bump/update.

Update 2: My phone was dead/off and I lost my chats again. I had to power my phone back on, load the app, then crash the app for the Chat Boxes on PC to reappear (only after I crashed FireFox too but without the Phone App Closed they wouldnt load the chats still.)

This happens when logged into Mobile AND P.C. browser at the same time.

Step 1: Open a chat via mobile and 'lock' your device.
Step 2: Now try to open that person's chat on PC it will not open.
Step 3: Close their 'recent chat' or unlock your mobile device and close the chat manually there.


My mobile device it not working at the moment or I would provide screenshots but that should replicate the issue.

No offense but it's a cop-out to try and say everyone complaining is having connection issues. What exactly do you mean by 'connection'? Your PC connection or your Mobile connection or both, Connection to the Chat Cloud, Connection to Torn Servers itself? Could you elaborate?

Because if one device is off then obviously there is no connection to that device. Burt regardless I can have my Mobile and PC on the same WIFI and replicate this issue. Obviously not everyone reporting this issue is on the same type of connection.

This sounds like it could be more of an issue with the connection to chat cloud servers than actual individual connection to torn. If it is individual connections why does Torn Chats (Or server chats) have more issues than WarZone on the exact same connection?

The whole issue is puzzling when the explanation is 'your connection'.

By your steps both mobile device and PC browser will receive the chat box at the same time unless other device have "connection issues"

Right but it is illogical for you to expect someone to have both devices connected at the same time at all times. If my mobile devices is being used, borrowed, or is completely off then I have literally no way of fixing that connection.

What is your definition of a 'connection issue'?

Because by my steps all I have to do it lock my phone and that ends the connection and that fits your 'connection issue' explanation but does not resolve the issue. If I give my phone to my wife, daughter, or son to use then I am essentially locked out of messages from that person until I can able to get my phone back.

I understand this maybe out of your control with the current system. I am just trying to understand the prevention method.

I've never had this issue going from open PC Chats to Mobile. Only when trying to open PC chats after they have been opened in mobile. Not sure if that provide anything.

Edit: For now I will just keep using the close recent chats as a work around.
