Laptop Upgrades

Hello- I'm enjoying my time here at torn (great work admin team) and would like to make a suggestion:

Upgrade the Laptop for more access. Either purchase programs to load like the casino app, the trade app, etc. much in the style of upgrading one's PI.

Option: instead of purchasing, learning to code in the comp sci edu and then have programing take x days depending on the complexity.

I know, it means laptops go from being a generic item to a fancy one with a whole bunch of slots, but I believe the PI framework could be a great blueprint. Thanks for listening!




edit: This also could increase Player engagement as some folks would jump on a two hour flight and then go play a different game on their phone, whereas having accessibility to almost all of torn would keep eyes on the screen.


It also could be a way to diversify economic growth having more components/programs to purchase, and further player interest by offering new economic goals.

Add in a 10% chance of "woops you forgot to charge the batteries" so the laptop is dead during the flight, just as a way to balance it since flying is supposed to suck.

Upgrade your gear and skillset enough to hack into faction vaults

How can anyone take this seriously after all the crap in the title.

Look like a child has wondered over it with a crayon.

Ive always wanted to play poker while i flew but the only side is how to prevent people from abusing this idea and sitting inside a room to travel around and not get say mugged which is a big part of the game it brings the real dirty torn experience out you can never be too careful i shall still upvote but think about how it could be abused and ways to prevent i can think of a couple others aswell but shall not disclose

I'm not a fan of these types of suggestions. If you want to gamble or whatever, just do that.

If you let people fly while doing all this stuff you will just flood the market and ruin flying for the people that actually want to do. Risk of being mugged is also a balancing mechanic for many activities and flying disrupts that.

Also ive always viewed flying as something for when you cant be on torn and want to get some benefit. If you are here and want to do other stuff then just do those things. I think people get stuck flying for money because its fail-proof and easy, but it's bottom their income. If you stayed in torn and put even a small amount of effort into making money you would beat the ~300k per hour flying.

I would give this +10 as I sit here flying bored out of my mind reading forum posts wishing I could be back in Torn already.

I would love this. flying and playing poker to pass the time, and the casino gets more revenue from flyers. also if you make all your money from poker you are stuck in Torn. It would also add a bit more realism to the game, like if you are saying that TornCity is a real place make online gambling a thing

I will R+ because the laptop DOES need improvements. However, there is a fundamental issue in the idea as proposed right now. Like many things in this game, flying is balanced by the cons. And the biggest one is that you trade a stable and solid source of income at the cost of time spent during which you cannot train, engage in crimes, work with trades/the marketplace, play casino, etc. Basically the only "active" part of the game that remains during flight is forums/viewing player profiles/chats (which do not generally affect your account in terms of player growth) and stocks.

Accessing some of these plugins that you are mentioning in flight would ruin the game balance. You could

• play a poker or casino games, but are now non-muggable
• play RR but not go to hospital if you lose
• trade with hundreds of people, but are now non-muggable
• etc

Basically you are removing the cons of flying, such that you could get modules to do most things aside from fighting.

What I would be down for is some non-account progression changes. Things like

• view company profiles/job postings
• apply to companies
• view faction profiles
• apply to faction

Or even more active things like in-flight poker (play with free chips, not worth torn currency).

Basically activities that would not affect your account whether you apply now or in 7 hours should be added to the laptop. I cannot see clear reasons why these are not included by default. Everything else sounds nice in theory, but it would make Torn city a ghost town.

Perhaps you shouldn’t play the PvP games but the PvE would be alright, minus spin the wheel

Even if u dont wanna add things which can help us make money at least enable things which might keep a user engaged. I don't know why we can't look at companies and factions while flying. It might help pass some time looking at what factions are offering and help get more competitive.

Bump how bout we play this fancy new game called torn.com on the laptop? would be nice on those boring flights.

Edit : I think, the casino bit should be just the PVE ones.

I didn't see anyone write this here.. but didn't Ched himself say that he wants to totally remove laptops and bring back the sidebar when travelling?
