So a few days ago I started a thread where I shared with players that I listed an expensive item for my level at a 10th of the price. I omitted a zero. My intention was to list the item somewhat cheaper to get quick liquidity so the red warning did come up but it was not that clear that I omitted a zero as well. Before I could correct my listing it was gone. I asked the guy who bought it to please just help me correct the error. He was a lvl 99 player with a net worth in the billions so he didn't make a massive gain at all. He does one crime and earns so much more. He didn't care much for the game time it took me to get that item. So I took a huge loss. I shared the story on the forums for the kick it would give some people and hoping that maybe someone would just help me get back to where I was. I also stated that that was a real dick move on the other player's part.

People responded very positively and I had to update my post to say wait I've been helped. But some people continued to send me stuff anyways. It wasn't a scam. But some people were no seemingly jealous of the assistance I got.

Later on the discussion turned and I made the point that in a perfect world such errors would not happen and that the system can be improved as to further prevent this from happening and that the developers of Torn do not intend for this to happen. The evidence being the fact that they have a validation in place. Nobody in the world likes wrong input. It irks you when autocorrect gives the wrong word does it not?

So I attempted to explain that in the gameplay of Torn there are limits as to how much damage can be done to a player. There are rules. An input error, especially for a low level player that can't yet travel, can cause unreasonable damage. We all make input errors and there is no need to get punched in the face for it. I asked that players just be considerate and not burn each other for this. There are many other ways to cause hurt.

And people went ape shit at this statement. I was accused of not owning up to my mistake and its another player's right to own you for it and I'm blaming my mistake on the system and they argued that the developers intended for this to be a part of the game. They completely missed the point I was trying to make and some guys only posted to provoke an argument. Eventually I also lost my cool. So for my part I apologize for that.

But my request that people not act like dicks and be considerate in this case was seemingly totally out of line. I'm now being "taught a lesson" by these guys that don't agree. The only lesson I learned was that you can't make a reasonable argument without some players taking huge offense. This is not a fun aspect of Torn and it does take away from the experience of the game. If you disagree with something then fine. No need to be messed up about it.

I don't have much more to say on the matter but it is worth thinking about.

I kinda agree, but the bottom line is that it is human input that is sending you to hospital. Some people decided they wanted to attack you, and that's all. It wont last forever, and now you can travel. So when you don't have anything else on, before you log out, go on a nice long trip?
There will always be a few dicks around, but ppl do get pissed off with stuff like this. That's Human Nature!

Good luck, and happy hunting Bud.

Who knew that ignoring a red warning about your pricing would actually be a bad idea. Stfu and deal with it. You f**ked up. No one else.

Torn is no different to the real world when it comes to people taking advantage of other people's mistakes.

Grow the f**k up

Ironic that if this post had mentioned who had bought off that item at lower price, then u would a saint and everyone would send u stuff and judge how cruel the other guy is, otherwise people just tell u to f**k off

The best thing about the internet is being connected to interesting people around the world.

The worse thing about the interest is being connected to crying children around the world.

Dude I stated my case and I apologized for losing my cool. People can tell me to f**k off that's fine. Not wrong of me to correct things for my part

This happened a while ago, and its definitely over.

I dont quite understand WHY you really had to make a follow up thread on it.
You list something to resell on Ebay or Amazon, THEY ARE NOT gonna reimburse or correct you because of your incompetency and you do lose your cash.
You make a careless mistake, irl or in game, its better to lick your wound , learn and move on.

Bitching it on the General forums, in the most public way possible , Doesn't make sense. IT IS A CRIME GAME.
Dont expect sympathy, and you really need to watch the tone, text wise.

Not just you bro, every day, a noob is making a cringy moan thread and its irritating..

Just move on dude. End of story. You did a mistake, you lost some cash. Chill.
PS. No ones gonna send you sympathy money.

Imagine selling a DB for 40m instead of 40b...
It's part of the game. You should never rush any financial decisions and always double check.
JayD01 [2585795]
No for sure. I completely understand this. But everyone is guilty of this at one time or another it's not a unique situation.

I was just seemingly naive to expect a certain level of courtesy. I was attempting to bring about something positive for many players. That is all.
Vivien_Yap [2433359]
i get the first thread but why the second one? there really doesn't seem to be a point anymore. if you want to correct ppl just reply on the first thread, where most ppl would see anw

Best advise I could give you, is just lay low, STFU, and let it pass. Posting about it and commenting continually is just going to make it all worse. Then what are you going to do? Make more posts? It'll be a downward shit spiral. What you do after this will define whether you are a serious player or just a shitposter.

Have you got it out of your system, or is all this your application to TRT?

The Torn community is beautifully toxic. You have been here long enough to see that.
Fishbum [2009144]
The community expects a certain level of courtesy for stupid people who make stupid mistakes to shut up and learn from them. You refuse to extend this courtesy, so the community responds. You DO NOT understand your stupidity or you would have shut up by now. Take the advice given and stop responding. Stop making threads. Try to actually learn from your mistakes.
