Its a real rarity that I make a thread but I'd like to see how other directors feel about the investment they are sitting on and the return they are getting.
I'm just looking for real talk, if you aren't or haven't been an owner of a tv station please don't bother posting.

thanks,
e

If you don't want the general population to respond then is probably better to post in company discussion rather than general discussion

Maybe if you elaborated on your thoughts, on what returns you are seeing from what investment you might get more inclined to respond.

Asking others not to reply in gd isn't a good idea either.

P.S.

f**k you dude

Posting cause you told me not to.
Speaking of TV company income - I've never run a TV Company, but I run The Best TV Company. TBTVC is hiring, (take a look) good stats needed, low pay, must be active and rehab regularly :) Ty!

I think we should scrap companies as a concept and have players need to commit crimes to earn a living. Too many non criminals in this crime game
Hamr [2027992]
Supposedly Crimes 2.0 is going to facilitate that, but it's been in development hell for 7 years and might not even exist lmao

On the plus side:
1.) The 10-star TV station is one of the best company specials in the game. Every 35 days (on average) a player in a 10-star TV network accumulates +0.5 racing skill, +300 non-timegated energy, a quarter-SE, and several other less valuable-but-still-worthwhile rewards. These specials alone should make anyone working in a 10-star TV network be willing to take pay of less than $1.5m/day so the director can put more money toward advertising to maintain the 10-star rating... but alas... they often don't.

2.) The TV daily revenue (5% of which is added to the sell-back value) is quite a strong long-term networth building tool. Directors bringing in $80m/day in revenue add about $125,000,000 a month in unrealized cash to the sellback value of their company, often without realizing it.

3.) Having an infinite 100% safe store for cash as a director for the cost of a mere ~$1.4b (SYS benefit) is hilariously overpowered. (SYS should arguably have dividend tiers that protect increments of cash to avoid incentivizing the "carebear" playstyle Ched mentioned a few months back)

On the negative side:

1.) The TV network still doesn't have a 7 star special after what, a decade?

2.) Directing / Employees working in a TV network that isn't 10-star is brutal. The spy income is underwhelming.

3.) The workstat requirements are quite high.

4.) The TV network, in particular, is quite prone to whenever the next high-intel-stat company comes out. The industry never really recovered from the disruptive impact the lucrative Logistics industry had on the high-intel-stat employee pool. If something like an Architecture firm is released that requires 5-6 players +250k intel, and the Architecture firm has cool job specials, RIP TV industry.

TV Network income was good up until the release of Logistics. At which point it then meant you could make near comparable income from 1/5th the investment.

The solution isn't nerfing all Logistics though. It'd be in buffing up the TV network (either via the specials or wealth) to make it competitive again.

The 1, 3 and 7 star specials are useless. If buffing wealth of TV networks isn't palatable then making those useful is a good solution. Imagine if TV was something like like bounty protection but worked as additional respect gain. Maybe something like 50 or 100 job points in exchange for 5-10% more respect gain over the next 2-3 days?

Any specials for the TV should all be active ones (not passives) and give more variety in ways to spend the job points.

TV income is great

but the ever increasing ad budget to keep and remain 10* and the high wages, decrease the profit in a lot of situations I imagine, decrease profit enough to where many directors do question whether the investment dollar is worth the return. I know many said screw it and just took in the extra profit and let the company remain at 7-9*. But that sucks for job perks, so the only perk for employees at that point is high pay.

I think it’s gonna be up to each individual director on whether they care more for the 10* perks or the profits.

in most cases, long time directors have already likely earned profit to cover the company investment cost and it’s all profit anyway for them- so they may not care as much for profit and do whatever they can do to keep 10*, ie pushing up ad budget. And they can bc they may not worry as much about the daily profit. As a tv director you have to go up against others who may have different values and goals and purposes for their own comp, so it can be hard to compete and maintain 10* if your own goal is to get higher ROI.

I haven’t been in TV for maybe a year or so, but I still imagine most would net a full ROI in 12-18 months, meaning earning profit to match their buy in cost and upgrades if applicable. It’s long…. But in the ol grand scheme big picture thing, it’s not that bad.

If company owners feel like their income is underpowered, maybe that's their own fault...

Maybe it's because their product pricing is incorrect... maybe they hired shitty employees... or they're caving in to every potential employee trying to play Hungry Hungry Hippos with them...

TV is okay but I'd be thrilled to get worthwhile 1, 3, and 7 star specials.

- Something completely new and unique, even if not financially valuable would be fine.

- Anything that people would actually use sometimes.

APOLLO has a point, posting this in another topic, like Company discussion, would be a good idea. Plus the more people comment the more times your thread is on top and easier to see.
