As per the new article, it is in Washington DC this year. That happens to be my back yard. So I wanted to give a few notes to those who do not know how to get here or some details. People can feel free to pm me questions if they have any.
First: travel
three airports serve the area. Dulles, National, and BWI. National you s the closest and probably easiest in terms of using public transportation. Dulles is the second closest but is actually in Virginia. It is close to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum annex (where they keep the really big exhibits like a space shuttle). So for those who intended to rent a car or want to see that, decent option. BWI (Baltimore Washington International) is the farthest and is just south of Baltimore MD proper. Not very convenient to get to DC but can be cheaper to fly into. It is located very close to the Amtrak/MARC train station. So it is like 45 minute train ride into the central train station in DC that puts you right onto the “Red Line” of the DC subway (which everyone here calls “the metro”.
second: sights
There is a LOT to see in DC. Many friends who visit set aside an “extra day”to “see the Smithsonian”. Much like how most Europeans can’t really grasp how vast the US is, even most in the US can’t grasp how big the Smithsonian is. The Smithsonian is actually like 20 different museums and the National Zoo. Spread out all over the city is like at least a half a day to see each one. While many of the museums are on the mall, not all are ( like the air and space extension out in Virginia near the airport). So you need to do a little research in advance.
third: Me
i live in Maryland wine country. If there was interest I could look into setting something up tour wise. No idea if there is time.
look forward ti seeing people.
