Attacking experience.... we know leaving gives highest exp... but how do you pick a target to earn more exp per attack?

Is it based on relative level?... attack a higher level target?
Or is it based on respect?... attack a higher stat target?
Or something else?

No its only based on their level.

*Corrected below*
If I rememebr correctly
Leave gives 100% rep 100% exp
Hopsitalise gives 100% rep 75% exp
Mug gives 75% rep 100% exp.

I havent seen these numbers mentioned in forever so they could be incorrect or im mixing something up.

from wiki:
  • Attacking and leaving (see this as 100% XP gain) another player on the street. A higher leveled victim will yield more experience.
  • Mugging another player. Gives less experience (gives 55-60% XP, in comparison to leaving) than simply leaving.
  • Hospitalizing another player. Gives less experience (gives 40% XP, also in comparison to leaving) than mugging.
  • didn't find the exact numbers for respect though.

thanks for the answers. I thought I had read that it was level based in the wiki before but couldn't find it again.

one other thing that I am wondering is:

does relative battle stats play a role in experienced gained in an attack?
or is relative battle stats only for calculating respect?

do we have anything confirming this?

Technically, respect is based on level and stats.

Base respect is determined by targets level, then there is a fair fight multiplier added to the base respect depending on how close your stats are to the targets.

Opponent stats isn't important in determining the exp for levelling, that's why guides teach you to attack low-stat but high-level targets when doing early game levelling (which is also the reason why it's a bad reason to increase your level too fast without building stats first). All in all, you generally shouldn't worry about levelling too much since you'll naturally get exp by doing chains/rws. Generally the only reason for you to level up is to get merits and rank triggers for your title, as well as increasing your Life.

Respect is based on opponent level (which gives the base respect) and their stat difference from you (which determines the fair fight bonus which goes up to x3). This means fighting a level 75 player with 1b stats fighting a level 100 with sub 200m stats wont get much respect as opposed to fighting a level 50 with 1b stats.
