Yes the solution does not involve new hardware. It involves
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]aurel1[/background] spending 30 seconds to revert this wholly spaghetti code induced lag.
For some reason those 30 seconds of dedicated time are not coming. Whether thats some bureaucratic nightmare where tickets are being ignored, or mismanagement I dont know. It is telling though when a
HUGE aspect of the game (attacking) has been left for over a year now in a non-performant state.
How do I know? because i've already been through this whole song and dance.
[image: gyazo.com]If aurel1 doesn't know what changes they made, simply checking whatever versioning exists for what changes were made on 18/08/21. Thats the last time we spoke and modifications were done on the fly (because you know torn dev in prod) and everything was snappy and performant as one would expect whilst also keeping the 1s attack turns.
The whole reason
WHY we have these poor performance attacks is because theres some stupid spaghetti code transaction locks aimed at preventing people getting mugged into negatives. The problem though is that this change doesn't fix the problem. Instead it makes the problem worse, because it forces a bunch of people to bottleneck their attacks into the very same second, making the racing condition even worse.
The problem as it stands is one of trade-offs. As developers it should be pretty easy to write some code which informs you of how many people per day are mugged into negatives. (the racing condition) From this you make a qualitative assessment on whether degrading the entirety of attacks (as it is now) is worth it for the 0.00000001% of attacks which result in negative on hand balance. My position is that it isnt worth it. (bonus points, as a result of doing this you can gauge the effectiveness of your transaction locks, which im reasonably confident you are in the complete dark about).
I appreciate that entirety of torn developers do not actively play nor care for the plight of regular players but really I feel we can do better than this.
Torn city performed better in 2008 than it does now in 2022. I don't think thats a good position to be in.
It really sucks that
YOU CAN and
SHOULD fix this but when asking torn development team to make those 30 seconds of changes over the span of this
1+ YEAR bug, the response from YOU and others is
