Instead of just having levels, why not have something that adjusts your play style that can't be switched between easily.

Obviously just spitballing.

Torns landing page advertises "picking your path" which to an extent is true. But I would argue once you hit 100 its when the game really opens up, and rather than adding more levels or prestige, perhaps you just add alternative playstyles and pathways that provide both advantages and disadvantages.

For instance, once every 'set time' you can change your 'mastery'.

Each mastery has to be unlocked before you can use it by completing missions for Duke / Leslie or maybe even Ched himself.

Once mastery is active, it can debuff/buff your stats in a particular area for a month.

The Gainer - +3% to all gains while training, however, your damage output is lowered by 5%.
The Warrior - +5% to all stats and +10% to health while active, but training is lowered by 10%.
The Business Man - 10% chance of losing 0 money when being mugged. Company effectiveness increased by 20%. Stats reduced by 10% and training reduced by 5%.
The Traveller - Double travel capacity, and can travel between two cities while abroad before turning back to Torn.

So once you've hit 100, you've had a taste of most aspects of Torn, but now you're in a position to 'buff' the part of Torn you enjoy the most.

Before I reached lvl 100, I used levels as a kind of loose proxy for 'how difficult is this player to beat' Sure it was inexact, but it kind of worked. Once a player joins the group at 100, they're mixed in with some ridiculously strong opponents. Unless you're familiar with this otherwise amorphous blob of players by name (I can remember maybe 10 of you) there's a high chance you'll encounter an impossible fight by judging on level alone. That leaves external helper tools to fill the gap as all but a necessity.

On the assumption that stronger players can level faster, sooner, it would make judging a players difficulty based on level slightly more useful again if the cap were raised, while removing some of the the reliance on external tools. Of course the incentives for increasing your level again (more than just bragging rights) would need to be there, as if they're not, there'd be a strong case for level holding.

Xanax and Stat enhancers will cover most needs, probably energy cans as well down the road. If you're ever uncertain due to non druggies etc. you can check crimes and refills as well which show activity level and is a good way to judge how active a player has been.

Between those an overall gauge is pretty easy. The bigger struggle is knowing what stat people are whoring, just gotta spy for that.

I think it's probably about time to raise the level cap now that a third or so of active players are lvl 100.

Personally I'd like to see levels above 100 be mission based, rather than based on exp (which would make a lot of players hit the new cap instantly).

The missions wouldn't necessarily be very hard, but they should be very extensive, kind of like the old ivory walking cane mission but much larger.

Each mission could give a minor perk and a level, and ideally there should be a cooldown between them to make sure the new cap wasn't reached instantly.

I think 100 is a nice number to stop at and if in the future the level goes up Torn would have to redo the complete battle system because health will be going up like crazy. Make it a bit hard to get the level based on exp and battle stats meaning not anyone like NurseRenay can fight their way there but you'd have to do a lot more to get there. But personally i think it should be held for a while since there are many that want to achieve 100 and feel they belong in the top catagory and have achieved something once you raise that goal you make the grind way harder for the newer players and the older ones are already there. Look at BodyBagger he has been number one for forever he decided to give others his place cause everyone deserves a chance at the spotlight cause he can easily SE his way to number one and retain that spot for another 10 years but everyone deserves a chance to the thrown and he chose to do that. We need more competitive gameplay that make battle stats less of an advantage and activity more of an advantage hence ched introduced ranked warring next would be something being able to reduce top players to a fair fight mode something in the way of capping players stats for some kind of war and making temps and way of fighting a thing to strategies giving others a better advantage with less monster stats.

Edit: introduce fighting styles? Maybe shooting styles?

I think level 100 is fine.

I wouldnt object if there are higher levels but i think its fine at level 100. 100%

If there was no level cap no doubt there would be a rat race to get higher. I have always levelled naturally and im fine with level 100 being it.

There is no need for anymore.

But like as said above, soon nearly all active players will be level 100. What's the point in levels then?
RAPY [2111189]
At least do it to 200. BodyBagger has already surpassed 150, so then he has something to work for again as well.

Levels are something to gain up to level 100. You know you are a winner when you reach level 100. That is all there needs to be.

There maybe could be some update which would reward level 100s with little perks i think that would be good something else to unlock once level 100 is reached.

I dont think there should be higher levels though.
Mix [21666]
So when 90%+ of active players are level 100, what are newbies meant to do? What's the point in starting a game when everyone has already won.
daprinceomar [2125322]
Well there are ALOT of people like me who are level 100 but level holding still. so i wonder what the "real" number of players have enough exp to lvl 100. Can the mods pull that number up?

my guess it would be closer to 4-5000 players.

the only problem with increasing the lvl cap is that lvl effects a few things. One being the amount of exp. you gain from beating someone, Two being the base amount of health that you have. But possible the most important thing is the Base amount respect that you would give out. With the current formula BR=(Ln(x) + 1.0)/4.0, where x= the lvl, at lvl 100 the base amount is 1.4. But if you were to increase lvl cap to 1000 it would only increase the base amount to 1.98.
